Hello everyone,
If you are reading this, it means you have come a long way in your leadership training. Kudos to you for all the effort and resilience you have shown! It is amazing how you all are open to learning and adapting to new environments: the environment of leadership!
Before we zoom in and talk more about learning and adapting, lets zoom back out first and talk about how you feel about leadership. Regardless of how you see yourself, there is a leader within you. The one who visualizes how things could have run in a better way if you were in the leading spot. Leading spot here means:
A desire for change;
Believing you got the abilities to make it happen;
Visualizing success while keeping in mind the bigger picture.
To lead others effectively, you need a good blend of 4 broad competencies area
If you have a surplus amount of knowledge on how to lead but not a good emotional quotient (EQ), you will find it hard to tackle leadership challenges. Having a good EQ is as important as having the right skills, and if you have skills but not the right attitude and values, you won't be able to achieve your full potential as a leader. Your attitude and values impact how others view you as a leader. We need an alignment in all 4 areas.
You have your very own leadership style based on your competency level. So, the next step is to label your original leadership style. Because you can switch to any leadership style with deliberate effort, thought, and adaptation.
Daniel Goleman categorizes leadership approaches in 6 broad styles. Authoritative, Coaching, Affiliative, and Democratic help one to promote harmony and positive outcomes while Coercive and Pacesetting styles of leadership need to be used in specific situations as they could cause tension.
Your original style could be one of them. So for the purpose of this course, we are going to use a leadership style test to help you identify your core competencies. In brief, we are using the test here to help you identify your leadership approach. So, when you know how you approach an event, you could think and put efforts to bring a change in it. It will allow you to polish your strengths and focus to improve in other different areas as well.
Lets get started!
- Please take the leadership style test here: https://www.energir.com/blogue/en/at-work/quiz-what-kind-of-leader-are-you/

@Heather225
1. Democratic leader.
2. My good listening skills draw ideas out of everyone.
3. To be calm when things go into the wrong direction.
@Moonlemon48
I understand how difficult it sometimes is to stay calm in difficult situations, hope you are able to bring improvements in that field as you want, soon.
@Heather225
1. What is your leadership style?
I am an affiliative leader.
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?
I learned that my leadership style is specifically about encouraging relationships between people and prompting them to work together as a team.
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?
One thing I can improve upon is to make sure that I make sure that I don’t neglect my own needs while managing my team, as I may tend to put other’s needs before mine.
@kindFish9215
That's great!
@kindFish9215
That's a very important point to want to improve on. In taking care of others sometimes we don't take enough care of ourselves. I really think it's important for us to take care of ourselves to provide better help to others. I wish you the best in your improvement!
@Heather225
1. What is your leadership style?
I am an affiliative leader
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?
That I have a leadership style that encourages relationships between people, prompting them to work together, my strengths being:
i. I have the ability to ease tensions and motivate all my team members during difficult periods.
ii. That I can get people who are accustomed to working alone, work together instead.
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?
I would like to understand other people's way of working more and that although getting them to work together is a great way to build team spirit, sometimes letting them work in their comfort zone would be good as well.
@Textingpals
I think that's a great thing to want. Over time, I'm 100% certain your goal of understanding others' ways of working more is well within your reach. After all, affiliative leaders are very empathetic.
@Textingpals
I agree! Having a good balance of comfort and spirit is key to teamwork so there is intrinsic motivation, but also to avoid burning out. It's better to go toward a goal in a steady, meaningful manner, than go at it with everything and make mistakes along the way.
1.What is your leadership style?
I am an affiliative leader.
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?
I didn't know that there were different leadership styles so that's something new and I also learnt that I promote teamwork.
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?
I'd like to improve upon my leadership skills by employing new and fun methods for working together.
@jersey123456
Hi there! We have the same leadership style~ I think it's great that you are able to help others realise how to work together. It's a great skill to have on such a collaborative platform like 7cups.
im affiliative too! fun ways to work together is awesome!
@Heather225
1. What is your leadership style?
Affiliative leader
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?
That I understand other's needs very well and I have a knack for getting people, who are used to working alone, working in a group.
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?
I think my firmness. Sometimes I feel like being an affiliative leader comes with a level of warmth that is too high at times with too low of expectations. I want to be more firm about tasks and accountability for other members.
@LavenderFlower
I got affiliative too. I totally agree with you on firmness. It's sometimes hard to put your foot down or be stern with others when expectation is lacking, but I have learned that it is something you have to do as a leader, even if it is hard, for the greater good of the team, and even for the person to improve on themselves.
@Heather225
1. What is your leadership style?
I'm a democratic leader!
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?

I would like to improve on the ways I set my expectations to prevent burnout and unnecessary stress on my team mates and/or co workers.
@xinyii11
Encouraging creativity is so important because everyone has a different brain and great minds think better together than apart!
@xinyii11 Democratic Leadership is so cool! I appreciate that you encourage creativity and your listening skills! ❤️
@Heather225
1. What is your leadership style?
Affiliative
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?
I learned that I place am importance on teamwork and working together collaboratively. I encourage others to be open and share their needs/struggles to try to create a harmony, especially in tension-filled situations.
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?
Out of the four competencies I would say my weakness would be emotional intelligence. I would like to work on my own self-regulation and interpersonal qualities to make me a better leader and one who can be a role model in this way to others and teach them how to be more self-aware.
