"Where Words Fail, Music Speaks"
Hi fellow IDG members,
In this post I would like to discussion one of my favorite music quotes and how it relates to inner development growth. Music is truly one of the most universal languages in the world and has the power to transcend across all barriers of communication. The famous quote by Hans Christian Andersen, "Where Words Fail, Music Speaks" does just that in a simple yet powerful quote.
Some of the ways music connects with inner development growth includes music can help express thoughts, feelings, emotions, bridges the gap where one person can connect with a person deep down in the most vulnerable parts of your soul, it can stimulate the mind, and even alter our mood. All these aspects can lead to increased self-awareness and personal growth.
Additionally, it makes sense why music therapy is a specialized form of treatment apart from the traditional method of talk therapy. Some of the reasons behind this is because it provides comfort during good moments just as well as the most challenging and darkest moments a person can go through. It motivates you to work out, to relax, to feel better when you are down, inspire and help contempt life decisions.
In essence, music can speak to us in ways that words sometimes cannot.
Discussion Questions:
Can you share a personal experience where music helped you express or understand your emotions when words fell short?
How do you think music contributes to personal development and growth? Can you provide examples from your own life or observations?
I look forward to seeing your answers and learning how this post and music helps you connect and your inner development growth.

Can you share a personal experience where music helped you express or understand your emotions when words fell short?
For this experience, I'm not sure if it was overall beneficial to my mental health but it did help express my emotions. There was this guy I was seeing a while back that was stringing me along and I had never been in this situation before. I was extremely hurt but also still wanted to be with him and I had trouble describing my emotions. I found some songs that I really resonated with and it help me feel less alone. However, I did end up sending these songs to this guy in hopes that it would help him understand what I was going through but it may have caused more damage in the long run. 😅

Music contributes to my personal development and growth because it helps me actually gain more self-perception into my own feelings. Sometimes I feel upset or angry but I can't really explain why or I feel as if the way I'm explaining it doesn't really match the way I really feel. This would also apply to people close to me and how sometimes I'll hear a song that helps me finally understand what they're feeling.
For example, my mom is a caretaker for a few of my family members due to neurodegenerative disorders. However, they are unfortunately not always helping themselves through their disease and my mom feels exasperated trying to support them, make them comfortable and happy etc. at the expense of her own health. There is this song called "Save Myself" by Ed Sheeran that I heard one day that genuinely described how she felt, which also helped me better understand her. At the same time though, it made her understand my point on how she needs some time for herself to keep going.

What a lovely post! I really resonate with your thoughts on music's power.
For me, I find that music can motivate me in surprising ways. I have created playlists for different moods, whether I need to pump myself up for a workout or unwind after a long day, it's been a game changer!

thanks for this awesome post!
I live for music. it feels very comforting. it helps me express all thing things that I could never put accurately into words. Its also an amazing escape.
Thank you for such a beautiful and révélant post! Music is truly such a wonderful tool for healing and growth and it's something I've understood very recently.
1) Today morning I was feeling really low, possibly due to my environment being low energy and some anxiety inducing things being stuck in my mind. I felt very fidgety. Then I turned on a weekend song and I'm feeling so much better. It helped me walk straight, fill my body with energy, bring a confidence in my body and mind and I became a social butterfly.
@Ivy229 Music contributed to my personal growth because it showed me that I can be pushed to achieve things that are difficult or feel impossible! As a trained singer, there are many times when I think that singing something is too complicated or will never come to pass, but then I surprise myself.
