Bio
Hi there you beautiful human.....My name is Christina and I am so excited to meet you!
A Little Bit About Me!
I am an aspiring clinical social worker and mental health advocate. My talents include tripping over my own feet, laughing at the most inappropriate of times, being indecisive, socially awkward, extremely sensitive, and taking everything personally. My hobbies include reading and writing, spending hours overthinking everything I’ve ever said and done in my life, trying to convince my shadow I’m someone worth following, and tending to the graveyard in my closet. I, like most things in life, am a work in progress, but I also love deeply and unconditionally and will give anything to see another smile.
Why I Became A Listener!
My reason for becoming a listener comes on both a personal level and as a future clinician. There was a moment in middle school that looking back, I always refer to as what began my mental health journey. I remember standing in the crowded hallway, a sea of people surrounding me, almost in tears, feeling entir`ely alone. Back then, I saw mental illness as the media portrayed it: you had to be “crazy,” unable to function, harmful to others, or dying. I could not understand what was happening to me, why I felt this way, and why I wasn’t like everyone around me. Octavia E. Butler once said, “In order to rise from the ashes, the Phoenix must first burn.” In my life, I have been given this fire, a painful fire that many times has almost consumed me. It took me burning almost completely to find out otherwise, and I am grateful that Google and the Suicide Hotline Chat and a listener here on 7Cups were there to show me otherwise. Had it not been for them and the amazing therapist that soon followed, I would not be here today. I would never have the chance to rise from those ashes and become the beautiful thing I was always meant to be, a work in progress. That being said, looking back, I wish there had been someone to tell me before it got to that point what I was experiencing. I wish that someone had said, “Hey there, I know staying alive is really hard right now, and I know you’re tired, I know it hurts, but you aren’t alone, it gets better, and there is help out there.” Having been there, I understand, and I want to help others to never experience that feeling. If I can take something away from this and use it to help others... It makes it worth it.
From my experiences and these realizations grew my passion for mental health advocacy and my interest in becoming a future clinical social worker. My life’s work is to raise awareness and help others find the strength to keep going, the courage to heal, the bravery to be their full authentic selves, and their voice to speak up, even when it shakes. It is as much a part of me as the air I breathe, and I would never want it to be any other way. Being a listener also helps me get a head start on this!
My Listening Strengths
I know how it feels to desperatley want a listener to understand what you are trying to tell them and the frustration when they are unable to. As such, here you will find some of my strengths whether they be things I have personally experienced or things I have gained experience in throughout my journey as a listener. I know trauma listeners are expecially hard to find so, if you need help, please feel free to message me! That being said, I have gone through every active listening manual and have training in everything! So, if you need support, you can always message me <3

A Few Much Deserved Recognitions
They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it also takes a village to be a listener. I would not be here today if not for the amazing listeners who have stood by me through thick and thin. This list is far from complete, and I promise to keep adding to it as I think!

Sam... you are my best friend, my human diary, my other half, and I love you. Sometimes in life, you find a special friend. Someone who changes your life just by being part of it. Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop. Someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world. Someone who convinces you that there really is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it. This is forever friendship. When you're down and the world seems dark and empty, your forever friend lifts you up in spirit and makes that dark and empty world suddenly seem bright and full and if they can't do that they stand next to you in the darkness and let you know you are never alone. Your forever friend gets you through the hard times, the sad times an the confused times. If you turn and walk away, your forever friend follows. If you lose your way, your forever friend guides you and cheers you on. Your forever friend hold your hand and tells you that everything is going to be okay. And if you find such a friend, you feel happy and complete because you need not worry. You have a forever friend, and forever has no end. Sam.. you are my forever friend.

You've supported me through everything, picked me up every time I fell down, helped me figure out my way through the darkness when I couldn't see light, deal with the bullies here and some of the bullies in myself, taught me so much about being a listener and a friend, and never gave up, even when I did. You've always had all the answers and when you didn't you knew where to find them. Thank you for reassuring me that I would get one day acheive my dream of being a teen star every single time I had a meltdown over it (which was often.) Thank you for pushing me to be greater than I ever could imagine. I would be lost without you
-@Keanan
How can one even begin to put everything you have done for me in words? You were there to see my very first (quite unsteady) steps as a listener and have been there ever since. Thank you for never judging me, being patient with my ditziness at times, and never getting angry when I asked you the same qiestion three times for clarification. Thank you for teaching me how to be a good listener and friend, being one of my biggest cheerleaders, giving me the term huggles, and believing in me and the beauty of my dreams when I couldn't do so myself. You are an amazing human and listener.

Joe... Joe... Joe... what can we say about Joe........ kidding haha.... a picture is worth a million words

Some Words Of Inspiration
"Dear You (the beautiful person reading this,)
You are not a monster. You are a valuable, unique, wonderful human being who deserves everything grand that this life has to offer. Come out of the shadows and stand proudly in who you are.
You are not damaged. You are whole, regardless of having struggles. I like you the way you are. I wouldn’t change you. I see you differently than you see yourself. I am not afraid of you or your struggles... I am amazed by you. I am amazed by your courage, willpower, gifts and talents. I accept you, and your worlds of light and darkness.
Some people just have a “neighborhood” in their mind and they never get lost. You have endless terrain to explore, but sometimes you take a wrong turn and can’t find your way home. I love your vast landscape and remember... we can make you maps. You can figure out how to stay safe and still sail on majestic seas of emotion.
You are not “crazy.” You are not violent. You are not the lame stereotypes.
The world needs you and your story. You have been to hell and back and you are here to say, “It gets better.” When a person is struggling, many people look away. They change the subject or suddenly need a drink refill. You reach your hand out into the darkness to find theirs. You share your lantern. You’re not afraid of darkness, because you know it... You had coffee with darkness yesterday. He brought donuts. He doesn’t scare you like before. You know how to work with him.
You are creative, artistic, and a dreamer. That same imagination that exhausts you with sad images and fearful scenarios can also dream up amazing art, music, business ventures etc. You’ve held so much pain that is now energy that you can use... What are you going to do with it? Create or destruct? Choose create.
Just because you are different, doesn’t mean you are broken. Different people change the world, because they can see beyond what is.
Please stop picturing bad things happening. You’re not going to suddenly go crazy. Your friend doesn’t hate you because she hasn’t texted back. When you picture something going wrong, remember it could also go right. College could be better than high school. You could meet a wonderful partner. The next medicine could work. You could live a full, happy life.
Yes, challenges will come but you can face them with all that you are when they are here. Focus on what is in front of you. Life is too short to be absent from it.
We all make mistakes. We all act out of pain or confusion and do stupid, hurtful things. We are all human. It’s time to forgive yourself for everything. Guilt and shame slow your ship down too and you are ready to live free from them. You’re gaining more and more speed...
You are ready for life to take you to the most beautiful places.
Please know you are worthy of love. The right person will fall *madly* for you. Someone worthy (yes, they need to be worthy of you) will be crazy for you - Cue Crazy In Love by Beyoncé.- See, now they are the crazy one!
Please remember to laugh and be ridiculous. Remember what you are grateful for. Remember the small joys and the big joys. Think back on a time when a friend or family member made you laugh till you peed a little. Watch a funny, stupid movie. Take a bubble bath that smells like marshmallows. Take a mental health day and don’t feel one ounce of guilt."
