Several of us wrote 7 Cups for the Searching Soul back in 2016. It outlines some of the key lessons we learned in our community along the way. To begin, read through the Introduction and Chapter 1. If you don't have the book, then you can download it for free on Amazon here. If you do not have access to Amazon please download it here. Once done reading, post here to earn the soul searcher  badge.
In this thread, please answer the following questions:
1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?  Â
3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

@GlenM
I read the book a year ago, but I forgot about many things, so I am grateful that you brought it up again!
1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
What stood out to me most was, that everyone can do it. It's never easy and every path is individual, but we can achieve so much more than we think. And knowing that someone believes in you can make it a whole lot easier. It gives us strength, and especially as listeners in leading positions, we need that strength. So thank you for that amazing introduction!
2. What was the most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?
That we have to ask for help when we need it, as there can only be a good outcome of it. There is no shame in asking for help. In fact, the chances that we will receive help, get better and be able to help others as well are increasing!
3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea
that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill
that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?
We can show them that asking for help will make us stronger in the end. That it will build a community, and that there is no shame in it.
Heya you, reading this. You are awesome, and you deserve to get all the help you might need. I'll be proud when you find the courage to ask for it, because I know how difficult it is 💙

7 cups of Tea by Lu Tong !!
Shutting oneself out never helps and leads to no solutions to one's problems. Instead reaching out for help , opening up and sharing can affect a lot of people positively including yourself leading to more encouragement. A community shouldn't be closed but rather be embraced with openness.
We can be more open and honest and make others feel loved and heard. We must help them to realize that shutting off can never be an option and in order to heal openness is very important . We must make them feel that they are not alone and that there are people who genuinely care for them and are concerned about their well being so they should never be hesitant to ask for help.
@PhoenixTears5972
Love the idea of embracing openness, very much agree it's importance.
@GlenM
1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
How much belief there is that everyone can change, grow, make mistakes etc. It felt very powerful and I felt a lot of gratitude to this person who fully believes in me.
2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?  Â
How most people are embarressed to ask for help and how that embaressement seeps into your pores until you become a 'zombie'. I dislike asking for help in a personal way (work/volunteering is fine!) and this story made me realise how normal it is to make mistakes and need support sometimes in your growth.
3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea
that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill
that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?
Leading by example, asking for the help of the community in general especially in chatrooms. Signposting to someone else who may have more experience/knowledge of a certain subject. Being honest when you make a mistake and trying to rectify it with grace. I think as a peer support site it's quite clear that we've all made mistakes or might have regrets and it's one of the many reasons I love this place!
@gentleFox20
I absolutely agree with you that the knowledge that everyone on 7 Cups has their own story with their own mistakes, learning experiences, and regrets, makes it so wonderful. We're all humans here, not robots or zombies, that makes this place so special.
@GlenM
The thing that stood out to me the most is the mention of growth not being a linear process. I identify with this a lot.
The most important lesson I learned from Chapter 1 was that need forces you to face your problems and ask for help in solving them. Needs and desires are the thing that motivate every action we take, and it is healthy to listen to these needs and to acknowledge them, especially when we need help.
In order for people to become comfortable with the idea of experiencing needs, it is paramount that we make it normal and accepted. Leaders and other people with attention on them, or with some degree of authority, need to demonstrate that they have needs as well. They need to be living examples that we are all allowed to be human, and that people will, in most cases, not reprimand or punish us for being human.
@Glue
I absolutely agree with you that we as leaders need to show that we have needs as well. I also like your thought, that a need can be seen as the motivation to face a problem and grow.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
It's a beautiful book I gotta say. The metaphor is really impressive. But what really stood out to me is that the chapter reveals that fear makes us put up defenses. I happened to read the idea on a blog but didn't understand. The book made it really clear to me now.
2. What was the most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?
The most important lesson I learned is that not to be afraid to ask for help. There might be social stress but one gotta risk it. The other thing is that one has to face the fear instead of hiding away it.
3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?
I believe that it's important to create a community of non-judgment. That is, to have a community where no one would criticize you for making mistakes. It didn't mean to let one make mistakes over and over without caring. Instead, it provides a supportive environment so that one can find the strength within, gain the courage to improve themselves, and thus help others.
@Glencia89
I think your point, that we need to build a community where we don't judge it when someone makes a mistake, is very important. If we succeed to build such an environment, everyone can comfortably ask for help, since now knowing how to do something is perfectly okay.
@GlenM
1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
This sentences really resonated in me: "Your life makes sense. You make sense in
the larger story of your life." While I see the beauty and meaning in other people lives, I often find myself questioning the meaning of my own life. I think, the reminder, that everything might make sense in the larger picture, even if you can't see it at the moment, is really important.
2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?  Â
We need to focus on trust, hope, and love to be able to live a life together, where the virus of exclusion and isolation can't spread further. Personally, I'll have to work on trusting others and life in general.
3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?
I think, being vulnerable as leaders, taking self-care breaks, asking for peer support when we need it etc. can help others to see that they are allowed to ask for help without looking weak.
@GlenM
1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
That the ancorans always had the virus in there community, but they never noticed until it got larger and started to take over hosts
2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)? Like every community, trial and error was developed, with love and hope we can overcome anything and the poisons we have in this life by working together to fix the problems into solutions, trusting one another, and having hope it will happen.
3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger? By demonstrating the very said thing, asking for help acknowledging that its ok to ask for help.
@GlenM
What was the thing that stood out most in the introduction? That life isn’t crystal clear and straight forward, and that’s okay. That in other words, it doesn’t matter where you come from, but where you are going on your growth journey. I loved how despite being a book for anyone, it felt so personal, a talkative, dialogue rather than strict instructions, a gentle support to help me on my growth path. Beautiful poem too.
Important lesson in chapter 1 – that controlling fear doesn’t work, and isn’t the answer! It causes quiet suffering and pain. Concentration should be moved elsewhere. That it is okay to ask for help, you shouldn’t be embarrassed.
Experiencing need is okay – We can be more open and talk about things, before they get unbearable. We can have good communication links, so that they are both way and there is no need for guilt. We can make a sense of security, and safety so that people feel that experiencing the need for it is okay.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
I am always a fan of TEA. Anytime on any day I would never say NO to TEA. I enjoy it fully. However, after reading the first intro on the "Essence of 7Cups" . I started to enjoy every sip of team, understanding and analysing the meaning of 7cups.
2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?
The most important rule is to believe that there is always chance for us to learn, give knowledge , help, again learn, ask for help etc. It's a cycle. Never limit yourself. From the story- Wealth is not all. This World is mostly running to make wealth and only Wealth. While ding this, we leave behind family, relationships, friends, love , etc. Of-course wealth is required but not the ONLY THING required. In life we need to have three main things- TRUST, HOPE & LOVE. All are inter-related. We need to be always calm and down to earth so that we have stairs always to climb. Never forget from where we start the journey. Once that happens, we get back again from where we started.
3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?
TO ask for help- You need to sacrifice ONE THING- The " I " attitude to be shed down. You can be and should be proud of yourself. But once you have this feeling that " I am " there stops the stairs to learning. As we think "we have conquered the World" which limits us. Always be down to earth , believe that each and everyone has unique experiences and from every experience we tend to learn, and then help others to learn this principle and go on. The real meaning of being Wealthy is not by MONEY. Its about the knowledge and the ability of you to help those in need.
By making others understand this principle - that asking for help or support is never a sin. Its a path of growth and once you know this secret keep sharing this.
