Feature Update: Profile pages
As mentioned, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to update profile pages on the website (coming soon to an app near you!). Profiles are really important, particularly for a mental health community. Its a place to express ourselves and how we form connections with each other - which makes it easier to lift each other up.
7 Cups has evolved a lot over the last few years and our profile pages haven’t kept up with many of the new features. This update is focused on bringing profiles in line with the rest of the site and in harmony with the many different things you can do on 7 Cups. We’ve also received many suggestions and feedback over the years - which we’ve compiled and reviewed, and has influenced how we’ve designed and built the new pages. We hope to do more with profiles in the future 🙏.
So whats in this update?
The layout now reflects the 3 column approach we use for much of the site. The benefit of this is you can see most a of users profile on larger screens without scrolling. The central profile section focuses on your key data - streaks, points and level - and we’ve tried to make it easy and quick to read. The badges section now also includes a counter so you can see how many badges a user has.
The biggest change is when you go to your own profile. There is now a private section that only you can see which is the home for your journal and activity timeline. The activity timeline tracks most of the key therapeutic activities you can do on the site, along with your assessment data (e.g. PHQ9 or flourishing measures) and previous journal entries. Our hope is that with greater visibility of your own data and behaviour, will come greater understanding of what most helps you.
In future updates we would like to add a space for pinning your favourite quote and maybe the ability to customise some of the colour of your profile. Also a little warning that we will eventually need to strip back the coloured text I know many of you love using - it makes profiles hard to read for those with eyesight problems (and it doesn’t translate to the app well) and we want the platform to be inclusive for everyone.
The new profiles should be released this week and we hope you like them!

Challenges highlighted are certainly valid. However, more than just seeing/ using colors as some way of beautifying text, for me personally, it's a way to demarcate some distinction between different topics/ sub-heads, and to avoid a bigger chunk of text as one difficult to read/ make distinctions in, if it's all in the same color/ or even just the default black setting! So I'd still consider having some colors to be able to use!
Would it be possible to include atleast some colors that might be more comfortable for those with eyesight challenges as well as compatible with the app too?
The other updates sound pretty helpful and appealing, looking forward to them. As always, thank you to the entire team, for continually working hard to improve user-experience here! 💛

I completely agree! While the other updates are great, I am so sad to know the colours will be removed. Thank you so much 7 Cups team for customizing and updating bio and profile page.
Although I have liked the profiles earlier too, the update is new and looks good. Obviously, with time, we all will get used to it. But to be honest, the Stats section looks crowded. I liked the previous system of stats in 2-3 coloumns.
But I am really disappointed to know that colours will be removed. I understand that it might be a problem for people with eyesight issues and it doesn't work well with the app, but there could be other ways too, instead of removing it completely. I understand that the team must have given it a good thought but as Sun said, maybe some light (or whichever) colours that work well for people with eyesight issues too and work well with the app too, could be allowed. I request you all to please give it a thought again, if possible.
What I am loving the most in this update is that all the necessary information can be read without scrolling. Thank you!
PC experience: Fantastic! Everything seems great in PC. Things are organized (except Stats) and all the necessary information can be seen without scrolling. Profile page in PC looks phenomenal to me.

There are no text colour changes in this update. We wouldn't dare do that to you at short notice! Just wanted to start the conversation on finding a collective solution for it. Like the idea suggested of a shortlist of colours. Open to more ideas too!

the colors did help keep people's attention especially when their bio may have a lot in it and have a couple of different topics (listeners' schedule, resources, teams they are a part of, etc)
It kinda helped separate each topic as well. hopefully, it can be updated in the future so we can add colors again

The new profile update is not a good one. It is making it difficult to read the information about the listeners or the members. All the information seems like overlapping each other and not clearly visible.
It would be highly appreciated if this update can be removed and the profile view can be restored back to the previous one.

Hello Jon! It looks very nice but on mobile browser I noticed that my bio no longer is showing. This is where I clarify which chat topics I do or don't discuss
@SirenOfSerenity Hmm, I checked and your bio displays correctly for me. But message me if you think there is an issue. Note that the light pink text colour you have chosen is hard to read.

Hi Jon! 😊 ❤️ Me again. I just went and *took a spin around the block*, across the platform and checked my profile page also. I see the changes and I love them. Wow! 😊❤️
For me, personally, this is much more aesthetically appealing. I would have never complained about what it was that we had in the past, however this is much nicer! It is much more pleasing to the eye. I couldn't tell you why it feels that way, it just does. It seems prettier and somehow gives the eye a chance to rest in between different points?
It feels more organized to me and quite calm. Somehow it simply registers to me as making more sense? I imagine you know why you did it and the science behind it all. It feels as if you have coupled science of the brain, what it is that washes over our retina's, with technology and coding. This is clearly no accident why I feel this way when looking at my profile page (somehow I do know that and not sure how). This is not serendipity, but yet highly intentional and I like it! ❤️
I do a little interior design work and I try to use color jumps, the magic number of 3 (or odd numbers with decorating) use triangle lighting as well as having moments to allow the eye to rest. I know nothing about websites and am simply a neophyte in the realm of decorating also however, what I do is highly intentional to have that sense of peace and harmony to wash over the brain.
No more counting badges, the number is there. I love that touch as well.❤️

Congrats on getting this change deployed!!!
Though, me personally, I don't like it much.
First of all, the profile data (cheers, reviews, chats, etc.) is looking very disorganized. I liked it in the 2 column layout, that was easy to read. This is hard on the eyes, and I have to go through it line by line to find a specific stat.
Secondly, the colors :O I love the colors and would hate to see them go. I like the ideas of having some shortlist of colors, if necessary, but please don't them all away.
Also, recently my bio has been changing on it's own every now and then. There are often some extra lines in between certain text, and sometimes a gap that I've deliberately left vanishes.
Lastly, some of the category links on my profile don't work. If I click on them, they'll route me to the dashboard.

Honestly I agree. i prefer the previous layout of the profile data. the new one looks pretty disorganised like you said.

Great layout! It does help to see a lot of info at a glance.
I wonder why show by default a truncated version of the Bio, if that column is all empty below. I would show the full version by default.
I would also remove the word "Bio" as different people use this section for different purposes, writing very different kinds of things. Some are inspirational, others informative, some focus on their roles in Cups, some tell a few things about themselves, quotes, recommended books, or music, etc.
Few people write their biography there if any.
And the nature of the content is self-explanatory.
