Strengthening Our Community: Listening to LGBTQ+ Voices

User Profile: Heather225
Heather225 February 12th

In these challenging times, we want to remember our commitment to inclusivity and support for all members of our diverse community, especially our LGBTQIA+ folks. We believe that everyone deserves a safe and supportive space to connect, share their experiences, and find the help they need, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other identity.

7 Cups is built on the foundation of empathy and understanding. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected, and heard. We recognize that the struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQIA+ community are unique and deserve specific attention and support, particularly in the face of current events. We are dedicated to providing resources, fostering understanding, and amplifying the voices of our LGBTQIA+ members.

We know that allyship is an ongoing process, and we are constantly learning and growing. We encourage open and honest conversations about how we can better support our LGBTQIA+ community within 7 Cups and beyond. We value your feedback and insights as we continue this journey together.

To all of you within our LGBTQIA+ family:

What can the community do to better hear and support you during these difficult times?
What are some things you wish allies understood? How can we express this?

What would you like the community to know about
LGBTQIA+ and beyond?

Please answer any of the above. Your responses will be packaged up in a new post dedicated to community awareness to ensure we, as a collective community, are doing right by one another.

@Heather225

Thank you for this post!

Im a proud member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and if there is one thing i wish people understood more, it would be that its not very appropriate to ask a trans person what their gender assinged at birth is or whats in their pants. And also that GENDER IS NOT BINARY✌️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

I'll end my message by adding that no matter who you are, you are LOVED, you are SEEN and you are VALID❤️

Have a wonderful day everyone🫂✨️

@Heather225 not all of us have labels. not all of us have it all figured out and even when we do it changes. sexuality, gender it moves around, its fluid.  For some people it's mostly the same their whole lives while other feel different every week. Its okay to be unsure of your identity because you will probably spend a lot of time feeling like that but that doesn't make you less queer, less valid or less deserving of acceptance and support. love yall 💙

I wish people understood that gender is a spectrum, not binary, and not always static for everyone. Also not everyone has words to describe their gender. I wish people would ask for pronouns instead of assuming.

I feel like this should go out to everyone but...

gender is more then just something ¨ down there ¨

sure, your born a girl or boy but it shouldn´t define you if someone wants to be trans, non-binary, agender, etc.

i wish homophobes knew that it would help a lot 😭

being born a male or female is like a base gender to me, you start off with either one and you can change it to whatever you want, or you choose not to and thats perfectly ok :)

@Heather225 I wish people understood that LGBT rights are not just about saying "I support you": it means taking a political stance, and getting involved in political action. It means recognizing who is hurting us and how, which rights and opportunities are taken away from us at all levels (jobs, housing, healthcare...), and getting involved in community mutual support as well as political action. It's not all about "love is love" and drawing rainbows: reality is much harsher, and it requires radical support

What can the community do to better hear and support you during these difficult times?

We need each other to support each other MORE than ever. How? Not only check in on each other of how each is doing, but to also volunteer/support local LGBTQ+ organizations. Collaborating & joining forces as "United, we stand; Divided, we fall".

What are some things you wish allies understood? How can we express this?

Support & stand beside us, as we battle (again), to get back our 'human rights'. Stand up,  call out &  question your elected representatives. Volunteer & support your local LGBTQ+ organization.

'Actions speak louder than words'.

What would you like the community to know about
LGBTQIA+ and beyond?

@Heather225

What can the community do to better hear and support you during these difficult times?

1) Use inclusive language, use people's preferred pronouns and gender identities. 2) Education - learn about LGBTQ+ issues and experiences, enhanced sensitivity training for Executive/Leadership/Listeners, etc. 3) Listen - listen to LGBTQ+ perople experiences and amplify their voices. 4) Advocate - advocate LGBTQ+ rights and inclusive policies. 5) Challenge discrimination - including misconceptions and stigma. 6) Build safe spaces -create/re-instate safe spaces for LGBTQ+ members. 7) Maintain/ more awareness across the  7 Cups platform.

What are some things you wish allies understood? How can we express this?

See above.
