Hey fellows,

I love to star gaze. There's something truly magical about looking up at the night sky and getting lost in the vastness of space, don't you agree?

It brings calmness and a sense of well-groundedness

I'd love to hear from all of you! Have you had any memorable experiences while exploring the night sky? Share your thoughts, tips, and favorite celestial sights below

@Aimperfectsoul I love watching the meteorites, shooting stars. We get the deckchairs out and blankets and lie back (so no neck strain lol) and watch the show in August especially Perseids?   https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/meteor-shower/perseid.html

@iloveyouxx

It definitely counts.

I saw a shooting star when I was 5, it was mesmerizing. Since then looking at the night sky and observing stars has become an inseparable part of me.

(Thank you, it is an adorable baby penguin🐧)

@Aimperfectsoul I don't really get to see the night sky. I'm afraid of the sun going down and darkness covers the world. My doctor gives me sleeping meds and I make sure I'm asleep before dark. So for me, I love the early morning, especially in the warm weather, I go sit in the garden and watch the sunrise, and th birds fly by ❤ it's so peacefull and relaxing ❤❤

Where I am from, the light pollution prevents me from being able to stargaze. However I remember back in university I went to the beach late at night, impromptu with some (now ex-) friends. We went to I believe Crystal Cove(?) to take pictures and check out the waves. There, the light pollution is not as bad compared to the city or campus. When I looked up, the moon was big and bright, and I saw so many constellations. It was truly a beautiful sight. I usually never get to experience those moments with others, so that night was one of the most memorable nights of undergrad.

I built a deep sky telescope and watched many nebulae, star clusters and galaxies.

I live in the Southern Hemisphere, which has a different view than the Northern Hemisphere, so some things can only be seen from the South (and viceversa). The Zodiacal constellations can be seen from both sides, but others not.

The most beautiful and interesting to me were the Orion Nebula, the Omega Centauri globular star cluster, the Jewel Box star cluster next to the Southern Cross, Eta Carinae (a supermassive star about to explode in the middle of a beautiful nebula), two small galaxies close to the Milky Way that can be seen from the South: the Magellanic Clouds, and inside them wonderful things like the huge Tarantula Nebula.

The most exciting thing I have seen is the Virgo Cluster of galaxies, about 54 million light years away from here. It is the center of the Virgo Supercluster to which our Milky Way belongs. That was an amazing, extraordinary experience.

I also like to watch the planets, particularly Saturn (so beautiful) and Jupiter, and also the Moon.

@HealingTalk Wow, that sounds absolutely incredible! The way you describe these celestial wonders you've witnessed is captivating. It's fascinating how the Southern Hemisphere offers a unique perspective on the cosmos, with its own set of breathtaking sights.

And I completely agree with you about Saturn and Jupiter—they never fail to dazzle with their beauty and mystery. Observing the Moon is always a delight as well, with its ever-changing phases and features.

You are right!

You can also watch all these deep sky objects and the Planets online, some at the full resolution original photos, as all astronomical data captured by telescopes is uploaded for the scientific community to research further.

But the feeling of seeing them with your own eyes is a most moving, indescribable experience.

I love the Moon and identify its craters, mountains and mariae with a moon map like this one:
https://moon.nasa.gov/observe-the-moon-night/resources/moon-map/

The Moon can be seen perfectly even from the most light-polluted city, with a small telescope and watching it is an inspiring and calming experience, perfect before bed.

Clear skies!
