Mindfulness Poetry
Sight - Trees
look up to the clear blue skies
see the wind blow through the trees
leaves rustling gently
with the gentle breeze
look upon the branches
growing from the trunk
bending, twisting, longer
bark all along
See the shape of the leaves
each of them unique
varying in colour
as they grow up from the tree
observe the wind as it blows
the tree bends and sways
leaves carried upon the breeze
floating far away
watch the leaves as they change
and fall upon the ground
coloured orange, yellow, brown
making room for more to grow
branches become empty
as summer turns to fall
then again they grow
as winter turns to spring
an ever changing pattern
that we can too observe
watching through the seasons
watching as they grow
Sound - Clock
To look upon a rhythmic clock
with it's gentle tic
see the hand move slowly round
red against the white
black with silver attributes
seconds getting stuck
90 seconds to the minute
with how often that it stops
yet that gentle ticking
not annoying though it seems
kind of calming and consistent
reminding me to breathe
in for 3, hold for 2
out again for 5
times of no importance
while the seconds tick on by
times new roman numbers
asking is every clock a quartz?
second hand still getting stuck
not always the same spot
counting every second
never does it quit
calming, but not frustrating
with its gentle tick
@Tenacity37
it seems like you're a born- poet Tenacity and you have wonderful observation ! thanks for sharing this.
Sound - Birds
Close your eyes and listen
what is it you hear?
Birds outside just tweeting
flying through mid air
think that one little bird
calling for its friends
that it wants some company
or perhaps to lay its eggs
think of that little sparrow
landing on the branch
feeding worms to its babies
warm beneath its wings
hear the gentle chirping
amidst the noise upon the road
wonder what the sounds mean
pitch both high and low
hear the gentle reply
no squark or violent shriek
the gentle voice of a sparrow
flying ever free
talking to its neighbours
fellowship mid air
the wind beneath their gentle wings
sound to show what's there
Sight - A book
See the book within your hands
The hardness of the cover
Notice the simplicity
Of children merrily
All the weathered pages
From yellow into brown
Glue from binding worn
Sections falling out
Gentleness is called for
When handling this book
Awfully fragile
Yet to you it means the world
Notice all the pictures
Drawn so delicately
Words don't fill a page
Verses 1, 2, 3
Robert Louis Stevenson
A child's poetry
1968
49 years old
Yet so very precious
Words upon a page
Old as it may be
Yours, now, always
Sight - Books (edited)
see the book within your hands
the hardness of the cover
notice the simplicity
of the front design
all the weathered pages
from yellow into brown
glue from binding worn
sections falling out
gentleness is called for
when handling this book
awfully fragile
yet to you it means the world
the shape of each letter
making words upon a page
how many there may be
each word a different age
notice every margin
how the page pans out
whether its balanced or crowded
the spaces in between
every page makes this book
bound yet delicate
asking you to read it
to see within its words
@Tenacity37 the last stanza ! OMG ! it's so deep and touching ! i love how you put things at the end..it just gives a soulful feelings to end reading it.
Taste - Coffee
coffee, it ignites the senses
nothing bitter, not too sweet
smell the rich aroma
of the morning coffee drink
feel the warmth in your hands
liquid down your throat
curved edge upon your lips
coffee, in this moment
let it sit upon your tongue
taste the richness of the brew
feel the warmth within your mouth
smell the pleasantness of home
smell the hint of coffee beans
breathe into your lungs
let the smell surround you
the taste upon your tongue
the warmth slowly fading
as the air creeps on in
still however pleasant
as you slowly drink it in
feel the cup within your hands
smooth within your grasp
sit within this moment
with your coffee at last
@Tenacity37
All of your poetry is so beautiful! Keep writing, these poems inspire me :)
Feel - Phones
See your phone within your hand
feel the texture of the surface
maybe smooth maybe rough
with buttons or without
feel the smoothness of the screen
although it may be scratched
The charger port on the edge
somewhere to plug it in
feel in vibrate in your pocket
intermittently
the screen flashes on and off
somebody is ringing
to suddenly stop again
after a few more rings
you press the button, tap the screen
the screen against your cheek
returning to your pocket
the smoothness of the edge
sliding ever gently
never falling through
until once more it calls again
you feel it against your body
waiting there patiently
Until once more it rings
@Psalm139
All of those poems are so wonderful, meaningful, mindful..! I'm amazed! The titles of each poem are perfect too! It highlights which sense of our body we are using to relate to each poem! Thank you so much for sharing them here! Did you write all that by yourself?
@peacefulWarrior10
yeah i did, i get to present them on saturday ;)
@Psalm139 Amazing! You're doing very well 😊 Hope to read more from you!
Smell - Ocean
Smell the ocean in the air
salt within the breeze
Fresh but also musky
water lapping freely
the ages of the rocks
salt and minerals
Muskiness of nature
somehow the smell of calm
Smell the leafy moss
tickling your nose
green and alive
growing down below
the wetness of the ocean
lapping at the shore
Savoring the sand
grainy and soft
Smell the hint of rain
as is falls upon the sea
Salt upon your skin
breathing easily
all of these aromas
uniquely intertwined
the rich scented ocean
giving peace to your mind
Taste - Mandarin
Feel the piece within your mouth
Piercing its flesh
Tart upon first impression
The sweetness then floods in
The cold juice upon your tongue
Tasting each bubble
Tongue touches the edge
But it can taste nothing
Only when you bite it
The sweet floods your mouth
The outside of the segment
Rough upon your tongue
Teeth piercing the flesh
Smooth within your mouth
Biting little sections
Savouring the taste
Each segment brings again
The taste of the mandarin
The pith somewhat bitter
To then taste the sweet
Popping every bubble
With the sharpness of your teeth
Three segments left
Each sour and then sweet
Feel - Rain
Look up at the clouded sky
See the droplets form
Water drizzling slowly
Patter on the floor
Droplets forming on your skin
Cold upon the touch
Breathe the condensation in
Falling slow and fast
Feel the wind upon your cheek
Gust upon your face
Gentle or harsh that it may seem
Rain falling fast
Directing the umbrella
Fighting against the wind
Threatening to turn inside out
Letting rain upon your skin
Wind cold and brisk
Shiver at the touch
Pull your wooly jumper on
Slowly warm you up
Feel the rain seep through your shoes
Socks soaked once more
Spongy as you take a step
Finally at your door
Smell - Bakery
Walk in through those two glass doors
Smell the rich baked goods
Let the warmth surround you
Freshly made bread
richness of the pastry
Overwhelms each sense
Slightest hint of icing sugar
Sprinkled on the sweets
Breathe in all the spices
Gently intermingled
Somehow brings you comfort
The aroma of home
Rich butter in the pastry
Salt blended in
Smooth upon your fingertips
Moisture upon your skin
Look at each fresh item
Imagine how it smells
Breathe the scents within them
Let it fill your lungs
Ponder just a while more
Take in those last few breaths
Carry the bakery with you
Comfort within each step
@Tenacity37
