Bio
Hi there!
My name is Jessie, it's lovely to meet you! I'm a queer/non-binary (they/them) Funeral Director in the Meanjin (Brisbane) area of Australia. I'm also a trained filmmaker by trade, who performs in drag shows in their spare time and has a penchant for collecting kpop albums (particularly Stray Kids)!
As a Funeral Director I am experienced in guiding and supporting folks through times of immense grief and loss and helping them find closure as they farewell their loved ones. In my career I have the privilege of being able to work with persons from all ages and walks of life, especially those of varying religious and spiritual beliefs, people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and those with profound discomfort in the face of concepts such as mortality and facing the potential loss of a loved one.
In my life I have experienced a number of different ups and downs, and have a lived experience that I find is almost essential in providing nuanced and contextualised support. As a neurodivergent queer/non-binary person who lives with chronic illness and past traumas, I lend a listening ear and support that has been curated based on a mixture of first-hand understanding and awareness of community discourse and the inherent biases in professional support networks that may make people wary of seeking professional help.
On my profile you will see some of the topics that I have experience with. I have also previously participated in Lifeline Peer Mentorship and Peer Skills training.
As a little disclaimer, there are some topics that I consider to be much better handled by folks with a better understanding and/or a lived experience. I am still learning, and until I have a deeper understanding of these issues and experiences and the community dialogue surrounding them, I don't feel comfortable offering guidance that could potentially be harmful. I am more than willing however, to assist in helping you seek the appropriate support persons or services on any of these issues!
Despite the wall of text above, I'm here to chat about anything you wanna talk about, even if it's as simple as wanting to gush about your hobbies to an enthusiastic listener! Due to the nature of my job I may be a bit irregular on here, but I'll endeavour to pop online as often as I can!
Take care, and I look forward to chatting with you!
