Thank you for being a leader on 7 Cups!
Community leaders are a significant part of our community. In stepping into a leadership role with 7 Cups, you have agreed that you align with our values and wish to uphold our mission. You have the ability to inform and influence our community members. So, it is important to lead by example and be a role model to inspire others to aspire to be someone like you to extend the support to others.
In addition to the community guidelines, rules, and policies [https://www.7cups.com/about/communityGuidelines.php] currently in place, we are including a list of reminders, as well as one new rule.
➡ As a community leader, you may be provided with confidential information to perform your work on a team or a project. Use this knowledge for its intended purpose only. In other words, please do not abuse your privileges. We trust you to be responsible and maintain confidentiality.
➡. Refrain from engaging in triangulation. This is a very common mistake people make without even realizing it's happening. Triangulation manifests itself in our community as one person who will not communicate directly with another person, and instead use a third person to relay communication to the second, thus forming a triangle. Triangulation is damaging because it interferes with healthy conflict-resolution and lends itself to rumor spreading by taking a private situation between two users and exposing it to more people. Read more about this and take the Triangulation Pledge. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerCommunityampSiteUpdates_38/LaurasOffice_169/WhatisTriangulation3StepstoAvoidingStoppingitfromhappeninginthecommunity_35107/1/]
➡. Community leaders must maintain strong boundaries. Being a role model, and a trustworthy and reliable leader, users may become dependent on you. To nurture healthy relationships with the community, it's imperative that you set boundaries for yourself and respect those of others.
➡. Community leaders accept feedback gracefully. Getting feedback can be hard to hear, especially if it's more of a constructive criticism than a praise. Leaders should be able to accept feedback gracefully if given constructively. We all are human and all have things to work on and grow.
➡ Please honor and follow our social media policies (i.e. no off-site contact with community members). 7 Cups is a safe environment for you to build and create connections. We love that you are building supportive relationships with each other and enjoy connecting! In order to preserve this safe space, we ask you not to solicit off-site contact. Also bear in mind, once you take interactions off 7 Cups, we are unable to assist you in the event something happens outside of our site.
➡ Reporting is our responsibility. You are the eyes of our community. We have several ways to report incidents that cover all areas of the site, and we rely on you to direct users to those channels. We also rely on you to use them as well. As the slogan goes: if you see something, say something.
➡ We respect your right to use whatever sites you'd like. However, since we launched, we have discovered that some of our leaders have also been working with non-crisis sites that are similar to 7 Cups. We are all for competition, but we want the intention behind it to be solving broader emotional health challenges. We don't want the competition to be a negative interaction between companies. To protect our community and its ongoing progress, we ask that if you would like to pursue leadership with us that you do not affiliate yourself in leadership positions with non-crisis sites similar to 7 Cups.
(When I say similar sites, I am referring to any site that offers the same services as us. This would not include therapists, AA, NAMI, and assistance programs that share our broad goal to provide support in the healthcare industry but are not set up to operate like we do. They all offer different components that work in tandem with us.)
Leaders: please reply below if you have read and understood these rules!
If you have any questions, you may PM anyone on the community team (@Hope, @ASilentObserver, myself).

The value of forum upvotes

[Note: Originally posted in Listeners Only forums, but moved to general forum because this is relevant for all!]
There is something that I've notice about the forums while just observing and not actively participating.
If you're interested in supporting people, truly interested in supporting people, I ask you to try this one thing after reading this post. Go to one support forum thread and read someone's story. You don't need to reply but just read.
I think we can all recall times in our lives when we have been hurt, have been spurned, or have felt alone. Have been lost in our negative thoughts, seeking affirmation from others whether it be positive or whether it be negative.
Do you remember those times?
When I read the support forums, I see hundreds of posts made every day by members. And I see hundreds of threads created by those same members.
What are they after when they post?
Are they after a panacea, a magic bullet to cure all of their ills?
Can you think of a time when you've been there?
When you feel as though you're alone, hiding in the dark. Terrified from the
lack of light, all you are after is one spark to inspire. One spark to remind you that you are important. One spark to acknowledge that you're still worthy of someone's time and attention.
So when I see post after post after post unacknowledged, it makes me wonder. If I was them and I had shown the courage to spill my soul out onto the page for others and nobody had acknowledged that it had even been seen. How would I feel?
As a listener community, we give appreciation readily and openly to one another. Community shout outs to listeners are posted every day. Anonymous appreciation messages are sent daily, again to fellow listeners. Acknowledgement after acknowledgement of one another which is so kind and open however why can this not be shared with our members?
Let me just say this.
A man beaten down by society sits on the side of the road, soul destroyed. Watching person after person look away quickly to avoid his gaze. It makes you feel like less of a human being. A smile, an acknowledgement is worth more to that man than all of the gold that has been mined from this earth.
In the support forums, that acknowledgement is easy. It's called an upvote. A simple click of an upvote to show that someone has taken the time and care to read what they have posted.
Please, spend 30 seconds and make a difference to a member's life today because a forum upvote can be all that it takes.
Keeping Forums Welcoming and Supportive: Forum Guidelines Update

Hi everyone, I hope you all are well. A big thank you to everyone who contributes to a supportive forum environment. We appreciate you! Before making this announcement, I want to share some context. As you know we are a community that is open to learning and growing. We welcome constructive feedback and we celebrate the positive feedback. We have grown a lot over the years and we have noticed an increase in forum posts that do not offer helpful feedback and actually take away from the welcoming and supportive forum environment and that is not okay.
In order to offer helpful constructive feedback please follow this model:
1. Identify the problem or concern.
2. Write it out.
3. Ensure you're not framing any personal opinions as concrete facts, making blanket statements or catastrophizing.
4. Ask what are the emotions that I'm evoking with this feedback?
5. Ask yourself – how would I feel if someone wrote this to me?
6. If you feel good about it, then post it. If you don't feel good about it, then revise it so that you would feel good about it.
You can read more here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/GlensCorner_1874/IncreasingPositiveConnectionsandDecreasingNegativeConnections_37504/1/]
Be sure to include solutions along with the feedback you are providing. Ask yourself, 'Okay, if I were to solve this problem, what would I do?" Try to sketch it out in as much detail as you can. Use the following headings:
Problem - please state clearly
Solution - usually the opposite of the problem
Hypothesis 1 - a concrete way we can implement a solution to try to address the problem.
Hypothesis 2 - a second concrete way we can implement a solution to address the problem.
This is how it would look for quality:
Problem: Some listeners do a poor job of listening as evidenced by leaving chats, taking too long to respond, or not being empathetic.
Solution: Help these listeners do a better job by fully engaging in chats, responding quickly, and being empathic.
Hypothesis 1 - mandatory practice chat box that addresses these issues.
Hypothesis 2 - listener tips that address these issues.
How will we know if the above is working? We should see an increase in 4 and 5 star ratings, positive reviews, and increased positive conversations.
Interested in learning more about the problem/solution model? Learn more here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerLearningJourney_149/GlensCorner_1874/ProvidingNegativeFeedback_4891/]
Following the above-mentioned model allows you to provide helpful feedback that leads to further improvement of our beloved community. You are welcome to provide feedback through this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSesjW62vqaZoJIM9_Xe93Msx-HJTFuq3naiP8u6W1YOos5oCQ/viewform], you can also post feedback in this forum section. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/Feedback_37/]
In order to maintain a therapeutic space, moving forward we will be deleting forum posts (this includes forums that come under sub-communities) that take away from a supportive forum environment. If a forum post is not helpful nor positive then it will be deleted. In such a case, you will be informed of the deletion and if it is in violation of our behaviour point system [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/BehavioralRatingSystem_2108/2020s7CupsBehaviorReportingProcessTrackingUpdatedVersion_226446/] then you will be assigned behavior point(s).
A simple way to ensure that your posts are in line with our guidelines is to answer the following questions:
What kind of impact is this going to have on the community?
Is it neutral, positive, helpful, does it build people up?
Does it create health or compassion?
Please refer to our forum guidelines here. [https://help.7cups.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034305974-Forum-Community-Guidelines]
We are a community that strives for growth and collaboration. We appreciate each and every one of you. This update is to maintain a space where we can come together as a community and continue to work towards our mission. 🌟 Kindness is Contagious 🌟
In a world where everyone is facing their own challenges, sometimes a simple smile can make all the difference. Dolly Parton's words remind us of a powerful truth: "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours."
💙 Whether it's in our professional lives, at home, or within our communities, small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect. We never know what someone else might be going through, and a little warmth, empathy, or encouragement might be just what they need to keep going.
This week, let's challenge ourselves to spread a little positivity. Smile at a colleague, offer encouragement, or lend a listening ear. Together, we can build a more compassionate and supportive world—one smile at a time. 😊

Hi everyone! I hope you are well. As you know lately we have been making efforts to familiarise our users with our sub-communities. We had some success with sub-community workshops [https://www.7cups.com/forum/CommunityProjectsEvents_184/SubcommunityWorkshops_2163/SignuptoleadSubcommunityworkshops_231973/] but we also want to do the training on a larger scale. It does not take a lot to understand the basics of sub-communities. By the end of doing the activities/steps in this post, you should be ready to explore sub-communities on your own.
Anyone who completes all of the following steps and lets us know in this thread will get the explorer badge.
Step 1: Watch this video [https://youtu.be/FZPoqwyikXg]
Step 2: Complete this Quiz [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScZX9mReUYVombXPAliiv7_NI0aHDw33JGcVVP7av74WZzoyw/viewform]
Step 3: Post here and let us know that you did step 1 and 2 and what you learned/liked about the video/quiz.
Thank you to @Tazzie for creating the video and the quiz.
Once you have received the explorer badge, you become eligible to take part in the Building Community Program. Find more information here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/AppreciationGratitude_170/CelebrateCupversariesBirthdays_179/7CupsAcademyBuildingCommunityProgram_234156/]
Prioritizing You: Self-Care for 7 Cups Leaders
by Heather225

Hello, leaders and aspiring leaders!
Holding roles on 7 Cups can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also lead to exhaustion if we don't prioritize our well-being and strike the balance between what we do here and what we do for ourselves. Remember the motto: you can’t pour from an empty cup.
In honor of Self-Care Awareness Month, I present you with some tips to help you find that sweet spot between giving your all and taking care of you:
Managing:
*
Schedule it in: Just like you schedule chats, block out dedicated self-care time in your calendar. Whether it's a meditation session, a walk in nature, or simply reading a book, treat it with the same importance as your leadership duties.
*
Batch similar tasks: Group similar leadership tasks (like reviewing applications or responding to emails) into specific time blocks. This will help you stay focused and avoid context switching burnout.
*
Sharing is Caring: The Power of Teamwork: One of the most common traps for leaders is the urge to do everything themselves. While it might feel satisfying to be the one in charge, it's also a surefire way to burn out. Remember, leadership isn't about micromanaging or taking on all the responsibilities; it’s unrealistic and it also doesn’t allow others to step up to help and gain experience. Being willing to share the load is how we work smarter, not harder..
*
Collaboration = together, we achieve: Create opportunities for your team to work together on projects. Collaboration not only boosts productivity but also strengthens relationships with each other, not to mention it’s how 7 Cups operates. No one does anything alone. Check out this post I made exploring examples of how you can collaborate with your peers! [https://www.7cups.com/forum/7cupsleadership/LeadershipResources_2404/ExploringMethodsofLeadershipCollaborationAcrosstheCommunity_313417/]
Setting Healthy Boundaries:
*
Know your limits: Be honest with yourself about how much you can handle. Don't feel obligated to take on more than feels comfortable. Saying "no" is a sign of strength and self-respect.
*
Communication is key: If you need a break from listening chats or leadership duties, let your fellow leaders and the 7 Cups team know. Clear communication fosters a supportive environment for everyone.
*
"Offline" time matters: Set clear boundaries around your personal time. Log out of the platform when you're finished for the day and resist the urge to check in constantly. There’s never anything so urgent here that you have to be “on call” or have to rush back online.
*
Be aware of how long you spend on 7 Cups. Most applications for roles have a general estimate of how much time is needed to perform the role. Use that as a measurement in combination with other roles you may be holding.
*
Self-Compassion Is a Thing: Don't be your own worst critic! Celebrate your accomplishments and acknowledge the challenges. Remind yourself that taking care of yourself is essential for effective leadership.
Leading by example starts with taking care of yourself first. By prioritizing self-care, you'll be a more resilient, effective leader. One of our core values is [https://www.7cups.com/about/values.php] Have fun and keep full.
So, lead with a full cup!

Hi team, as you hopefully know, we usually communicate via the needs reply communication thread here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/7CupsLeadership_188/TheNeedsReplyTeamProject_781/needsreplyteamcommunicationthread_227761/], but we have decided to create a new communication thread to keep updated, to keep everything in one place and to also remind everyone of expectations of the team. This also allows new members of the team to refer to this original post for the information needed.
Bi-weekly check ins are going to be posted in this thread from now on. When these are posted, please do respond as these are posted to make sure that you are okay, and that you're still active. This will also be a reminder to fill out the tracking form (click here) [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ZkxLDwFrEY4RRDDp0cm4_GHpdgkKjpckEFMXyDvxwmE/edit] so that we can ensure activity from team members and to keep track of the Needs Reply teams progress! There is more information about the form here. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/7CupsLeadership_188/TheNeedsReplyTeamProject_781/NeedsReplyTrackingForm_254884/]
The monthly quota for those on the NR team is 10 responses to needs reply posts (not forum posts in general) - if you are unclear of what this means then please refer to the needs reply queue here [https://www.7cups.com/home/#needsreply] or you can ask me. As many of you have hopefully seen, changes are being made to the offboarding process which Cheery has made a post about here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/HelpWanted_188/TheNeedsReplyTeamProject_781/NeedsReplyTeamOffboardingPolicy_298409/]- please do make sure to look at this as this is the process we will be following from now on. If you have any questions about it please do write them on the post, message @CheeryMango or myself.
It is important to make sure that members of the team respond effectively to the posts. It is important that all members of the team read this post [https://www.7cups.com/forum/7CupsLeadership_188/TheNeedsReplyTeamProject_781/EffectiveReplying_286362/] on effective responding. If you are new to the team please do read and respond, and if you are not new to the team feel free to refresh back whenever you feel you need a refresher on effective responding or to look at it if you haven't yet - thank you!

I have yet to find a community (or listener) I feel comfortable with.
It would be great to have a group/community/listeners for mature, self-aware individuals with the intellect to articulate and discuss their issues knowledgeably and coherently.
Any advice, insights, and/or support in the matter would be greatly appreciated.
