Safety Patrol: Cheers and Top 5 Flaggers! ✨
Hello everyone! I hope you're doing well 🌞
This will be our main forum thread detailing when cheers have been awarded, and our Top 5 Flaggers! It will be updated every so often with new Top 5 Flaggers (I'd like to aim for once a month, but I have a feeling it'll be a bit more sporadic than that), and when cheers have been awarded for flagging.
So, this space is quite important for Safety Patrol team members.
Maybe 'subscribe' to this page and keep an eye on updates from Safety Patrol leaders!

As per usual I tried like 10 times and came up with only 1 tag - didn't log it. I'm going to review my flagging guidelines and see if there is something I'm missing. More often than not I only find blank profiles - nothing there at all. Not sure where you all are finding fully written profiles with such consistency, but bravo to you!!!!!

@AffyAvo Thanks for that tip! I do tend to focus on member profiles more often, so maybe that's part of the reason I don't find as much.
@MidwesternCalmSeeker You're welcome! For members I find it's mostly new names which are easier to catch. Occasionally I pick up an issue with a profile when something has been a bit off in a group chatroom or in the forums.

Note: This is not a reply to the thread. Just my view/personal opinion, along with some constructive criticism -
Grrrrrrrrr. I just lost the coveted Safety Patrol badge at the end of June for not meeting that totally rediculous system-automated quota, which irks me, as well as others here, some, who have been on the Safety Patrol for a long time, now only to suddenly find that the badge and the little black flag (as seen on the profiles pages) had suddenly gone poof.
I'm not even going to get into the system-automated monthly quota to keep other badges intact BUT putting a quota on safety (and security) matters just makes it look like (to me), that it's all just a contest or game to see who can "outflag" the other (and get notoriety/accolades, etc., for doing so) and also puts undue and unwarranted pressure on Members or Listeners to be here on this site more than he/she really wants to or generally has time to just to try to maintain a single badge.
Extremely noteworthy, I was told, some time back, that ALL verified Listeners were able to flag profiles (before it was known as the Safety Patrol). Then that all changed (behind the scenes) for whatever reason BUT in my educated eyes the ONLY way I can see a badge being [legitimally] removed, especially one directly-associated with making this site a safe/inviting place for ALL users, is if/when one wants to simply have the badge removed at their personal direct request OR special privledges that come with the badge have been deemed misused or abused.

I see that this is the second time that you have stopped by and contributed to this thread. Once again, I see that you are not pleased. I am so very sorry. I send big *hugs* ❤️. I can understand that losing the badge, now twice, could be a bit frustrating for you. 😳
I see that you said you don't want to mention quota's (the tracker) for other roles. I wonder why that is? The other teams have them. All teams have quota's to remain on them. If one were to not fulfill their duties (quota's) which the trackers are able to quantify for us, then the badge is removed. I think it's fine to up bring the fact that all of the other teams have quotas, as one of the 7 cups core values is *we believe in equality*. 😊 (I am on other teams as well. If I do not meet my quota, other badges would be removed).
This makes the rules apply to all people and all teams. I find that to be quite lovely.😊❤️ In fact, this shows us that removal of a badge from the safety patrol team for not fulfilling the quota is not personal, not meant to be punitive, not directed at any certain teammate and is a universal construct. All teams have value here on this platform and all are worthy.
Clearly their is something about the safety patrol team and only this team that is somewhat special and unique for having a tracker (quota) that just does not "sit well" with you. Somehow this is specifically unsettling for you as you say you that you do not want to speak of the other teams having quotas and trackers here in this thread as well as, I have never noticed you visiting other threads for all of the other teams of their trackers and their quota's for the month and finding fault with that.
Many of the other teams have forum posts for acknowledging the work done by individuals, celebrating victories as a team, handing out cheers and perhaps a volunteer receiving a *high five* 😊 or a *hug* ❤️ for all of their efforts for volunteering and giving freely of themselves and I haven't noticed you visiting those.
Twice you have referred to the safety patrol badge as "coveted". What is it about this badge that makes you "covet" it? I don't understand why it is that you would, as you have said above that you have "less time to maintain a single badge". Clearly you have said so yourself, that time is an issue? You have also stated above that your feelings are that others want to acquire or maintain this badge because they see it as a "contest/game". That for one to have and maintain the badge is a signifier that they are "seeking notoriety and accolades". Why would you want that badge and be a part of a team that you see it that way? I wouldn't.
First I will say that others have been on this team for many years as well. Many teammates have done their personal best to help the cause long before cheers were given, long before this forum post was created to celebrate the victories as a team in an effort to keep up morale, and long before that tracker was instituted. Many of us have worked tirelessly behind the scenes for years. The hard work has been done for all "guts and no glory my friend". My behavior and my level of flagging have never changed or slipped even though everything I have done in years past was completely behind the scenes.
The newer additions to the team, I am confident are doing their personal best to keep the site safe as well. We all work hard and we do it for the love of our founder, the love of 7 cups, the love of our teammates and for the love and respect of the leaders in charge of the safety patrol team. This is not a video game for us. We are trying to keep others safe and that includes you my friend! ❤️
You projecting onto others with what could be your intentions, is unfair as well as devalueing the hard work of others. I work hard. I have always said, do not go for a role because of a shiny new badge as the luster of that badge will wear off quickly. You must do it for the love of the role, the site as well as your teammates in an effort to keep up your efforts.......things like your commitment to the team and ergo your quota and your tracker. The intentions you speak of are not mine, I assure you.
I am a busy person in real life also. I make time for this role as well as my other ones. If I could not carve out time for them then I have no business applying for them. My hard work and dedicating and belief in the safety patrol team may even preclude me from taking on other roles. Well, as Abraham Lincoln said "whatever it is that you are, just be a good one". I'm simply happy that I have found a way to contribute and be productive on this site. 😊❤️
Having said that, I know that change can be hard. Perhaps you are continually upset about this issue as change can be hard for anyone. I can understand that. In an effort to help, feel free to reach out to a trained active listener as many could help you with the concept of change and I know it can be really difficult. Change has happened with the safety patrol team having a quota and a tracker (which I see as change in a positive direction). Our founder even mentioned change in our newest community update, dropped a link to help with that and is also working on creating a brand new forum post in regard to the concept of change.
Lastly, an analogy for you. Hypothetically speaking.....would it also be okay for a boy scout to join The Boy Scouts, but refuse to do what is required to receive a badge to sew on his sash? Would it be okay to want the fire badge but refuse to learn how to build one or how to put one out? Would it be okay for a leader to hand out badges like Halloween Candy with out the boy scout showing knowledge, skill, and appreciation for the concept of fire?
Yes, fire can bring warmth, help with cooking food and also to help with thwarting off predators. Also, a fire left burning out of control can do a lot of damage............kind of like not tracking the behavior of those on the safety patrol team, not knowing who is doing what and having innocent people being flagged for no reason.
Those on the safety patrol team need to be monitored and for leaders to know who is on it, who is filling out the forms and who is not. Showing mastery of the skill and monthly helps with the practice effect.
I would encourage you to apply for this so called "coveted" badge again if you would really like to. You can take the training again, review the links we have to go to when in question and also reach out to leaders on the team for help and support of how to do your role effectively and where to look for, for items that should be flagged. You never have to do this alone. We are here to support you and all of your efforts if you would like.

@Marcolite I think it would be great if anyone who was interested in flagging profiles could go through the training and keep that ability. It could be separate from safety patrol team, so two groups 1. Safety patrol team, actively browsing profiles and 2. Casual flaggers.
I personally think everyone should have flagging capabilities but apparently that lead to too many false flags. I think that was tried when the profile feed existed though, I wonder if it would still be a problem.

Indeed
it [sadly] did. All it took was some (a small number of though)
wayward/rogue Listeners that abused the special privledge and thus it
had a negative effect en masse.
In my educated opinion, badges
earned, in general, should not be removed from ones' profile, except for
two very specific/distinct reasons.
#1: The individual
personally requests (for whatever reason/s) removal of a badge or badges
and #2: the special privledge(s) granted by this or that badge was
deemed abused/misused and therefore the badge is removed manually by
someone in authority here.
No automated system (whatever
happened to that human touch) should be left in full/total control of
managing/monitoring badges and then suddenly, and especially, without
any prior notice or indication, remove them due to quotas not being met
(a very ill-concieved decision right from the start, especially for the
Safety Patrol).
Noteworthy, some here will continue to
say/think/assume/insist that it is difficult or not possible or feasible
to simply remove a badge here and there when deemed absolutely
necessary (valid reason given for it) but that is, in actuality/Website
reality, untrue.
Especially since the opportunity to become a
Safety Patrol Member waskindly extended to Members too, I think NOW IS a
better time than ever before to rally for an expedited change i.e.,
looking specifically at what you had posted in your reply, which I
repeat here once again:

Are you interested in joining the Safety Patrol Outreach Team (SPOT)?
Members of SPOT do not always flag profiles as they are trained to PM users to request changes to make their profiles meet site guidelines (e.g. removing a sentence where a listener says they can give advice). We are currently looking at expanding this team so we can minimise the number of flags being processed through the site. Is this something you are interested in helping with? If so, please PM either Rebekah or myself. We'd like to have a much much bigger number of the team being able to outreach!

A suggestion/request, please.
In future could we please post the flag count for all the team members, specially if they've sent the form 5 or more times. I think the transparency helps with motivating the team members to continually give it their best.💖

We can definitely start posting the full leaderboard 😁 Here is the one from September! We will also be making the leaderboard viewable during the month so people can track their quota (a new SP dash will be announced over the next few months).
Note: only correct flags count. E.g. if you submitted two duplicate flags or flagged a profile incorrectly then these would not go towards your overall count (in most cases we reach out to explain why it was deemed an incorrect flag or we announce it under the reminders on the top flagger post each month).

Some reminders...
- Please remember to fill out the flag form found HERE so that you can be in with the chance of being a top flagger (and so we can award you with your cheers) - if you fail to log your flags here then we'll assume you are inactive. We kindly request that everyone aims for 5 flags as a minimum each month. If you are unable to make any flags during a month then please let either tommy/Rebekah know.
- Our role is to flag inappropriate profiles (bios, profile pictures and usernames) - not chat topics or 1-1/group chat messages. If you are in doubt please, check the guide or contact @tommy or @Rebekah.
- We are actively looking for members to join our outreach team. Let us know if you are interested in helping out!
