7 Cups Leadership Guidelines

Last post
Sunday
...See more Thank you for being a leader on 7 Cups! Community leaders are a significant part of our community. In stepping into a leadership role with 7 Cups, you have agreed that you align with our values and wish to uphold our mission. You have the ability to inform and influence our community members. So, it is important to lead by example and be a role model to inspire others to aspire to be someone like you to extend the support to others. In addition to the community guidelines, rules, and policies [https://www.7cups.com/about/communityGuidelines.php] currently in place, we are including a list of reminders, as well as one new rule. āž” As a community leader, you may be provided with confidential information to perform your work on a team or a project. Use this knowledge for its intended purpose only. In other words, please do not abuse your privileges. We trust you to be responsible and maintain confidentiality. āž”. Refrain from engaging in triangulation. This is a very common mistake people make without even realizing it's happening. Triangulation manifests itself in our community as one person who will not communicate directly with another person, and instead use a third person to relay communication to the second, thus forming a triangle. Triangulation is damaging because it interferes with healthy conflict-resolution and lends itself to rumor spreading by taking a private situation between two users and exposing it to more people. Read more about this and take the Triangulation Pledge. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerCommunityampSiteUpdates_38/LaurasOffice_169/WhatisTriangulation3StepstoAvoidingStoppingitfromhappeninginthecommunity_35107/1/] āž”. Community leaders must maintain strong boundaries. Being a role model, and a trustworthy and reliable leader, users may become dependent on you. To nurture healthy relationships with the community, it's imperative that you set boundaries for yourself and respect those of others. āž”. Community leaders accept feedback gracefully. Getting feedback can be hard to hear, especially if it's more of a constructive criticism than a praise. Leaders should be able to accept feedback gracefully if given constructively. We all are human and all have things to work on and grow. āž” Please honor and follow our social media policies (i.e. no off-site contact with community members). 7 Cups is a safe environment for you to build and create connections. We love that you are building supportive relationships with each other and enjoy connecting! In order to preserve this safe space, we ask you not to solicit off-site contact. Also bear in mind, once you take interactions off 7 Cups, we are unable to assist you in the event something happens outside of our site. āž” Reporting is our responsibility. You are the eyes of our community. We have several ways to report incidents that cover all areas of the site, and we rely on you to direct users to those channels. We also rely on you to use them as well. As the slogan goes: if you see something, say something. āž” We respect your right to use whatever sites you'd like. However, since we launched, we have discovered that some of our leaders have also been working with non-crisis sites that are similar to 7 Cups. We are all for competition, but we want the intention behind it to be solving broader emotional health challenges. We don't want the competition to be a negative interaction between companies. To protect our community and its ongoing progress, we ask that if you would like to pursue leadership with us that you do not affiliate yourself in leadership positions with non-crisis sites similar to 7 Cups. (When I say similar sites, I am referring to any site that offers the same services as us. This would not include therapists, AA, NAMI, and assistance programs that share our broad goal to provide support in the healthcare industry but are not set up to operate like we do. They all offer different components that work in tandem with us.) Leaders: please reply below if you have read and understood these rules! If you have any questions, you may PM anyone on the community team (@Hope, @ASilentObserver, myself).

...See more Hi everyone! I hope you are well. As you know lately we have been making efforts to familiarise our users with our sub-communities. We had some success with sub-community workshops [https://www.7cups.com/forum/CommunityProjectsEvents_184/SubcommunityWorkshops_2163/SignuptoleadSubcommunityworkshops_231973/] but we also want to do the training on a larger scale. It does not take a lot to understand the basics of sub-communities. By the end of doing the activities/steps in this post, you should be ready to explore sub-communities on your own. Anyone who completes all of the following steps and lets us know in this thread will get the explorer badge. Step 1: Watch this video [https://youtu.be/FZPoqwyikXg] Step 2: Complete this Quiz [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScZX9mReUYVombXPAliiv7_NI0aHDw33JGcVVP7av74WZzoyw/viewform] Step 3: Post here and let us know that you did step 1 and 2 and what you learned/liked about the video/quiz. Thank you to @Tazzie for creating the video and the quiz. Once you have received the explorer badge, you become eligible to take part in the Building Community Program. Anonymous Evaluations Team Initiative

...See more Hi All! I wanted to post each announcement under a category called Announcements, but it would've gotten too messy with everyone replying to each announcement in the same thread, so I will be making them all separately. Secret Shoppers are a popular quality tool that businesses often use. They go into the store, and then they buy items while evaluating the service. Once upon a time back in 2016, 7cups had an Anonymous Evaluations Team that would evaluate listeners to identify which could use some training (not because they were "bad", but they were new and inexperienced), and which people were here for reasons that don't fit with the site's mission. We've been wanting to restart it for many years, but due to various reasons, were unable to. Quality Track leadership team and I are proud to say we will be restarting this initiative. We may call it Secret Shoppers instead as more people know what that is, but the name is flexible. It will restart once we get all the pieces in place. I've created a draft of what I'd like to do. The basic run down this: 1. We will make it part of the Quality Track projects, so those who apply for Quality Mentor/Teen Quality Star and are accepted can sign up to join. They will have to do a certain amount per week for this project to be effective. 1. Team member reaches out to a non-verified listener via personal request and does a pretend chat of medium dificulty based on a topic from their profile. It would last about 20 minutes. 2. They would evaluate based on criteria such as did they respond, empathy, professonalism, giving advice, etc. Those that are here for the wrong reasons would get reported to admin. Those that are just inexperienced, but genuine, would be informed they were evaluated. 3. The listener would be paired with a quality mentor to do skill building. Here's where I am getting stuck, and I need your help as a community. I am not sure how to best relay the evaluation infomation in a non-punitive way. I feel like a email might be too cold, but I also know receiving feedback that you need to improve can be difficult and hurt. I want there to be a way to balance compassionate feedback with the reality that every listener (including myself) has areas they can improve in to be more effective as a listener. We're all growing and that's okay. It doesn't make us a "bad" listener. All feedback is appreciated, and if you have other ideas you think might be good for this, please feel free to share! That being said, please keep in mind three things: 1. I am new. I've been here less than week in an admin role, so I'm still learning. This won't be perfect right off the bat. It's a draft, and it can be tweaked and changed. I am putting it out to the community because I think communication and transparency goes a long way, and I want this to be something that works. More brains means more ideas that I might not have thought of. We'll start the project once we have all the pieces in place. 2. Please try to keep any negative feedback constructive. I have noticed some forum posts receive feedback that looks like "That's a stupid idea", and that is not very helpful feedback. I'm doing my best to learn the ropes and plan ideas that will benefit the community openly and transparently. Tactful constructive criticism is always more valuable. If you post a criticism, please also add a solution that you think might work better. 3. I may not be able to use all the feedback received. It just depends on what fits together. I still appreciate all of it and may be able to incorporate an idea in the future. Thank you for your time everyone, and i look forward from hearing from you! Edit: A lot of great ideas have been brought up! A good point that was brought up is what kind of reward could we give for doing a good job. The idea of a Verified Listener badge (if they meet criteria) or leaving a review as a "reward" is intriguing. Please let me know if you think of any ideas for that.

...See more Hi everyone, As you all know, the Quality Team is working hard to make key changes to improve grading, processing time, etc. (Click here for the details [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/EvelynesQualityGazebo_2101/ActiveListeningTestUpdate_278179/]) I am excited to share with you that all the major changes are complete! The minor changes are still in progress, but we invite you to check out the restructured tests and share your input. Before you start taking them, however, please note: * If you already completed the AL Tests, you may not need to retake them. But if you didnā€™t complete any, please do take them and share your experiences with us. Here are all the Active Listening Tests Forms for easy access! * Active Listening: The Basics [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1wG5popRr-lrfhUc8AoZh-QTMR5QM0Flp3bJlkVROZr8/viewform] * Active Listening: Questions [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Soxc6LUlaD95FEVzYm68iD58SprAw3ypmMeDsZ5qS30/viewform] * Active Listening: In-Depth [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10I-zOYhAOP8kzPEL9mJG8fqcjusGDOfN_sdctFkvrNI/viewform] * Active Listening: Refresh & Self-Care [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iQij6bcTDa4qoAZVOZaBukkDptqKm3sfXTu2ucN6ToQ/viewform] * Please know that ALs are an opportunity to learn and test your own knowledge and understanding of active listening skills. They are the stepping stones to high-level listening. (We also recommend taking them in the sequence in which theyā€™re presented as AL 1,2,3 and finally 4. * If you didnā€™t clear the quiz on the first attempt, do not worry. Our Feedback Team will reach out to you and share feedback and resources that you may utilize. When you feel more equipped, we encourage you to retake the quiz. * If you feel unsure and like you could use some more resources to prepare before attempting a quiz, please either contact any mentor from this page [https://www.7cups.com/listener/listenerMentors.php], request a Listener Coach [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1oeZA5FmCGw4UeV6Yjmv0ZCurow72WzqpbaRd1F0klkA/viewform], or reach out to Listener Support Room [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php]. We are here to help you out and make sure you succeed. * All the tests will be graded and processed within 3-5 business days. If in case you need to follow up on the outcome of the test or you didnā€™t hear back within the 3-5 business days period, please reach out to either Jenna [http://7cups.com/@Jenna], Mel [http://7cups.com/@Mel], or EvelyneRose [http://7cups.com/@EvelyneRose](Quality Admin) A few helpful tips to ace the quiz! 1. Please read the questions & description of each question carefully before answering. It will help you frame your responses better. Be aware that some questions have parts (A) and (B). Be careful to notice when it says "MEMBER" and when it says "LISTENER". Ensure you frame your responses accordingly. Answers that only respond to half of the question will get half a point. 2. Please use your own words to write out each reply. Spelling and grammar will be secondary as we understand English is a secondary language for many of us. Responses will be monitored for content. Be aware that some questions need responses within 3-5 sentences. 3. Please review and confirm your responses before submission. It will ensure that you covered everything. You can save your answers in a word document so that if you need to make changes and try again you will have your previous answers to reflect on and make changes to. 4. Bookmark/ Save the updates thread to stay tuned with the latest developments:: * AL-1 Updates Thread: https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/ActiveListeningTests_2102/ActiveListening1Updates_15446/ [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/ActiveListeningTests_2102/ActiveListening1Updates_15446/] * AL-2 Updates Thread: https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/ActiveListeningTests_2102/ActiveListening2Updates_5878/ * AL-3 Updates Thread: https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/ActiveListeningTests_2102/ActiveListening3AL3Updates_38316/ * AL-4 Updates Thread: https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/QualityProjects_144/ActiveListening4AL4Updates_38318/ 5. Some of the situations in these quizzes may be harder to read and triggering for some listeners, so please keep this in mind and seek peer support whenever you need it. We look forward to hearing from you. We will use your feedback to continue to iterate on this process. Thank you for your dedication to listening! ------------------------- P.S.: * All texts in blue color are hyperlinked and clickable. * All AL Team Graders, please contact either Evelyne, Mel, or Jenna to get access to the new AL Team Dashboard. * A big thanks to Jenna, Evelyne, Mel & Harsvin for their help and efforts. Anonymous Evaluations Team FAQ
by EvelyneRose
Last post
June 7th, 2022
...See more Hi Everyone! There's been a lot of questions about Anonymous Evaluations Team. We'd like to clear some of those up. We wanted to compile this list of questions weā€™ve received about the Anonymous Evaluations Project [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/EvelynesQualityGazebo_2101/AnonymousEvaluationsTeamUpdate_229497/] in an effort to bring more clarity to the community as to what our team is for, what weā€™re doing, and how this may impact you as part of the 7 Cups community. What is the purpose of the Anonymous Evaluations Project? The Anonymous Evaluations Project aims to focus on overall safety and listener quality across 7 Cups. Evaluators are checking in on listeners to see how theyā€™re doing in terms of their active listening skills, as well as attempting to report and remove any potentially harmful accounts to ensure that members are as safe as possible while seeking support. We will take the data we gather and use it to increase listener quality through education. How do the anonymous evaluations work? Evaluators will use anonymous member accounts, provided to them and monitored by admin for safety and anonymity, to contact listeners by way of General Requests and Personal Requests. The manner in which a listener is contacted is up to the evaluatorā€™s preference. Evaluators complete a form after each chat noting down different items theyā€™re trained to look for within their chats. Will I know when Iā€™m being evaluated? No. The purpose of these evaluations is to be anonymous and see you listening naturally without any pressure from completing a mock chat from a mentor or verifier. These chats will appear as any other member chat would. Who can be evaluated? Anyone. All listeners, regardless of if theyā€™ve been on the site one day or if theyā€™ve been here from the beginning, if theyā€™re verified or not, or are in leadership positions or not, are able to be evaluated. What are the anonymous evaluators looking for? Evaluators take note of the following items in their chats: sexual and inappropriate chatting, bullying and harassment, a listener being underage or on the wrong side of the site, requesting or sharing offsite contact information, ghosting or incorrectly blocking, empathy, professionalism, giving advice, response time, a listener talking about their own problems, and a listener imposing beliefs and views. On the evaluation form, evaluators will note both what the listener is doing well on, as well as what areas they could potentially work on. Who are the evaluators? Evaluators are trained Mentors [https://www.7cups.com/listener/listenerMentors.php] (from any mentor track) with experience in conducting mock chats and giving constructive feedback. How can I apply to be an Evaluator on the Anonymous Evaluations Team? You can see HERE [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/EvelynesQualityGazebo_2101/ApplyfortheAnonymousEvaluationsTeam_230452/] for information on the role and how to apply. Do evaluators leave reviews and ratings? Evaluators will not leave any reviews or ratings that will negatively affect your personal statistics on your profile. However, they are allowed, at their own discretion, to leave positive reviews if they feel a chat went very well. I feel like this is violating my privacy and is tricking me so I get in trouble or get reported. Should I be nervous? There is nothing to worry about if youā€™re following training and community guidelines. We understand that this can feel like 7 Cups is spying on you and trying to trick you into doing the wrong thing so you get in trouble. However, just like the Verified Listener mock chat, these mentors are simply here to see how youā€™re doing. Evaluators will never do anything inappropriate, harass you, or break guidelines to see how you respond. They will also only pick topics from your profile in an attempt to be sure itā€™s a comfortable topic for you. In general, these should be relatively easy and comfortable member chats, checking for an overall basic understanding of and ability to apply active listening skills. This is taking time from me supporting a real member. How is this fair to members waiting to speak with a listener? While this does take you away from members briefly, this allows us to gather data on what skills the community as a whole should be bolstered. While we want to be sure all members are heard, we also want to be sure that the listeners here are continuing to grow and provide quality support. What is the impact of this project? When will we see results? We will collect data and then be able to have some findings in regards to how this project is impacting the community and overall listener quality. We appreciate your patience as we work hard on this effort. Who can I contact with questions or concerns about this project? @EvelyneRose [http://7cups.com/@EvelyneRose] - Admin Overseeing Project @InternalAcceptance [http://7cups.com/@internalacceptance] - Ambassador/AE Team Lead (Last updated by @Evelynerose on August 2, 2022)
Active Listening Test Update
by EvelyneRose
Last post
May 28th, 2022
...See more Hello everyone, Today I want to share some key updates on the Active Listening Tests 1-4. CM team and AL Leaders were figuring out better ways to strengthen and optimize the Active Listening Tests process to be better, swifter and helpful to develop better understanding of active listening skills. Active Listening Skills are the core skill to serve and support in the community. AL Tests are one of the ways to improve the listening skills. But, due to certain ongoing challenges and limitations, we werenā€™t able to process the tests quickly and offer better feedback at the earliest. But, we believe with the implementation of the following updates, we will be able to process active listening tests at a much faster rate and provide timely feedback and support. Instant Feedback. We are introducing two layered feedback process. First will be a form based standard feedback instantly after you submit the test. Second, a Mentor will reach out to you with detailed feedback once your test get graded. With this change, you would be able to know what areas you need to improve and what steps you can take to achieve it. Better Processing Time. All the tests will be getting processed within 5-7 business days. Here processed refers to: * Grading the tests, * Badging the specific badge, if you successfully completed the test * Providing feedback More Coverage on Feedback Giving. More Mentors will be joining us to help us with better coverage on providing timely feedback. It means you will be able to take timely steps to work towards improving specific skills. Less Requirements to Take the Test. We are removing the requirement of having specific badge in order to take specific test. You may able to attempt another test even if your first test is under process. It means no longer waiting period to attempt more tests to measure your understanding of listening skills. It will enable more timely support and guidance. Tip: Please attempt all the tests 1-4 in the order. It will give you the better understanding. Contact Information. We will be including contact information to ensure you can reach out to the leaders with your questions, concerns, feedback or anything in between and get timely response. We hope that you find these updates helpful. We are committed to provide you better guidance, information and support. AL tests offer an opportunity to learn and improve. Please take the time to attempt these tests and test your understanding. Thank you for your service and support to the community. We value your efforts. P.S.: If you have any questions, need help, more information and guidance on anything related to listening and related resources, visit Listener Support Room / Teen Listeners Room [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php]

...See more Hello! After a year of the Anonymous Evaluations Team, we've worked out the strengths and weaknesses. Effective immediately, we will be cutting the Feedback portion and revamping it into an educational portion. The reason is purely because it just wasn't working the way we hoped. Instead, we will take the data we gather and use it to inform our quality processes going forward, as well as any listener learning initiatives. I have updated the application and all forum posts related to it to reflect this change. Please see the FAQ here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/EvelynesQualityGazebo_2101/AnonymousEvaluationsTeamFAQ_244822/] if you have any questions! Of course, feel free to ask here too! Listeners, Please take this Survey: Ghosting (and Blocking)
by Heather225
Last post
April 27th, 2021
...See more We have dedicated this quarter to the pursuit of quality improvement across the site, and especially where chat quality is concerned. One of the biggest challenges we face in conversations is ghosting. Ghosting, in the context of our site, occurs when a user disappears from a chat without any notice. This can happen on either side (member/listener) in PRs and GRs. We would like to get a better idea of why this happens, and we'll be starting by conducting a survey to find out why listeners block or dont respond to members. Listeners, please fill out this survey HERE [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdCgqqOBR2XOwad4hdT-O803Jf2KVYsOvGaDF15G8AjtuEfqw/viewform]. Please be honest and provide us with as many details as you can, if you have ever ghosted and/or blocked a member. We will use this data to improve our processes. Thank you!

It will last about an hour Who: Me and the community on the adult side Why: To connect better on quality issues and learn what ideas and feedback you have for quality How: Using an open meeting room that will allow you to enter and ask questions. In order to keep things orderly, we will have a queue so that I am not asked 10 questions at once, which can fast become chaotic. People will queue to share and they can share their concerns one by one. Hope to see you there! Evelyne
