my journal: various subjects, opinionating, CW at times

slowdecline48 June 24th, 2022

The title explains itself.

If you're interested in the ramblings of a middle-aged man with chronic conditions who, at times, sees things a little too clearly for his own good, then read on.

Sometimes I get political, but it won't be all the time.

I don't mind comments in general but if you're going to differ with what I write, that's fine--as long as you can explain your position clearly & reasonably. Rants, shouting & general incoherence will be ignored or flagged, depending on the situation. Try to remember that not everyone else in this world holds your beliefs.

Every so often I may post art or snapshots of projects I'm working on.

If you're still interested after reading all the above, great. (I do wonder at how much time you have on your hands, though)

@VictoriaLove7 (& anyone else interested) -

A few weeks ago I said I would post a snapshot of my pasta sauce, Vicki...remember that? The following is not from a fresh batch because I haven't made one yet. This is from the remnant of what I took out of the freezer last month:

As you can see, I use plenty of vegetables when I make it. No meat, for versatility. It was on top of some whole-wheat spaghetti at the time...unusual, since I prefer linguine. Flat noodles hold the sauce better.

I hate getting old.

@slowdecline48

i want to say happy birthday but I know you might not want to get reminded of your age so

(happy birthdayy…💖🎉)

I’m pretty young and I don’t like getting old either and I’m kind of scared to, just think of it as the last year of your fabulous 40s😎like the final season of a great show🤍I know you’ve gained so much wisdom and experience and that just means you’ve got some great stories to share. plus, you can always say you’re still in your 40s until next year!/j happy birthday slow🤍

@iloveyouxx Thanks. You're a sweet girl...has anyone ever told you so?

The conventional wisdom about growing old is that "it beats the alternative!"...not sure if I agree with that worn-out chestnut, but then I rarely agree with what most people consider to be wise. So there's that.

@mytwistedsoul Thanks but I don't celebrate it. There's nothing celebratory about getting old.

@slowdecline48 Oh ok. That's a good point. Getting old does suck

In other news: tropical storm Milton is expected to become a Category 3 hurricane in the Gulf of Mex, & hit southern &/or central FL sometime on Wednesday... 🤦🏼‍♂️ So much for my plans this week.

I don't regret moving to Florida overall, but honestly...every so often I hate it here. Guess I'm just an irritable b∆stard in general.

@slowdecline48   Are they making you all evacuate or anything? It blew up quick

slowdecline48 OP October 7th

@mytwistedsoul No, we haven't gotten any evac-right-now warnings. Not in the northeastern part of the state.

@slowdecline48 That's good to hear. Getting out to work on your property is probably pretty frustrating right now. How are you making out with the new meds? Sorry just being nosy lol

Eh...we'll see. I'm still trying to take it consistently. "Twice a day" the label says...this, for someone who doesn't really have a circadian rhythm. 😒

The Central Intelligence Agency is not what it used to be in the Cold War era. The fact that this item even made the news says it all.

If I had to guess I'd say the DIA & NSA are probably more effective overall, in this day & age.

Wish I had a couple more bars of soap. Oh well...it's always like that when you prep for any kind of disaster.

Really wish I could do a couple loads of laundry. All I can do is run to the laundry room if there's a chance btwn now & when Milton has passed....I'm thinking late Saturday night. Assuming we still have power by that time.

The Hemingway family is a famous & tragic example of how, far too often, talent comes with a heavy price to pay. Look at Ernest, the great writer...his granddaughter, Margaux...two others in the family whose names I can't recall also removed themselves from the census. My family is a less dramatic (& much less famous) example as well: depressive tendencies run in it, as does intellect. I'm an artist & craftsman; my dad was an artist when he was alive. He could write, too, when he wanted...

Why is it that when someone inherits an unusually big helping of talent--creative talent, in particular--it comes with some kind of malady? Depression, susceptibility to addiction, schizophrenia, etc...it gets genetically packaged with something that will mess up your life if you don't watch yourself. This doesn't happen to every last talented person, but it occurs way too often. Future biological/genetic engineering developments must fix this problem.

As of now the worst is over, or so it seems... outside this crackerbox 1BR it is overcast, cold & a bit windy. The electricity is still on...in fact it never cut out once. I am still here.

...Think I'll do laundry tonight...

@slowdecline48 Glad you made it though alright. Summer is officially over here that's for sure. It's supposed to get down to 35 here tonight. I hate winter!

@mytwistedsoul I get it. Winter ain't for everyone. It's definitely not for me, or else I'd be in New Hampshire or someplace up north!...

@slowdecline48 I'd like to go to Alaska but that 9 months of winter would suck so bad

New Hampshire has some nice mountains

I still feel like there's some lead in my head tonight...a bit dazed, with pain. But I want to paint a couple fast pieces, ***. Really want to get something done, so I can schedule posts for the next two weeks (where my art is, not here)...

🤔 Should I use chemical assistance?
