What's your best life lesson?

tommy November 22nd, 2023

Happy Wisdom Wednesday!

Life is busy and we are constantly figuring out ways to improve ourselves. Arguably, the more experience we have the more wise we become. They say experience is the best teacher!

What is a life lesson that you have learned through personal experience?

This thread is part of our Cupsgiving event! Find out other ways you can get involved here.

@tommy I think the biggest lesson I learned this week is not to be so frustrating. All the book publishing could be frustrating at times.

@tommy    my best life lessons? thats a hefty list. im only 17 but ive had past therapists and allat have told me ive been through more than most 30 year olds in my life. i dont do therapy anymore because they dont really help me personally, but okay im rambling.

1: be patient. with yourself AND others.

2: the best things in life are the things you have to wait for

3: you can find friendship in the most unlikely of times

4: when win, keep your head down respectfully. when you loose lift your head up and try again.

5: life will never be easy, but it will be easier AND funner with a special someone. find that someone

6: learn to love yourself. its hard but your whole world will change.

A few things I've learned:

  • Don't get too attached to worldly things, because what can be acquired can also be lost...or taken.
  • Conflict is a basic part of life. Learn how to deal with it. If you pick your battles wisely then you're halfway to victory already.
  • Those who marry for money will wind up earning it.
  • Self-interest is the mother of all rationalizations.
  • Remember this: no matter how good or bad things are right now, in 1,000 years none of it will matter.
  • No job, no matter how well it pays, is worth staying in if it makes you constantly miserable. That also goes for wives & husbands.
  • Life is too short to be taken too seriously.

Almost forgot an important one:

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. That is the principal difference between a dog and a man."

- Mark Twain

(He was right. Trust me on this.)

@tommy

A life lesson that I learned through experience was to never put too much trust into people and that you can be mislead and hurt by those who you love and/or care for. I also learned that I can do anything that I put my mind to.
