Course 2: Becoming a 7 Cups Leader - (Discussion #11) Avoiding Burnout
7 Cups is founded on a community of passionate volunteers who lovingly dedicate their time to providing support.
You may face what is called burnout during your journey. You may have already faced this in your real life. Burnout is very real and must be recognized. You can't help fuel someone else when your tank is empty, after all!
To address and learn about burnout, we have created a slidedeck on how to avoid burnout.
Activity: Please read it through and in the replies, tell us what you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
Then, please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!
After completing the course quiz, please proceed to this post!
This post is brought to you by the Leadership Development Program Team, find out more information about the program here.

Main thing is to remember my WHY, that work as volunteer saves lives.
I learnt what is burnout and its signs (cynicism, exhaustation, lack of effectiveness), its physical and mental symptoms. Learnt about advices how to overcome burnout. Learnt about reflecting how one come across to a team to not make members derail a team. Learnt about bad and good leader's signs, and what to do to stop being a bad leader and about further steps.
I'd take care about symptoms if I start feeling bad of what I do by looking at what causes these signs. I'd start to get my time away for short breaks or longer breaks, just to self-care. I'd overlook on how much roles I took and probably would step down from some of them or would reduce my volume of work.
Furthermore, I would re-assess and re-think about my burnout, boundaries I've set and would communicate with others if I took too much and needed a break. And again, keeping fresh look on things and remembering my why is important.

I further learnt that self care is important in avoiding burn out , I will improve how I take care of myself
@Heather225
What I learned:
Burnout is a state of chronic stress which can lead to cynicism, mental fatigue, and physical exhaustion. It can lead to an unhealthy work environment which can become an obstacle in our aim to create a supportive community.
What I will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout:
I would follow a self-care routine and reflect on my thoughts and emotions to analyze any patterns of burnout symptoms.
@gigantCloud92
That's a great summary of what the deck said. I agree too, it's important to sometimes sit back and reflect on our emotions and practice self care, when needed ❤
@gigantCloud92
I agree! Good luck with your journey ahead!
@Heather225
thankyou for the extensive guide on self care and burn out ! it was a good reminder about what burnout is and what are the signs of it , it is great to know that self care is indeed so important and we all must acknowledge our needs of it .
I'll try not to procrastinate on self care breaks and take them whenever I need it, I'll continue to remind myself that I am doing good here and that i come first too ❤
@Heather225 Burnout is incredibly real and can be hard on someone. It comes quick and it is quite hard to help or contribute when you are burned out. I continuously take self-care every weekend to ensure I am giving myself a break from 7 Cups and focus on myself. I also create healthy boundaries for myself and cups.

I learnt that self care is important and that it is beneficial to ones health.
I will stay healthy and avoid burnout by taking time out for myself. I will do a little bit just for myself like going on a nice walk or having a bath this way it can help to avoid any burnouts
@Rhlexia520

I learnt that there are times where we need to step back from our roles and ask if we're okay with the workload or if this willl lead to burn out eventually because its too much stress
I will stay healthy and avoid burnout by getting enough sleep, scheduling time to be on 7cups and lots of self care.
@Heather225 In order to avoid burnout, I take breaks regularly: ) great slideshow!
