Absolutely I have an overactive mind, especially at night. Usually playing a cozy video game and playing some of my comfort Let's Plays on YouTube helps a lot.

Sometimes journaling or coloring helps, but I get so nervous about "ruining" the picture or "writing something that doesn't matter" that I don't always find that helps.

Definitely an over thinker. I listen to a lot of different things at night depending on how my anxiety is and what my brain needs. Some of these were shared to me by others, some I stumbled across in the wee hours of the morning when I’m looking for something to fall asleep to:

Meditation: Headspace, breathing, counting backward

Podcast: Nothing Much Happens

YouTube: Get Sleepy and certain sound baths, sometimes church choirs or monks chanting

Sounds: waves, rivers, cats purring, different color noises - some bother me and some relax me. You have to try them out and see what works for you.

When I find my mind racing at night, I start to breathe deeply and imagine my body getting heavier each time I breathe out. This usually helps calm me pretty quickly and then I'm asleep!

@soulsings, yes! Sometimes it seems like our issues are controlling us (it's more common than you think). Anyway, since the pandemic I usually have a routine for sleep time, and that helps me a lot, that's why I'll share it with you:

1- I do a yin yoga session.

2- I take a warm shower, focusing on the present moment.

3- I prepare my bed (clean, fragrant sheets make all the difference, believe me!)

4-I wear a sleep mask with headphones (to listen to guided meditation or nature sounds. They are so calming!)

5- If I'm not in to listen to something, I just read, until I fall asleep.

Important: avoid any kind of electronics or social media at night. The blue light and amount of information disrupt your sleep... focus on your breathing, sensations and body parts, instead of in your own thoughts. Good luck!

Do you suffer from an overactive mind at nighttime? I do suffer at times where my mind wonders at night. What helps you to quiet racing thoughts so you can get a peaceful sleep? I write in my journal while I am outside in my porch I clear my mind by listening to all the sounds outside is giving me and certain sounds ease my mind to where I am relaxed and can fall asleep

@soulsings. Anytime I watch videos from a local band I'm a fan of, for some reason everything and anything that I've been worried about or thinking about goes away. Their music is like medicine to my brain...it's really strange lol

For me meditations and prayers helps a lot.

My opinion on why you are too active at night is because your mind was on hyperactivity throughout the day. So try to stay alert and calm in the daytime to have a goodnight sleep.

@Hereforyouall144 I think you’re right about an overactive daytime mind affecting sleep.
