Course 2: Becoming a 7 Cups Leader - (Discussion #11) Avoiding Burnout
7 Cups is founded on a community of passionate volunteers who lovingly dedicate their time to providing support.
You may face what is called burnout during your journey. You may have already faced this in your real life. Burnout is very real and must be recognized. You can't help fuel someone else when your tank is empty, after all!
To address and learn about burnout, we have created a slidedeck on how to avoid burnout.
Activity: Please read it through and in the replies, tell us what you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
Then, please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!
After completing the course quiz, please proceed to this post!
This post is brought to you by the Leadership Development Program Team, find out more information about the program here.

One thing I learned is to remember my “why.” I think this is really important, because 7cups should be a passion, not a chore, and we don’t want it turning into one.
I will be mindful to meet my physical needs. I will set strict boundaries for myself in terms of time and the amount of work I take on. I will also switch between tasks to provide myself some variety, and avoid tiring my brain out. I will also communicate my needs to team members and leaders.
@Heather225
Hello there,
I learned about another aspect of The importance of The selfcare. Knowing Where to stop and setting our boundaries and taking breaks might help as Well, and that is What i am gonna do.
Sending strenght and energy!
Lots of love,
🌸Hana🌸
@Livingtohelplive setting boundaries is very important to preventing burnout :) <3 when we don't set them, we are not entirely caring for ourselves and remembering that we need to set expectations as well in order to help others set expectations that we can meet
@Livingtohelplive
admirable
@Heather225
burnout can contribute to developing attachments if we work too hard and don't remember to take regular breaks <3 to stay healthy and avoid burnout, i will continue to take breaks from cups on thursday and weekends if i am busy :) i will make sure to have fun sometimes as well when i am super busy and to appreciate myself !
@rrretsuko
Taking self care from 7cups, its hard, I know it is, but its worth it and planning out days when we don't log on is very healthy and contributing to your self care
Please read it through and in the replies, tell us what you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
Ans. Self care is most important. For staying healthy and avoiding burnout, i will be more accountable for keeping myself energetic as my works saves lives.
@rriyad
I agree Self-Care is really important. What kind of self-care are you planning to do when you start to feel the burnout?
@Heather225
To stay healthy I will avoid burnout by taking regular breaks reading and sleeping
taking breaks sleeping and reading is a nice way to recharge and take care of self
What did you learn about self-care?
I learned that self-care is really important and it's okie and good to practice self-care. Neglecting ourselves prevents us from taking care of members and being positive leaders. If I notice that I'm experiencing burnout, I should start to take steps to get better and put myself first. I’ve learned that we are the best judge of our own personal limits and that it's okie to say no and breaks when we feel that we have exceeded our limits.
What ways can you prevent burn out:
Prioritizes simple things like sleep, eating, alone time, and drinking water. Setting boundaries with members and time spent on cups. Making sure you are continuing to work on the balance in your life and that the things that you are spending your time on you are passionate about rather than draining.
@Estrellitaa
You have a great post here I'm so glad that you have a plan for dealing with burnout.
Hello how is everyone 🤗
I have learned that burnout is a state of stress that leads to many consequences on a psychological and physical level, and this does not prevent me from continuing to learn, knowledge and growth, but also I must take care of myself when I feel burnout because it leads to a decrease in passion in the performance of the work that I do with it.
@Zahraa000
Hi great statement. What are you going to do if you start to feel burnout?
@Zahraa000 Burnout can really impact our work and performance
What I learned is Self-Care is the most important thing that you can do for yourself and if I’m not taking care of myself, I can’t listen to the members or anyone. What I’ll do to avoid burnout is make sure that I’m not taking on too much and that when I start to get overwhelmed, I’ll speak up and let someone know.
@glowingSoul93
Great response!!
@Heather225
As I was looking at the slides, I learned that there was a correlation between depression and burnout. To stay healthy and avoid burnout, I will take time for myself and practice self care.
@NoelleListens
This is also something that will help me too! I'm happy you realized that !
@NoelleListens
Yes, self-care is the key word. I wish I was bullet proof and didn’t get burnout so that I could continue to help others, but I guess that is not possible. We are all human.
@Heather225
I have learned that my work does save lives, especially via working with purpose and stepping up to help others. I have also learned the important of growing through the path of problems. Furthermore, I have learned that it’s important to try my very best to avoid burnout! I will complete daily journaling, check-ins with myself, and taking computer breaks as needed!
@magicmango26
rightly put
@magicmango26
Yes, journaling is a nice habit to develop
@magicmango26
Agreed Mango.
@magicmango26
Daily journaling is a great way to reflect. It is also amazing to think that we are actually saving lives just by listening to their problems when other people don’t have the time to do so. I get so inspired by the members ability to reach out to people when they need help. Something that I am also learning myself.
@magicmango26
Daily journaling sounds like a really nice way of self-care. You are doing amazinggg! 💚
