@MusicCandy @SadMe70 New place to communicate
@MusicCandy Hi! I decided it was easier to just start a new thread. I can't figure out the old one.
I am headed to my mom's tomorrow until Sunday night. Today is the fifth anniversary of dad's death. I couldn't get up there today, so it's the first time I won't be with her on the actual day. I won't be on here this weekend, so I'm writing this on Wednesday.
Yesterday I made my first trip to the mountains in a long time. I hiked to Mary's Rock. It was not crowded and was great weather. It was kind of funny hiking in a t-shirt with snow on the ground!
Today we are celebrating my DIL's birthday. The actual day is Saturday but I'll be at mom's. I am going to make the Korean dessert that I made for New Year's, since their dog ate all the leftovers and she didn't get to try much of it. Then I have some cleaning to do, and some errands to run, and then pick her up 45 min away because my son is here at work near our house. I'm going early enough to drop by my other son's house first to meet his new dog. He and his fiancee are adopting a 2 year old. I need to do laundry to prepare for my trip, and need to write detailed instructions for my pet sitters. I have an old note to work from, but I have a new lady coming one day and I need to make it extra-detailed for her. She is a pet sitting company, so it will cost me, but I need another person in my rotation of feeders. So it's a busy day today!
I am grateful for my spring break this week that allows me to do all these things. I spent the weekend doing very little because I knew the rest of the week would be very busy! I don't like getting home the evening before I have to go back to work, since I won't get laundry, shopping, or cooking done, but it couldn't be helped!
I hope the new thread works out, and that I tagged you correctly so you will see it!
I hope your week has gone well, and here's to five more years of messages to come!
@SadMe70 So Sorry for your loss.
I truly am.
Hello! Well my first week back is done. I am getting re-adjusted to the 5AM wakeup time, and trying to adjust to my altered meal schedule. We made pizza last weekend for our anniversary, and had leftovers for 3 days after, so I put on 2 pounds but have already gotten them back off! I am pretty consistently back to where I was last October when I lost the 20, so now I am going to work on the additional 5. I look at my pretty flowered long skirts now and then for motivation. I hardly ever wear dresses or skirts, but I love those and would like to be able to wear them occasionally!
I have not talked with my new principal yet, but she spoke at our staff meeting Monday and the first impression is positive. She seems to have a good sense of humor, and to really like being in an elementary school (she taught high school for years before moving to elementary admin). She is also letting us wear jeans and sneakers. One teacher told me that she said to them that we are adults and as long as we look appropriate (basically not sexy or like a bum) she doesn't care what we wear. I like that attitude a lot. My feet need to be comfortable and for me that means sneakers!
I hope that all your long shifts went well! You are one of the hardest working people I know! I am really glad you have your trip coming up next month. You have certainly earned it!!
I can imagine how annoying it is for people to plan things for you that would not be what you would choose to do. I have had massages in the past, and as much as I liked the actual massage, I found the overall experience awkward. When they give me a glass of cucumber water or some such, and tell me I can sit in the dim relaxation room with the other people who are done, I just get out of there. I don't find sitting in a room with strangers at all relaxing! I also cringe when they work on my hands, since I chew my cuticles bloody up to the first knuckle and it looks appalling! It sounds like you have a wonderful house, and the spa will probably be fun with you all together! I will pray that the travel part will go well!
My husband was Navy, but was a military dependent growing up and they sometimes lived on Marine bases. I had passed by it on 95 a lot of times too, and I think the exterior is really ugly. I was happily surprised at how cool the inside central atrium looks. The front of the exterior under that big triangular thing is also pretty. I guess that top part is supposed to look like a jet?
Our tomatoes are very tasty but we are not getting very many. If we want to can like last year, we are going to have to buy them. Our fig trees once again have no figs, but I do like the scent of the trees. I can't remember if I told you, but the hydrangea my mom gave me two years ago is blooming for the first time and it is gorgeous! The blossoms are blue, and start out light colored, and then progress to a wonderful deep color. I love it! I got four clusters this year.
My son and DIL got COVID, testing positive three days after I spent the day with her and also saw him briefly. I did not get sick, so I think my second vax was a good idea! My DIL has not regained her taste yet either.
At my last job, where I worked in an office for 20 years, I had hit the vacation max. I could not accrue any more and it stunk. My boss would never have let me take lots of time off to start using it so I could earn more, and that factored into my decision to leave. I needed to get out of there anyway. So at least I got a nice lump sum payout! It does suck that they want you working extra but then you will hit your max and not get anything for it. The whole world desperately needs health care workers, and they should treat you better!! I am glad for you that you only have one more year left.
Did you and Rachael get to the pool much this week? It was certainly hot enough to enjoy the pool! NOw that I am spending 7-8 hours in AC without going outside at all, it is a shock to go out in the afternoon and be hit in the face with a wave of heat! My car is like an oven, and I get home drenched in sweat every day, just from walking to the car and then sitting in it until the AC catches up! I like to wear my bras for more than one day since I only have 4 and don't like to do the laundry midweek, but I am going through one a day now just to get home!!
I hope your week has been good, not too hectic, and with time to do something for yourself! I hope you are continuing to improve from the COVID! Have a good week, my friend!
@SadMe70
Hello, back to work friend.. one day it will be your turn to say - hey I'm retiring next year! It sounds like you had a pretty good first week back, despite the clock adjustment. I cant think I could get up at 5 every day. I'm better if I'm already working at that hour - or asleep. But every job has good and bad points.
The tomatoes must be good right off the vine - I've had one this year. Mostly I just haven't stopped at the roadside stand or farmer's market so that is my fault. My fig tree is just strange. I got one small batch and now it is full of very small figs, and they have been that way for 3 weeks. I don't know, we have had rain so I can't figure out why. I did some extra house cleaning last week since I have to work 7 shifts next week. It does feel good for me personally to walk into the clean room and I am slowly selling some of my music teaching instruments. I wish fiance would start selling some of his collected *&^%$ stuff. So frrustrating.
I'm sorry your son and DIL got COVID - I hope it is a mild case. They are saying to wait until Fall to get another booster so it will better match the current variant - whatever that is. I have kept the 2 lbs off since COVID. Good for you keeping off 20 - that is an accomplishment.
The trip to VT has gone through multiple messages, reservations from my sisters and me to fly and a plane change in Philly, for all 3 of us, both ways. I actually decided to drive or train ride to Philly the trip up and at least i'll be at the airport in advance of the second flight. Other 2 sisters are coming from FL and the cancelled flights are worrisome, especially holiday travel. I actually put the suggestion that we could CN and try again later, but they said they wanted to come anyway and take whatever comes. At least they are together. But I thought I should do that since I pd for the VRBO and reserved it 2 years ago, but travel by plane wasnt bad then. I would hate to think they felt obligated to not hurt my feelings or I would lose the money ( i wouldn't) and come; then have terrible flights being bumped. now I don't feel responsible, so we will see how it goes.
Rachael and I did get to the pool almost every evening last week, an it is a nice end of the day treat. I think it will cool down soon, but of course just me, I love summer and I hate to see it end. work is not terrible and only 10 hours to go. A good doc in the ED which also helps- he doesn't order stupid exams. I hope week 2 goes well and you start to get used to it, Its for the money and we have to pay the bills. Plus you get to work with the kids and that's something to look forward to.
Hello, the kids are back! They started Tuesday. My team functions as aides for the first couple of weeks to help get everyone settled. Next week we will start 1-on-1 ABC lessons with K kids who know fewer than 5 letters by sight. Our other lessons will start later after assessments are done to place kids into groups. I will be working with K-2 again this year, with the exact same schedule as last year, which has never happened before in my 8 years working there. I have one different teacher since one of the ones I worked with last year left teaching, but this lady was doing long term subbing all of last year so I know her pretty well.
I ate well and exercised well all week, but had a treat last night. My mom always sends us a card with a check for our anniversary, which was a couple of weeks ago, and we usually use it to buy dinner. I went and picked up sushi in Fredericksburg after work, and popped into the grocery store for milk. While I was there, I figured we needed a bag of chocolate cookies too! I topped it all off with half a bottle of wine. I enjoyed every bit of all of it, no regrets. One of my goals with the weight loss is to get where my clothes fit, and then I know I can have the weekend splurges and settle back down during the week.
I have only been to the farmers' market once, and to a farm stand once, so I have not had a whole lot of fresh produce this summer. I did not do my usual cooking up of a giant pot of fresh veggies all together to can, which is too bad since I used those for quick dinners during the year. I did get some other meals frozen though, so that is good. If I have meals left at the end of school, I try to eat those during the summer and start over so the frozen meals are not as old.
I am not great at housecleaning. I try to at least keep the living room pretty tidy and run my roomba to get the animal hair. Every other room is very cluttered which drives me nuts, but most of it is not my clutter, so I can't do anything about it. It is frustrating! I admit my bedroom has a lot of my clutter, but the other two bedrooms are full of his stuff, and he leaves a lot of stuff sitting in the kitchen long term, which really drives me nuts.
I am glad it has cooled off a bit. I did not walk all week, and probably won't have time this weekend, but I hope to get in one or two after work this coming week. I hope that you will have a chance to get some in, and your pool trips also!
I hope all your shifts went well, and you got some down time for you!
@SadMe70 Hello, It was nice to hear you had a pretty good start to the school year with a familiar schedule and coteachers. I think it will be easier this year with the restrictions eased and COVID going down overall. It has certainly been a tough 2 years, and we are all ready for some new new normal that can last awhile at least. I can't imagine children entering K and not knowing their ABC's but I guess it does happen. I know you will help them get up to speed in no time!
Good for you eating well and getting some exercise. I worked the extra 2 shifts last week and the afternoons were hot so we didn't get in all the walks as usual, but we did get to the pool most late afternoons. The paycheck is nice and I remind myself that is why I do it, just to get some extra cash saved and help with family expenses without paying interest. The last 12 hours now to go and thankfully it hasn't been terrible this week-end. I am sort of hanging on to the 2 lbs i lost, up and down a bit. My annual ck up is next week and I already had my labs done so there isn't a lot for the NP to go over except renew my scripts for fosomax and hormones. I take my own supplements from what I read and research . i'm due for another colonoscopy but no rush on my part!
I have finalized my travel plans , i think, with one train ride to Philly, then fly from there to Burlington and fly back with a stopover plane change in Philly then back to Richmond. I'm still nervous, but if Im not in a hurry to get back in case there is a delay. The good news ( for me) is my sisters realized that the spa deal they wanted to do was on Monday - the actual Labor Day holiday. I had doubts that they would be open for 4 people to do all that at the same time , and off season for ski country at that. And I was right ! So we have to do something else, like a fun ferry ride or picnic on the beach, Less expensive for the sister who is paying, and way more relaxing for real. The rest of that they planned will just go along as long as everyone gets there on time... or whenever. I have all the receipts on my phone, and printed out too I'm still more secure with paper as a backup.
I hope you enjoyed your Anniversary dinner, it all sounds delicious. Sweet of your Mom to do that.
Everyone else doing OK in my tribe, and hope the same for you. Cooler weather on the way. Relax and breathe - I will too.
Hello, I had a pretty good and quick week. Time goes much faster sometimes when school is in! I ate well and exercised well, with one short walk on Wednesday. I have been drinking a little every day but not too much on the weekdays, and I did splurge last night but that's ok since I did well the rest of the week! It is pretty shocking how many kids start K knowing few to no letters, but there are plenty of them every year. Many of them can write their name but not name the letters, which I find perplexing. We have already had lots of kids out sick and sent home sick from school, not all COVID though. We have all the usual germs floating around rampant again since there are few people wearing masks.
Good for you keeping those 2 pounds off! It is always gratifying when you eat well and exercise, and actually see the benefits. I know you lost it when you were sick, but you've kept it off by doing good things for yourself! Did you get more walks and pool time this week? It was not as cool as I had hoped - yesterday I had planned to walk after work but when I came out of the building, it was too hot for me. Maybe today!
How did your work shifts go through the rest of last weekend and this week? Did you work more extras? I am glad you are able to pay off expenses etc. with all that hard earned money! I hope that will leave you with less debt when you retire, so you can really relax with more peace of mind financially. You deserve it!
How did your checkup go? I am also due for a colonoscopy, but while I am dealing with the cervical issue and the tooth implant, I don't want to deal with that too. I can't leave it too long since I had precancerous polyps last time, and family history on both sides, but it will have to wait a little while at least. Do you have osteoperosis? My mom has some of the precursor conditions, but not full blown osteoperosis yet. I had been told I would get a dexa scan at 50, but when I reached 50 they said the guidelines had changed and I could not get one. I really wanted to have that baseline given my mom's condition, but since it is not actual osteo, they did not count that.
Just a few more weeks until your trip! I am excited for you! I am glad for you that the spa fell through, so you can find something that you would enjoy more. I love ferries, so that sounds like a great option to me! We did enjoy our sushi dinner, and I had a few pieces leftover for lunch the next day.
My family is doing ok. My younger son and DIL finally decided to fix up their old car for her to use, but it is in way too bad shape to spend money on, so now they need another car. They still have a huge loan on their other car, plus his student loans, so I offered to lend them money interest free, to be paid back later when their other loans are done. I need it for when I retire, but right now it is just sitting there, and they really need a car. My mom offered to do the same, so they could have enough to hopefully get a half decent used car - they are so ridiculously expensive right now. I don't know if they will accept, and as far as I know they have not even looked. I really wish they would, because she actually wants to go out to the Y for classes (they joined recently and she likes it), and I think I have her talked into volunteering in K at my school. It will be great for her to get out of the house and interact with people. Fingers crossed!
I hope all is well with you, and that you have a wonderful week, my friend!
@SadMe70 Hello, We both had a good week! It must be mentally engaging for you to as a coteacher to figure out the best way to get the little kids interested in learning when they obviously weren't exposed to books and reading at home or maybe have a learning challenge already. The only K music class I had was private school and they all were privileged enough to be early readers by then. I think it is the most important skill at that age, and kudos to you for being the catalyst. I hope your DIL does volunteer at the school - how cool that she is Korean - right? she can share a lot of cultural enrichment that they might not get otherwise, win for everyone, including her self esteem.
I'm happy for you getting in some good meals and walks. As for the 2 lbs, I've just tried to keep a watch on the scale and do my best not to overdo the snacks. It is a lot easier to keep it off than to lose it again. We did get our usual walks and pool time last week and it is SOO nice to just float after a long hot day. I'll miss that in winter, the indoor pool is not the same. I heard a podcast that I heard before, and even ordered the book then about fiber " Fiber Fueled" It proves that the best overall thing you can do for any diet is increase variety of plants and aim for at least 35 grams/ fiber daily. That can be hard, but the author has now written a cookbook from his research, including black bean mexican chocolate brownies - sounds delicious. I don't have a lot of time to cook, but I do get the small packages of frozen vegetables and microwave them and put in bowls in the frig. Add a cauliflower/ rice blend and a can of beans and its easy and everyone will eat well. Soups with a can of beans added is another lunch meal for fiance - he doesn't cook at all. Maybe it will be better news with my next colonoscopy. I had one flat polyp last time. I have been osteopenic for a long time, at least 10 years and have taken the generic fosomax off and on , but so far not ostopenia, Weight bearing exercise is best for that along with the green leafy vegetables and prunes ( new research). My NP described me as a "young 68" I want to keep it up.
The work shifts have been OK last 2 weeks and the OT does help. I'm actually not in debt at all except the house, and i make double payments on that. Used car pd for in cash and enough saved up for another one when this one gives out. The extra money has gone for family mostly ( like you), the Estate plan for my ex, which he had to do but couldn't afford it - that is complicated for Rachael's benefits to continue, but necessary. Helping my other daughter get out of her credit card debt and now she wants to complete her Master's - so I'll pay for one course until she can get reimbursement from her work. And the big one- fiance's dental work, a combo of bridge, implant and gum surgery. He has savings, but not enough. I was in debt with my ex when we were married due to his alcohol abuse and I vowed to never let that happen again, no matter how many shifts I had to work. The 401 k lost value this last year so I'm hoping it will get back up before I do retire since there will be no more matching money after that. Its a blessing to have a job that gives us a measure of security.
I'm still nervous about the trip, but I started my packing list and that got me to looking for certain items which led to an overhaul of the spare room and that was mentally rewarding. I am learning to let go which itself feels good. I took a box of beautiful dishes to the thrift store, and some jewelry I will never wear too, though there is still too much of that, a small step at least.
I'm working Tuesday day shift, and I need a haircut before the trip, plenty of time to get it done. I hope you enjoy the weekend - the weather is pretty nice compared to the 105 heat we had and then rain every day. Everyone else doing well and I hope the happy streak continues, for both of us.
Hello my friend! I am a day late posting this, so I think you will not see it until next weekend. I had an ok week. I continued my pattern of eating well and exercising all week, and letting loose on the weekend. Last night my husband made a huge tray of cinnabon-like rolls and they are sooo good. Each one probably has almost as much sugar as I eat all week! I don't know if they will freeze well, but I am going to give it a try because there are a lot left and I don't want them accessible during the week!
I started the first of my lessons this past week, working with the K kids who know fewer than 10 letters. It is definitely rewarding. We start with the letters of their first name, and the first few of the alphabet. Once we see some retention of the letter names, we add a few more at a time. We have had a lot of people out at work. On Friday there were 7 teachers and 6 paras out. I know at least 3 had COVID; not sure about the rest. Lots of kids out too. My DIL is Korean. They still have no second car, so I have not approached her again about volunteering. They might borrow my truck temporarily, after Labor Day weekend. If so, I will ask her again! The K teacher that I think would be great for her, and who is very excited to get a volunteer, is one that was out all week sick, so her class will be in turmoil when she returns, and some extra hands would be nice!
My son's fiance just finished a master's degree. Since graduation is not until May, my son and her parents are throwing her a party today. I love that idea, except they made it a surprise. I know she has a lot of anxiety issues, so I am thinking a surprise party will not be her favorite. I hate them for myself, and I am going to guess that you feel the same! It is outside down a trail at a pavilion, so it sounds like a pretty place.
Just a few more days until your trip! So actually, I am thinking you might not see this message until after your trip! That is totally fine. I might write again next weekend, so you will have a few messages to read when you get back. I hope you don't have too many shifts this week, so that you have some time to get ready for your trip. Will Rachael stay with your fiance while you are gone? Did you have a chance to get your haircut? Good for you cleaning out some stuff from your house! I admit that I have way too much stuff myself, though it is still stuff that would be easy for my kids to get rid of if something happened to me, as opposed to the tons of big heavy stuff that my husband has.
How do you like the Fiber Fueled book? The calorie tracker that I use also tracks some nutrients and other things. I find that I get enough fiber, but am too low (about half) on protein and calcium. I have no problem getting carbs and fat!! I like the sound of the black bean brownies! I have made a chocolate cake that uses chickpeas instead of flour and it is pretty good.
I truly hope that you have a wonderful trip! I hope there are no travel issues, that you find a great alternative to the spa day, and enjoy being with your sisters!!
Hello! I am picturing you having a wonderful time on your vacation! I can't wait to hear about it!
I have not been good with my eating and have picked up 3 pounds. In addition to the cinnamon rolls (which we finally finished off last night), they had Klondike bars at school, lots of them. I think they still aren't gone. I had 4 this week. Grrr. I need to get myself back under control! At least I was still exercising, and I got a nice walk on Friday.
I went to the oral surgeon Friday and had a 3-D xray. Then he showed me how he uses that software to mark where my nerves and blood vessels are below the teeth, and then placed a model of the implant into the jaw xray and can move it around to get it placed just right. It was pretty neat. I can schedule the implant at any time, but I am still waiting for the gyn office to call me and schedule my other procedure. I know both will involve some pain, and the cervical procedure will have me bleeding for several weeks, so I want to space them out.
After the appointment, I walked on a trail system in Fredericksburg that I walked twice at least ten years ago with my older son. We only did a very small part, and I did that same part again. I was a little nervous on urban wooded trails by myself. I seldom worry in state parks, but being in the middle of a city makes me worry who else might be out there. There are many more miles of trails, so I do hope to go back a try some other sections when I can.
My husband and I canned tomatoes yesterday! Last year we canned ones he grew, and they were so tasty all winter. Our crop didn't do much this year, so we bought 50 pounds of canning tomatoes from a local farmer. They are not as good as the ones we grew, but we did get 23 pints and 3 quarts out of them.
Today I hope to go on another walk. It looks like good weather and not too hot.
I hope you are having a wonderful time!!!
@SadMe70
Hey. I'm back. Absolutely nothing I worried about was a problem - train and planes all on time and I survived the nerves of getting around on my own. However, ..my phone was stolen from my gym, bag the night before my last day to get ready. I saw the girl, she asked me an odd question in the shower room, it was just before closing and when I got home - phone gone. Tried the locator and at first it said "device located", but kept circling, then it was turned off. It was a total nightmare. I had buy but a new phone the next day, and insurance covered a phone but it could only be mailed, too late for me. All mu travel stuff was on there along with some accounts linked to my credit card, and google saves everything whether you know it or not. The whole week I had to try to keep track of her attempts to hack into amazon ,paypal, FB and she made a fake Instagram account, I don't even have Instagram. The only thing she actually got charged was an UBER ride and I only knew that from a message from the driver. I had a code to log in, but that is apparently easy to hack into and the only way i knew anything was 2 step notification. I filed a police report when I got home, but with no camera in the shower room, it will be hard to prosecute even if they do find her. she added an address on my Uber acct and amazon, which is something, but she can say someone gave her the phone. Still dealing with her attempts, but I think I have finally changed every password .
We did have a really nice time in Stowe and Burlington, but 2 sisters couldn't hike, knee problems so I missed a waterfall and some nice scenery. We did the tourist things , the Trapp lodge, Ben and Jerrys. Cabot chees, VT teddy bear, a lunch cruise on the Lake and lots of pictures. The last day, my youngest sister got a tooth abcess, which will have to be an surgery and implants , like you. We arent getting any younger. and my birthday was the 8th, back at work. Daughter and her fiance and my fiance brought food, flowers, balloons to work - and cheesecake. I'm still exhausted from the trip, catching up and the mental anguish and ongoing stress. We had some good meals and wine, but I didn't overeat. I know you will get back to your routine and those 3 pounds will go POOF! don't we wish it was thAT EASY!
Good for you getting the tomatoes canned - they will be so good this winter in soup and sauces. My fig tree came back to life while I was gone and pans full ready all at once. Fiance picked and washed them and froze them so I'll be able to make some more jam - when I feel like it. I joked to my sisters that when I got home was a good time to clean the frig, because fiance ate Everything! True.
I'm glad you got at least one walk in F'berg. I did that city railway walk in NOVA, Reston maybe? when I was traveling up to NOVA with music trainings. Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle and that was no fun being away from home, alone and having to drive back in pain - but it was pretty as I recall.
Well, with our ups and downs, we carry on. Enjoy your weekend and back to work when the ice cream is all gone. Talking to you makes me feel better .. thank you for being here.
Hello! I am so glad to hear that your trip went well! It's such a relief when the travel part works out so it doesn't mess up the rest of the trip. It sounds like you went to some interesting places! I have never been to New England, and all of those sound good to me. I am sorry you missed the hiking, since I know you would have enjoyed that. You really deserved a nice trip like that, and I'm so glad you got to go!
How awful about your phone! And it's worse that it didn't break, but someone did that to you and caused you all that trouble, not only replacing the phone but having to keep on top of her fraud attempts. I am very sorry about that, especially when you finally got to go away!
I hope that your sister is doing ok! I got the go-ahead from the oral surgeon to get my implant, but I have that on hold while I deal with the other end. The gyn office finally called after a month, and my surgery is next Thursday, with a pre-op appointment Monday. I read online that I could bleed for 2-3 weeks after the surgery, and my period started yesterday (after 49 days) so it looks like I have close to a month of bleeding going on. Ugh.
We went to the mountains last weekend and I had a really nice hike on a trail that I discovered two years ago but had not been back to try. It goes from Skyline Drive down the mountain and intersects with various other trails so you can go lots of places but it's long. I just went down an hour and back up, which I think was only about 3 miles total, but the up was strenuous for me. The weather was perfect and I had a wonderful time. We bought a bushel each of peaches and apples, and my husband has been processing them. We froze a bunch of sliced peaches and he is dehydrating some, and he is dehydrating all the apples. They are super tasty that way! We also dug out most of our sweet potatoes and have a nice haul! We tried to leave tiny ones in the ground to see if they will get bigger.
After my great hike, over that night I started feeling bad and have felt awful since. It may be ragweed allergies, or maybe a cold, I can't really tell. Lots of drainage making my throat sore, head feels bad, very tired. I'm taking allergy meds plus Vitamin C and zinc but nothing seems to make much difference. I hope it clears up by Thursday! I have done very little exercise and today didn't get up until 9:30!
How cool that you got even more figs! I am glad your fiance was able to freeze them so you can still use them later. Would you make more jam to use for Christmas presents? I like to give consumables as gifts rather than stuff, and preferably handmade or locally made, but I have given jam, soap, and bracelets a lot and would like to change it up this year if I can think of something!
I am sure I have some hungry animals outside, so I had better go feed them. Tonight we go out to dinner with my older son and his fiance to celebrate her finishing her master's degree. Her parents and my son had that party for her last month, and we wanted to do something to.
I hope your week back to work has gone ok, and I am so glad that your trip was mostly so wonderful!
@SadMe70
So nice to get your note, but so sorry you are not feeling well. I hope along with you that it is just overexertion or allergies, or at least nothing serious. you already have enough going on with the GYN surgery and Implants, ect. It is really tough to go through all that and still keep working. It seems like one thing after another.
I really think I had some PTSD after my phone was stolen.. the whole trip and following week, I was on pins and needles and hyper startled, made little forgetful mistakes and was irritable. Thankfully, no more funny stuff coming through and the only thing she actually got, besides the phone, was one UBER charge, which she didn't even get to ride because i alerted the driver. I reported the charge as fraud, but no word or that, about 25 dollars. You better believe I'll keep my phone at home unless absolutely necessary to take it with me. Fiance does most of the driving and if I drive, I can lock it in the glove box.
Your hike sounds like a lot of fun, if a bit challenging. an hour is enough for one day anyway. There are so many beautiful places in just Virginia to hike and kayak, I am looking forward to retirement for that very reason. I hope the celebration dinner is good for everyone. My other daughter just started back finishing her Masters, but one course at a time this time. Working 60 plus hrs a week, she is smart to do that even if it takes longer. she was chosen to represent VCU at Pridefest this week-end, so she did most of the work for that herself - setting up a tent and interacting with folks all day. I told her be sure to keep up with this stuff on her records, it looks good for whatever comes next.
Well, my next is -a few more patients at work, plus i'm working an extra shift tomorrow, Sunday 3 to 11. At least it is OT, and I can make another part payment on my mortgage. When the house is pd for, I;ll have a big celebration, a ways to go, but goals are what keeps us going. i hope you get better soon, i'll say a prayer.
@SadMe70 sorry for your loss
Hello my friend. I decided to write today since I took an extra day off to recover from my procedure. I got over the cold/allergies before the surgery, so that was nice. The surgery went well, he got the polyp and took off the outer layer of the cervical canal which should give me a low chance of recurrence. I have not felt any pain, just some mild cramping, and I will bleed for a few weeks, so overall I am feeling pretty good. I have done almost no exercise for two weeks, so I hope to get back to that this coming week. I have at least controlled my eating fairly well, so no new weight gain!
My sons are both coming to help my husband do some stuff at the house (install a new track light in my kitchen, etc.). There is often fighting and tension, espec my husband and younger son, so I pray that this will go well. I always feel it is my husband's fault because he is impatient and prickly, and wants everything done exactly as he says, but I can't openly take my sons' side against him, so it's just stressful, even just waiting for things to blow up, wondering what will set him off.
I think you probably did have some PTSD from your phone being stolen. Someone violated your personal property to find the phone, got all your info, and you can't get on top of every single thing they might do with that information. Plus it is very unlikely she will get caught and suffer any consequences, which is so unfair. That would cause anyone stress and trauma! I am glad that at least she did not get away with anything major.
It sounds like your daughter is having a lot of successes! I am sure you are really proud of her! I wish her well with her Masters coursework. I know from my son's experience how hard it is to go to take graduate courses while working full time. It is impressive that they can take it on!
I hope all your shifts went well this week. Everyone I interacted with at ambulatory surgery was great. The registration lady, two pre-op nurses, and two post-op nurses were especially great. I am so grateful for all of you healthcare workers putting in such long and early (and/or late!) hours to take care of patients. They certainly made my experience go better. I got up at 4AM and all I had to do was lie in a bed. They had to work all day and be cheerful to patients. You are all amazing!!
@SadMe70
Well, at least you got one thing out of the way! I'm glad everyone was kind and helpful to you. It does make us feel appreciated when folks like you notice the extra care, and I especially thank you for the supportive note. You are right it isn't always easy, but then your job isn't either. I hope the bleeding clears up soon, that in itself is uncomfortable. A prayer for healing.
I know what you man about tension when family members try to do a task when one person is just ornery and demanding. Rachael's dad was like that too, and I dreaded when anyone offered a suggestion, he would fly off the handle. Even the girls would end up in tears ( me too)- but he has mellowed out over the years, It is stress you don't need or deserve.
So far the work week-end was OK, and I worked extra this evening Sunday. Only a couple of more hours to go. Rachael went back to day support a few hours last week..Yea!. She was suposed to get her annual physical first but they couldn't get her in until November so they made an exception since her COVID shots are up to date. She was so excited to see her friends and the same staff. We still got our walk in the AM, and she goes in at 12 until 4. I may try to get Logistacare approved for a ride in so there is just one trip for me, its about 8 miles away. We had that service before and it does help with only 4 hrs there. It was hard to get anything else done in that short time. But she loves it so we will work it out anyway.
That's about the only new news here, no damage from the storm at my house, but such a bad situation for so many. I know groups will help, and my church will too --- still a long road of recovery.
I hope the rainy day weekend was calming for you and you had some more time to rest and recover. Au revoir, mon amie - i just love French.
Hello my friend, I took an extra day off on Monday because I was still feeling so exhausted on Sunday. I hated doing that, but it was good that I did. I felt pretty normal by Tuesday. Still bleeding but it is light. This morning I am headed to my mom's for the weekend. Today is her birthday. The big family lunch got pushed to next weekend, but I already had my plans made and the pet sitter hired, and I will not mind getting away for a few days! Last weekend was pretty stressful with family fights both days, sigh. Next weekend I will just drive up and back for the lunch. I have still done very little exercise but I am slowly getting back to it. My eating has been ok, not much alcohol, but still plenty of sweets!
I am so glad that Rachael was able to go back to day support! It sounds like something she really enjoys. I hope that you can also get transportation arranged so you will have some additional time available. I hope she is having a great time seeing her friends!
We had no storm damage either, not even loss of power. I feel very grateful. We have a partially finished permanent sump pump project in the outside basement stairwell where the flooding usually happens, so I think we would have been in better shape than in the past, but it was not put to the test. This was one of the projects my husband was working on with his helpers but he does not have them anymore and has not found a replacement.
I hope your week has gone well!
Au revoir - I took French in high school but don't remember much!
