Feature Update: Statuses coming to a profile near you
Wanted to let you know about a feature update that will be released later today or tomorrow. This one was actually inspired by some feedback from @Fradiga so thank you!
Recently, quotes were added to profiles on the website (you can add a quote from your settings page and it is displayed underneath your profile picture). We are now evolving quotes into statuses (but you can still use it for a quote if you prefer) and that status/quote will also be displayed on your profile rollover (what you see when you hover on someone's profile picture).
This means that you can let other users know handy info like when you tend to be online, what types of support you are looking for/provide or (probably the best use) a one liner/quote that shares a bit more about who you are.
For this to work, we will have to impose a character limit on statuses/quotes so some users will need to update and shorten theirs. If you still want to share longer quotes, you're free to do so in the bio section in your profile. The character limit is being finalised and I'll share that soon.
@Jon7Cups
Sounds great yay! Thank y'all!💗
@fradiga yay for your awesome feedback!
(A lil side note to everyone coming across. *your suggestions and feedback does matter and it does make a difference, please always feel free to voice them, whether positive or constructive [being mindful about putting the constructive feedback across in a helpful way of course, everyone tries their best and deserves some kindness], there might be someone who feels the same way and it could be another kind way of "seeing" people. Grateful for each one of youuu.)💗
Wow! This is so cool. Thank you.
@Jon7Cups
When will there be an option to choose if we want people to see our forum threads on our profile?
I don't feel comfortable with people being able to find my forum threads through my profile, that's why I haven't used the forums anymore. And seems like all our previous feedback has been discarded and wasn't important or mattered.
@ALeXaNdEr0712 I know you're not happy about that feature update. Its largely been well received and usage of the forum has increased quite a bit since the change. Connecting public forum posts to the user that wrote them is standard practice on public forum sites like ours. We're of course happy to delete any posts for you if you'd like. And there are many private features on the site if you're not comfortable using the public forum - such as growth paths and the journal.
@Jon7Cups
The private journal and growth paths defeat the purpose of getting support from your circle of trusted people in the forums. That’s why there’s a fuss. Some of us depended on forums for support because let’s be honest, I’m not going to search up random peoples threads manually. I don’t care enough. But even I have found myself clicking on and reading thru forums that I never would have looked at before because they’re living on profiles. And I can pretty much guarantee I’m not the only one. I don’t know about anyone else but I know I have felt like an intruder in some of those threads. And while I know I won’t use those peoples vulnerability against them, there is bound to be people who will.
I understand you view this as a positive update. And I am all for a listeners threads being on their profile. I see an actual usefulness in that. And I can understand that some members enjoy having their threads on their profile. It is not an all bad feature. But several people do also have a lot of valid concerns regarding that I don’t see why a compromise isn’t possible.
@Jon7Cups
Please do not talk about standard practices on forum sites while simultaneously disallowing people the basic ability to edit or delete their own posts. The hypocrisy of such a statement is tangible.
@Jon7Cups
@ALeXaNdEr0712
my suggestion if they arent going to do anything (which I agree is ridiculous, I have a couple personal threads for me and others and just me venting, it ain't anyone business) is create a couple crap threads. Memes, idk music, art, idek just crap. Then post on your older ones so they won't appear immediately
@ALeXaNdEr0712
Hi, Alexander!
I know it's not exactly what you are asking for here, but you can ask that threads you have posted to be deleted, so they will not be shown on your profile.
You can ask for that through this form: https://forms.gle/d98gN1dxxdTPRfor6
I hope you find it useful.
See you soon in the rooms!
@HealingTalk That's indeed 'not exactly' what they asked for.
@cloudySummer
You are absolutely right. This is an alternative to consider if the desired option is not implemented. Most people don't know this tool, and it is also useful in itself.
But this is clearly not the optional inclusion of threads that many people are asking for.
@ALeXaNdEr0712
Yeah, I’m curious when concerns will actually be heard regarding that. Considering I’ve been flat out ignored about it multiple times, I don’t think it matters to those it doesn’t affect that it was a safe space for some that is now a space too uncomfortable to use. Kinda sucks especially when you don’t have other places to share.
@HealingTalk
Being able to delete your thread isn’t the savior here. We shouldn’t have to delete our threads just so that the tiniest bit of privacy and autonomy over our accounts are respected. Not sure why I’m being completely ignored when trying to provide feedback regarding it and not sure why we can make all of these other updates but not one that at least gives the option to “hide” a thread from our profile page. Doesn’t seem like it could be all that difficult since members can already disable the option of listeners to PM them and this seems like a similar type of feature remove. It’s simply not fair that the people who used forums as their one place to be open feel to unsafe and now don’t feel comfortable going anywhere with stuff bothering them. I just wish people would take the time to acknowledge and listen to concerns because there’s no real reason member threads need to be linked to their profile page.
@Mack we receive feedback, requests and ideas from dozens and dozens of users (if not more) every day and its not possible to reply to them all or indeed to do what they want. In fact, much of whats requested contradicts with each other. Many users have contacted me saying that more info needs to be shared so that users can better support each other!
All feedback is welcomed and encouraged. And we do our best to monitor it all. It informs the product decisions we make about how to improve the service. Behind the scenes we're real people doing our best to provide the most supportive service and community on the internet. I hope one day you can appreciate the competing demands we're managing and support the decisions that are made - especially when its not something you hoped for.
@Jon7Cups
A lot of things have been implemented that I am not fond of but did not make a fuss about so please don’t assume I do not appreciate your guys’ efforts. I’m glad that some are happy about the new forum thread on profiles thing. But many are extremely uncomfortable with it. I genuinely don’t understand why we can’t have a choice about what lives on our profile. It is quite literally nobody’s business what is in my forum threads. If they want to know that bad then they can hunt for them. But it’s insane that we 1. can’t even edit our own forum posts and 2. can’t turn off the option to have them on our profile.
Why are we able to turn off the option for listeners to pm us? Because from what I’ve gathered, it’s because some are not comfortable having new listeners just PM them whenever. It’s to give us a say and implement some boundaries for ourselves. But we can’t do that with our threads? I don’t understand it. I wouldn’t be as upset if we were at least heard out. But instead we are completely dismissed and treated like our feelings and opinions are wrong. So many members dislike this feature. I’m not saying remove it completely because some absolutely might enjoy it. I’m saying it wouldn’t hurt to give us the option.
@Jon7Cups - With respect, I would understand this rebuttal if it were one or two people presenting this feedback in a sea of feedback. But indeed, tons of people have posted this specific request in multiple threads of yours and through other feedback methods. Tons. It seems the reply is saying 7cups ignored all of their voices because 7cups did not notice (wow) or did not prioritize their voices (ouch). It's incredibly dismissive, and not to one or two people, but a large number of the community.
I do appreciate that you make the effort to respond however. I know you personally may not be in charge of these decisions, but you can be our champion and gift for what the majority is begging for. Thank you for reading.
@Jon7Cups
How nice!
It will give more depth and life to the profile rollover, and a hint of the person's personality behind it. Also, we can change it according to how we feel, to express our emotional state to others.
Congratulations on a great new feature!
@Jon7Cups
Exciting! Cannot wait for this feature.
@Jon7Cups
That's a cool feature!
I have used HTML-coded boxes at the top of my bio to let members of my current status (On break, or not taking members etc.) It doesn't always work, as only a few actually read listener bios before sending requests.
I hope this new feature makes our status/quotes more visible to anyone coming across the profiles 😊
im loving the new addition!
@jon, @Fradiga, thank you for this thoughtful idea! I think it is nice to give people a little glimpse into who they are by hovering over them. The quote is a very nice addition!
@Jon7Cups great feature. I'd like to have a quote beneath my profile picture. Unfortunately, the word limit is too short, so I can't use it for my favorite quote🙁
