The first 3 conversations helped us set the foundation for this discussion. The idea that the problem is the path or the obstacle is the way comes from the Stoics. If interested, I also recommend this book as a good overview of stoic thinking. I think there is a tremendous amount of wisdom in these ancient ideas. I'm glad to see much of it resurfacing now. ÃÃÂ

This disucssion is the most important discussion in this course. This is the core insight to learn for your own personal and professional development as well as the key insight that will continue to help us grow and evolve at 7 Cups. Please really take your time to think through these ideas. They matter and they are meaningful. These ideas can help change the trajectory of your life.

Here are the questions:

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread. ÃÃÂ

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video. ÃÃÂ

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.

The only way to overcome denial is to face your problems and learn to truly care for other people.

Problems have disguised value. We struggle to see problems as valuable because we are too busy trying to avoid or ignore them.

Problems break down our denial, free us from distractions and teach us to ask for help.

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

-We don't control what happens to us, we control how we respond to what happens to us

-Through this thought process, there is no such thing as a setback or problem

-There's simply an opportunity to do something different

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.

- It is possible to reframe how we see problems, and come to realise that they can in fact be a gift that helps us to grow.

- Experiencing problems and feeling the discomfort they cause helps us to understand other people's problems and discomfort and increases our compassion and desire to be there for others.

- Problems can help combat denial. This happens when problems get big enough to significantly affect our lives and we can no longer deny that they are there, we are forced to accept that there is a problem and take action to find a solution.

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

- Perception - How we see the obstacle can define how it influences us. If we think of something as negative, it is more likely to have a negative impact on us.

- Action - We must take action to overcome the problem. We can use any and all resources available to us to work at the obstacle until we overcome it.

- Will - We need inner strength in order to accept that there are always going to be things that are outside our control.

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.

Denial is increased by distractive systems.

Breaking free if an important step in being a leader so we are not caught in denial

problems help us grow by breaking down our denial. They free us from the distraction systems. They teach us to ask for help. They help us level up. They teach us how to authentically care for other people.

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video. Perception-how we see a situation controls the options we have to deal with it, , Action - the obstacle is the path and can make us ingenuity and creativity. and Will-look at all the things we do not control.

1) 1) The problems that we had faced before have taught us to seek help from others and learned something from it.
2) It's not a regret, sadness and disappointment to face our problems. If the results are not something we're not expected to meet, I'm sure there's a blessing in disguise.
3)We will reach a certain points in denying our problems where we'll need to brave ourselves to face them.

2) 1) perception- how we look towards our problems whether on negative or positive perspectives.
2) actions- how we will react and what we will do about it.
3)will- the willingness of us to accept the outcomes after we take actions to solve our problem.

What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you?

1. Problems can be loud, exhausting, and frustrating, but if we take time to work through them, we end up gaining valuable insight about our lives and the way we live.

2. Problems break through the wall of our denial, free us from the distractions we have chained ourselves to, and teach us to reach out for help. They provide space for us to learn about the cracks and weaknesses in our lives, and push us to find real solutions for them by asking other people for help, instead of ignoring them and pretending they don't exist.

3. Problems teach us empathy and compassion. They teach us how to truly care for someone who has been through rough times by opening our eyes to how tough these challenenges can really be. They motivate us to care for others on a deeper level, to pay forward the care we were given, or or provide the care we would have wanted. They help us connect with one another meaningfully and support each other through the problems of life

In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

1. Perception. This is the way we view the problems in our lives. If we see them as obstacles and annoying impediments that do nothing but hold us back, or if we see them as simply something to avoid or overcome as quickly as possible, then we end up getting unnecessarily upset over something we can't even control. Instead, we can let go of the frustration over something we can't change, and start viewing the problem as an opportunity for change and learning. If we can't change it, we might as well learn what we can from it and move on. This helps us let go of the negative emotions and feel lighter and more peaceful about our circumstances in life

2. Action. This refers to actively focusing on the things within our circle of influence, and changing what we can change. We can put the things we learnt into action, and come up with solutions and ideas to innovatively overcome the challenge in front of us. We can hence move on and work on improving ourselves, and how we respond to similar situations in future.

3. Will. This refers to the way we react emotionally to the things we cannot control. This means acknowledging that things are just going to be bad sometimes, and we can learn to handle these situations with strength and resilience instead of allowing them to ruin our day. We can learn to take things in our stride, and not be beaten down internally so easily by the obstacles in our path. This allows us to accept and embrace the journey that life takes us on, even if it is not what we wanted.

1. Three key points that stand out to me about chapter 4 are: appreciating what our problems and struggles can teach us, the importance of striving to help one another, and always seeking opportunities to grow from our experiences—whether positive or negative.

2. The three key components that Holiday describes are:

- A core tenet of stoicism is to reframe things not as obstacles but as opportunities. This is Perception.

- Next, it is valuable to exercise persistence and creativity in order to face whatever opportunity we’ve now encountered. This is Action.

- Finally, we accept what we can and cannot control, and develop our attitude towards these uncontrollable things. This is Will.

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.

- Problems need to be dealt with and not avoided, as that will only build up a wall full of unresolved issues, which will eventually lead to a tough snap.

- It is extremely important to keep yourself as genuine and as caring as possible towards others!

- Asking for help is okay, we all need and deserve support sometimes through our lives; that does not make us less worthy or weak at all!

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

- Perception: How we view the situation and how our perspectives impact our well-being essentially.

- Action: Using out creativity and strength to find ways to overcome our problems.

- Will: Differentiating `controllables` from `uncontrollable` and eliminating what we have no control over. This will make us focus all our mental strength on things we can improve ourselves without depending on any other external factors, whilst keeping ourselves motivated into getting better.

1. 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to me:
a. problems teach us to ask for help - without problems, we might not know what difficulties are and when we should look for outside sources (help) to overcome problems
b. problems help us level up - when we solve the problems, we've got new skills and/or we mastered our current abilities better
c. problems teach us how to authentically care for other people - as we are learning how we could struggle with our problems, we would realize how it does to everyone, too. Eventually, we know how to care about others, be kind and be empathetic to others.

Problems aren't obstacles, problems are actually disguised ways which help us to be better and stronger persons.

2. Watched the overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.
Identifying and describing the 3 key components he outlined in the video:

a. Perception - what we see is how it is becomes.
b. Action - what we want to do to overcome our problems (with determination, persistence, and abilities)
c. Will - how we realize, understand and embrace the things we can't control

"Stoicism is the idea that in everything that happens to us there's a chance to practice excellence, to practice virtue, to improve our position in life."

@GlenM

What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you?

1. Problems help you level up. They help you move forward, and can show you that you are stronger than you realized.

2. Problems are gifts. They can have disguised value, and can be very helpful and should be treasured.

3. Problems reach you to ask for help. They teach you humanity, and teach you that handling on your own isn't an option. I feel like this could strengthen relationships, and decrease the stereotypes around asking for help.

Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

1. Action: what do we do, or how do we react to the problem? How do we face the problem, to try and solve it? You can respond with creativity and persistence and ingenuity, and use what you have to the best of your ability.

2. Perception: how we look at/view the world, and at problems. Do we see it in a negative way, or as an opportunity? The story you tell yourself about that thing can really impact on what thing will be.

3. Will: Looking at the things that we cannot control, and accepting it, and then working on building inner strength.

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you.

1. Problems teach us to be vulnerable and open up to others and help us to care for others.

2. Most problems can not be solved on our own, which teaches us to reach out for help.

3. Problems are actually valuable and hiding from our problems keeps us from important life lessons. We grow when we work through and face our problems.

2. please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

1. Perception - How we see the problem

2. Action - what you will do about your problem

3. Will - Thingw we cannot control
