Trust me, I get it. That is exactly why I am here. Listening to others the way I at times need listened to.
Choosing to be vulnerable and discuss what you are facing is not easy. Even if you don't request a chat with me, just know I am proud of you for making an impactful positive step. That's huge.
A Reminder of Mental Health Importance
I was raised in a home where mental health was taboo. Therapists were known as "shrinks," tears were seen as weakness, and discussion of feelings meant you weren't close enough to God. That is a lot for a child to process, when the reality is the child only wants to process what they feel, think, and express is valid. As an adult, I would love to give others a completely different experience than I had growing up when it comes to mental health.
Here is a reminder to myself and anyone else who may read my bio...
Mental Health IS:
- Important
- Closely tied to Physical Health
- Something everyone has
- Hard Work
- Can be effects by choices, eating, sleeping, exercise, events, etc.
- Worth making time for
- Part of being human
- Both positive and negative
- Complex
- Real
- Valid
Mental Health IS NOT:
- A sign of weakness or laziness
- Something to be ashamed of
- All in your mind
- Something to only care for when it's hard
- A definitive that something is "wrong" with you
- Fake
- Easy
Reassurance when facing trials with your mental health can significantly impact the self perception.
