Several of us wrote 7 Cups for the Searching Soul back in 2016. It outlines some of the key lessons we learned in our community along the way. To begin, read through the Introduction and Chapter 1. If you don't have the book, then you can download it for free on Amazon here. If you do not have access to Amazon please download it here. Once done reading, post here to earn the soul searcher  badge.

In this thread, please answer the following questions:

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?  Â

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

1-What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

The introduction was warm and understanding and gave us the wherewithal to move from anxiety and fear to the life your heart desires. It was very encouraging to the readers.

2-What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (chapter 1)?

The most important lesson I learned from Ancora (Chapter 1) is that mental viruses like fear and pain don't solve the problem, but increase their weight in our minds. The more we try to escape from their pain and fear, the more it spreads! it's difficult to admit to our fears and ask for help.

3-How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help- or experiencing need- is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

We need to face our problems and seek help if necessary. Once you have faced your problems you can help others. Being ashamed to admit that you have a problem, stops you from asking for help. If you cannot ask for it, you cannot get it! Without help, we may find it difficult to help others

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

The thing that stood out to me most in the introduction is that " my life makes sense" and a fresh start from the next page of the introduction i.e, the brand new direction.

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?

The most important lesson I learned from the story of Ancora is that we all feel embarrassed when we feel the need to ask for help so we avoid doing it and suffer from within and in the end, we become nothing but a zombie. We lose all the feelings of compassion and love. We are not willing to help others and we become rigid in our approach. Even if it's embarrassing we should ask for help when we are in need of it. It would keep us human with feelings of love, trust, hope and compassion.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow strong?

We can learn and help others get more comfortable with this idea by showing love and compassion towards others and helping them whenever we see others in need of help and distress. We can ask others if they need anything or help from us. This would make them feel less embarrassed and more comfortable with this idea.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

There were three main points basically focusing on the reader, the journey of the individual.

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?

I learned in chapter 1 from the story of Ancora that there was a virus ‘zombie like’. The virus thrives in a state of fear, as it grows it becomes unmanageable. The reason it grows because of limited love and compassion, this was found among the wealthy. When fear is faced with the aid of others, it brings resilience. Also, in the book they relate the Ancorans to real life people, the situation is similar. People of certain status (wealthy) should not experience pain and they do not need anyone, however, people who are poorer has need, which they need help and once they get help, are able to help others.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

We can learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help is a strength or a skill by addressing that it is not something to be ashamed about. Firstly, when we do not want any help and feel we can do it all, that is when we have too much pride. One man strength is never enough, at times, we all need someone to help us through and it really takes sometimes bravery to admit that we need help.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

I think the opening story is very relevant to today's world. It's all too common to see people shut out and ignore issues, living within their own bubble to avoid acknowledging hardships that may not affect them directly at the time. Ignorance is bliss.

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?

You can't just mask an issue. Short-term relief doesn't solve a problem, it just pushes it to later. The more you put something off, the more it will end up affecting you once the masking wears off.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

It's important to realize that everybody has problems, regardless of what it looks like on the surface. You shouldn't feel ashamed about how you feel, because everyone feels the same way sometimes.

I fully agree, short term relief might feel good for a moment, but it won't solve anything. Thank you for this post! 💙

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

(Welcome): Hard items that can be dropped.

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?  Â

A problem will always be there if you just bury it. You've got to dig it up and resolve it. Live with it. And Accept it.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

As a few of my family members have told me many times.. We cannot do this alone(as humans). I used to try, and struggle through it, but with experience I can say that we are all humans here, and for the most part, want each other to succeed. On the learning side of others, I suppose just making it emotionally and mentally easy going on them. Not forcing, but planting a seed that when the time is right, they will water and in that time. They could realize that, hey!, help isn't all that bad.

Acceptance is definitely important when it comes to issues you can't solve in the moment. By accepting it, the solution might even come closer 😇

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

It was very jarringly clear where the story was leading, so that kind of spoiled it for me. There were also a few logical holes that stood out to me, although I understand what the story is trying to say, it felt unnatural.

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?

We need to help each other and forge caring connections to survive and thrive.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

Here I have to disagree with the premise that asking for help/experiencing need is a strength or a skill. I see it as a capacity to tolerate and express that need. When something is a need there is no need to cloak it in another name to make it seem prettier. A need is a need, if you don't fulfil it, you live below the threshold for happiness. For people who feel satisfied with their current level of happiness, they're by all means free to go ahead with how they're living.

Following that though, I will say that regardless of what it is called, it is something that must necessarily be developed to some extent. One very common thing we can do (and probably already do) is offer a safe space for them to digest their emotions however they want, whether it is through speaking or not. Shaming/judging others will always exist, unfortunately, and we do it more often than we're comfortable thinking about, but that's only human. Despite that, we can specifically set apart a specific time or place to consciously treat people without judgement.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?
The idea that personal growth is challenging but oh so worth it.

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?
The importance of trust, hope, and love. Caring for one another makes us stronger in a way that money can't.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?
By modeling the behavior ourselves and by offering to lend a hand whenever possible.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

That the authors really made an effort to tailor a book to help a broad range of people confront their problems.

2. What was the most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?

I learned that we really need to be pushed to a wall to seek answers and support for our problems. The advanced countries seem to be ashamed to ask for help and therefore their problems grow compared to poorer nations.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

It is a hard ask. Many people believe that we should not show weaknesses and interpret needed help as admitting to their weaknesses. If we can help people realize that seeking help and helping others is a strength, then this could be the key to getting more help for people when they need it.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

That mistakes are an inevitable part of growth. And growth isn't easy, because as human beings, we are bound to make a lot of mistakes. The key is to accept that mistakes are okay and its important to not waste your precious time beating yourself up, just pick yourself self by learning from the mistakes and take a step forward. There's life ahead waiting for you!

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?

I have learned that compassion and kindness are a true healer, it does not matter if you have tons of wealth but if you aren't compassionate and kind, healing is far from possible. I would also highlight the importance of asking for help and not being ashamed for it, because its part of a healing cycle when you ask for help and receive it, you would feel better and want to help others. That's how the healing happens.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

Firstly, it comes from within oneself to self - reflect and realize the importance of reaching out for help, and not be in denial and accustomed to sufferings. It takes one to be courageous in order to show their vulnerability by not being afraid or ashamed to reach out for help. Eventually, people would take that as an example and implement it as well. Basically it just comes from taking an initiative to ask for help , and being compassionate and kind to offer help for those in need.

1. What was the thing that stood out to you most in the introduction?

I really liked how to be talking to me directly, from getting that cup of tea (which I did!) to warning that things might take time and I would need to reflect, I really liked the personal narrative.

2. What was  most important lesson you learned from the story of Ancora (Chapter 1)?  Â

To ask for help when I need to, and to support others who are struggle and work together to reach a common goal.

3. How can we learn and help others get more comfortable with the idea that asking for help - or experiencing need - is a strength or a skill that we need to develop to help one another grow stronger?

By removing the stigma, it is okay to ask for help, there is no shame in that, and that is how we develop as listeners
