Course 4. Foundational Leadership Principles: (Discussion #4) Lead Within the Community

Welcome back, crew! We've discussed leading yourself and others. Let's talk about leading ÃÂ within the community!
A car is a ÃÂ system that has different levels of components. Each component is a system in itself like engine, accelerator, gears, clutch, tires, seats, front deck, mirrors, and so on. Each of these components is also a system too. But when they are integrated into one big system, it comprises the bigger picture as a car which facilitates movement from one place to another. ÃÂ
Similarly, 7Cups is a system. A system of small systems that have their own defined set of goals but contributing towards a bigger goal (community goal).
When you are a lead of a project, you are not just leading your own project but also within the community as well. Examples: Verified Listener Program, Active Listening Tests, Listener Coaching, Quality Mentor, Listener Support Chat Rooms, and so on are individual projects that contribute to supporting a user to become a better listener to support the member they listen to and the community at large. Everyone is functioning as an integral part of the system. ÃÂ
To ensure the smooth operation of your system and the whole system, you need to collaborate with other community and project leaders to problem solve and be well synced. ÃÂ
Everything is interlinked and interconnected. You are part of the community and leading within the community. And, when everyone collectively gathers together to achieve one purpose, we are cultivating a sense of community solidarity.

I am contributing to the community as an individual by listening to members in 1-1 conversations. I am contributing as a team by being a listener coach by helping to make sure that everyone who submits a coaching request gets a response. I am contributing within the community by being a kind and known presence in the listener rooms providing support and conversations in the LSR and listener sharing circles.

I am part of this community by doing my very best to help 7cups to grow so we can provide even more emotional support to those who need and want it.
As a listener I am doing my best to help others feel understood and not alone.
As a team I am moderating in 3 different rooms with other mods to offer chat time and discussion time to others.

How I am part of this community and how I am contributing as an individual, as a team, and within the community.
I am part of two operational areas of 7 Cups:
1-to-1 chats in which I am contributing as an individual by helping members directly, as part of Listener team by keeping this service running 24/7 aiming to keep standards of quality, and to the community as this 1-to-1 service is a central part of 7 Cups, which is the main image projected by 7 Cups as a whole to the external world, and whose quality mostly determines its reputation worldwide.
The other area is within the “7 Cups Communities”. I am Forum Supporter at the Trauma Support community. In the forums and roles I am responsible for, I am contributing as an individual by helping members directly and building a healing subcommunity so members with the same problem interact and help each others heal. As a team we discuss and agree on solutions to specific problems that arise, make sure the whole Subcommunity works properly, forums are alive, all members get answered, and Events take place regularly, that enliven the community. Within 7 Cups as a whole community, this work contributes to enliven and keep running a component of the “7 Cups Communities”, an area that provides great services to its participants, and has a huge potential to be scaled up as a tool for massive but effective emotional support.

I'm part of this community as a chat supporter and peer supporter. As an individual I help members and contribute to 7 cups main goal, as a team we offer help to other listeners who have questions or who need to talk. Within the community we work with other teams towards 7 cups best functioning and within its values.

I'm still working on being an active member of this community, with school starting up again it's getting harder to balance everything all at once, but I am getting there. I contribute as an individual by still talking to some of the members when they need someone and asking questions when I have them. I contribute as a team member by taking my role seriously and talking to other listeners for feedback or for a friendly conversation. Again, I am still finding ways to contribute within the community, but I have joined and particpated in some chat rooms as a start!

An example of how I am part of the community. :- I value the goals and mission statement of 7 cups. I contribute with ethics and goals on my mind.
As an individual, I started as a Listener. To support my team I applied to become the Listener Coach. I have been diligently been doing this role and lhave recently become the quality mentor leader. I will be focussing to contribute to the 7cups community.

I am a part of the Safety Patrol Team! As an individual, I am taking the steps to contribute to keeping the site a safe place for the members! As a team, we all take little steps which leads to the bigger goal of a clean website! Within the community, we are just one of the groups that helps keep 7 Cups running as a whole!
