@MusicCandy @SadMe70 New place to communicate

SadMe70 March 16th, 2022

@MusicCandy Hi! I decided it was easier to just start a new thread. I can't figure out the old one.

I am headed to my mom's tomorrow until Sunday night. Today is the fifth anniversary of dad's death. I couldn't get up there today, so it's the first time I won't be with her on the actual day. I won't be on here this weekend, so I'm writing this on Wednesday.

Yesterday I made my first trip to the mountains in a long time. I hiked to Mary's Rock. It was not crowded and was great weather. It was kind of funny hiking in a t-shirt with snow on the ground!

Today we are celebrating my DIL's birthday. The actual day is Saturday but I'll be at mom's. I am going to make the Korean dessert that I made for New Year's, since their dog ate all the leftovers and she didn't get to try much of it. Then I have some cleaning to do, and some errands to run, and then pick her up 45 min away because my son is here at work near our house. I'm going early enough to drop by my other son's house first to meet his new dog. He and his fiancee are adopting a 2 year old. I need to do laundry to prepare for my trip, and need to write detailed instructions for my pet sitters. I have an old note to work from, but I have a new lady coming one day and I need to make it extra-detailed for her. She is a pet sitting company, so it will cost me, but I need another person in my rotation of feeders. So it's a busy day today!

I am grateful for my spring break this week that allows me to do all these things. I spent the weekend doing very little because I knew the rest of the week would be very busy! I don't like getting home the evening before I have to go back to work, since I won't get laundry, shopping, or cooking done, but it couldn't be helped!

I hope the new thread works out, and that I tagged you correctly so you will see it!

I hope your week has gone well, and here's to five more years of messages to come!

I'm so sorry the vaccine made you feel so bad. My daughter had the same experience. It must have been really hard to work if you were even able. I had a good, busy ( no surprise there) week, but nothing spectacular or terrible. Abvi, Rachael and their Dad are at Massanutten this week , timeshare. Abi is used to her Dad being very piucky about everything, just wanting attention, This week, they ended up with an "efficiency" for some reason, and there is no regular over or stove. He always likes to cook most meals, its is his fav thing, so he was pretty upset over that. They weren't able to move them, so she went into Harrisonburg and bought an air fryer, and she said he wasn't angry and throwing fits at least. It is always something, but i hope he doesn't complain the whole time for Abi's sake.

Other than that, not much. I'm enjoying the weather when I can get outside, but Ive been sorting unneeded items still, home and the church. Rachael will be gone as she usually stays with us weeknights, so maybe we can do something fun. He already has some ideas, if you know what i mean, wink. I am just happy we get a few more warm days, and the trees are beautiful.

I will say a prayer for you to feel better and have some chai. Maybe get some time to chat wih the sons and family, the babies must be so cute now.  I'm at work tonight and clocks back, so I get to work an extra hour, yea me!  Write when you can, but don't stress over it. We know we do what we can.

SadMe70 OP November 3rd

Good morning, I am doing so much better today.  Those vaccines just knock me for a loop.   I am getting pretty tired of feeling bad almost all the time, from one thing or another!

Last weekend I went to my son's Halloween party on Friday night, and had a nice time.  I think it is easier for me socially than some other things because we are all sitting at a table playing a game, not trying to socialize in groups which I find so awkward. The conversation revolves around the game.  I also spent the night, since my son and DIL have a guest room at their new house, and had a pleasant, relaxing morning with them.  My DIL had made squash soup that she was really proud of, so I had some, and it was delicious!

Work has been good.  On Halloween, at school, we do a parade at the end of the day.  Each grade walks around the bus loop.  It's fun!

I've had some very bad nights lately, where I get only 2 or 3 hours sleep. One lady at school has suggested magnesium, which I think my doctor mentioned to me also.  I googled and there are 5 different types of supplements with magnesium, which can all supposedly help with sleep but in different ways, so I'm not sure which one to choose!  I also had a period start this week after 91 days without one.  I had never missed more than one in a row, so I thought maybe it was the beginning of the end. I've been doing my exercise except the mornings after I couldn't sleep, and also my Tuesday walks and my yoga.  My eating has not been good at all (LOTS of candy), but I've actually had a bit less alcohol than usual.

How have you been?  Have you gotten some walks in this beautiful weather this week?  I haven't been outside yet today but through the window it looks lovely! I hope you are well, and that work has not been too hectic.

Time to go make the chai, with some thawed out jersey milk, so nice and creamy!

Have a wonderful week my friend!

SadMe70 OP November 9th

Hello my friend, today I am not only not sick, but also well rested.  Even though I drank a lot of bourbon last night, and went to bed very late for me (almost 11!), I slept fairly well until almost 6. I've actually gotten decent sleep all week, and good exercise videos each morning. I did not walk with my friends, but I did get a 45 min walk on my own yesterday, plus my yoga class Thursday.  I have been eating a lot of sweets, and put on 5 pounds in the past two weeks, so I still have work to do!

I do have some sad news though.  On Saturday evening, my older goat fell, and by Sunday morning was unable to get up again.  On Monday I called the vet, came home early to meet him, and my goat was already dead.  I had been prepared to put him down, so it was probably just as well.  His name was Jet, and I had him longer than any pet I've had in my life.  He was 16, and I don't think I've had any dog or cat get past around 12. I am down to one goat, and I'm concerned for her since they are herd animals and do not like to be alone.  She has the goose, but I don't know that it will be enough, so I am thinking of contacting the people I used to borrow bucks from and see if I can borrow a female for companionship.  Then try to find one my goat will actually accept.  I dread that whole process, not least of which contacting people I have meant to stay in touch with because of all their kindness to me in the past, now contacting them out of the blue to ask for another favor.

I hope the girls had a great time at Massanutten! I'm sorry about the efficiency - it would be annoying to not be able to cook.  I hope Abi's solution mitigated the issue enough that they all had a good time.  She sounds like my sons, scrambling to find something to keep dad's temper in check. I hope you and your fiance found *something* to occupy your alone time!!!

My husband's birthday was this week, and today we are meeting our son and DIL in Fredericksburg for dinner at a sushi place we used to go to a lot in past years. I am looking forward to that.  I am always happy to be around my son, and we all like the food at this place.

I can see out my window that the weather looks beautiful.  I have a little project to do outside today, so that will keep me out in the nice weather a bit longer.  Several years ago my husband helped me build a roost for my chickens out of bamboo poles.  Two of the four perches are broken off, so I plan to either rebuild that one or build one from scratch.  It's very small and easy, but I have no skills along those lines.  I never use power tools, am afraid of most of them, but I'm going to use the drill and try to do this on my own.

I can't remember if I ever asked whether you read much.  I love to read and always have at least one print or e-book, plus at least one audiobook going. Over the last few years I read the Thursday Murder Club series after a recommendation by a friend, and loved it.  I just saw that they are making a Netflix movie, so I am going back to the series and this time listening to the audiobooks.  I finished book two last night and it was just as enjoyable to me the second time around.

I hope that you had a good week, one more week closer to retirement! Until next week!

WOW, 2 MESSAGES! It is such a treat to see your notes, and even better that you are feeling better and getting some rest and exercise. We do usually cycle back and its good to know that you are back on track with most things. Life is meant to be enjoyed after all. I'm glad you had some fun at Halloween and also a sushi dinner to look forward to. It sounds like your newest DIL is a lovely person and a welcome addition to your life.  It can be awkward staying the night at someone else's house, however nice, so I'm glad that you felt at ease and relaxed.

It must be a terrible loss of your oldest goat. I never had a pet that long either. I know you miss seeing him in the pen. Thank goodness he didn't suffer long. It must have been heartbreaking for you to see him not be able to gte up. I pray your heart will heal one way or another. I bet your old friends will be happy to hear from you and glad to help. It makes others feel better about themselves when they can help someone else. I hope it will help you too.

Good for you with the walks and exercise. I had some walks too, even without Rachael, I could pick up the pace a bit. I rescued a nice glass outdoor table that a business had tossed out, and a fan, perfectly good. I really hate seeing stuff like that go to the landfill where it will never go away.  If I have good stuff to get rid of, I take the short drive across the neighborhood and donate it. I don't know why others don't do that, it's not hard. I did some of that last week, cleaned out folders and art stuff that I thought i might use if I decided to teach music classes again== but I am sure that I will not. I took it to the school across the street.

Massanutten week turned out just great for them all. He got over it quickly, not like he did when they were little and ruined nearly every vacation. Abi went horseback riding and Rachael, her Dad and Mark went fishing! I would like to have been a fly on the banks to see that -it must have been a hoot. Mark is an avid fisherman with his Dad, but the other 2 - not so much. It must have been fun anyway, Fiance and I were just fine too!! I did get some clean up work done that had been put off for months,

Like you, I have always been a reader. My mom taught all of us to read long before school. The library in our little town was the one air conditioned ,so we spent every summer noon time there getting our books for the week. I love Literature and writing all through school too. Nowadays, I read mostly short stories, articles about current events and spiritual material. Trying to not watch the news this week any more than necessary. I guess we will get through this somehow, but it won't be good for a lot of people. I try to focus on the good I can do in this world and let it go after that.

I hope you get outside while the weather is nice and the leaves are so pretty. i plan to this week, although there is another big funeral to get the church ready for so that will take some time. I'm not as stressed over it, but I'll be glad when my time in that role is done--it's a lot of work/time. Its Important for the family to have a nice reception though, and i know someone will do it for my family. at least they had better!!  till next time, my friend.

SadMe70 OP Saturday

Hello my friend, I hope this message is not too late for you to see! I got up earlier than usual for a weekend and had to rush my morning things because I was going to Columbia, MD for the day.  My sister turned 50 a couple of weeks ago, and we were having a lunch for her today.  It was a long drive up and back on my own, but the lunch was a lot of fun, and traffic wasn't bad at all.  I took some "cake in a cup" from my local bakery - easy to transport, variety of flavors, and so delicious!

This week has been ok overall.  I exercised each weekday, and did my Tuesday walk and my yoga class.  I continue to eat way too much junk and drink too much alcohol.  I'm 7 pounds up in the last month or so.  It's just a constant battle against myself!

I have not contacted my old friends with the goat herd.  I'm just going to watch my remaining goat and see if she seems to be doing ok.  I'm hoping the goose will be sufficient company for her.  So far I think she is ok, but this is new territory for me, so I'm not even sure how to tell.

Good for you picking up the usable items and taking them to donate! We have a church-run thrift shop here in my town that has a small loading dock on the back.  I always take stuff over there that I don't need anymore.  They don't do as much with furniture, but they take lots of other stuff.

I'm so glad the Massanutten trip went well for everyone! My mom, sisters, and I did a rental horseback ride once years ago on one of our trips.  It was a lot of fun! I am glad the others had fun fishing too!

I have all my laundry, groceries, etc. to do tomorrow since I was out all day today, but I hope to spend at least a little time outside tomorrow.  The weather has been so pretty overall!

How did the funeral preparation go? When my dad died, there was a nice reception at the church hall. Those ladies did a very nice job for us.  I know this family will appreciate your efforts!

I only had one cup of chai this morning instead of my usual two, since I was going to be in the car for a while! Tomorrow morning I will have both cups!

I hope you had a good week!

@SadMe70

Thank you for keeping me up to date with your news, which is better than the TV news! Really sad to see, I have to limit it. The reception went fine in the end, but i swear, i have NEVER had to work alongside a church member like the lady who does everything overboard, and unfortunately i did this time. I complement her for her talent and she does do a beautiful job, but she also criticizes every little thing that was my part, and sometimes redoes it. That;'s OK too, but honestly, I don't understand. She actually told me to put the napkins on the right side of the plate, and Ive never seen it done that way, and on and on. I truly cringe whenever she starts to say something to me, and it only me she talks to that way. Everyone else just loves her, hugging and smiling. I wish i could get out of that one job, but i'm the only other one who doesn't work during the week, so setting up works for me. The others do the serving and clean up because its usually on a Saturday.  She won't change and I hope no one dies anything soon! I do have some more events that don't involve her, so we will just carry on.

I am in your boat too- exercising is pretty good except its getting cold and dark and we don't walk those mornings-sometimes afternoons. but we did get to the gym. too much wine and candy/chips every night. I did try an item someone gave me and ordered more- shameless snacks gummies. 26 gr. fiber! they arnt cheap, but they do satisfy the sweet tooth and the fiber is a lot.

Back at work, and its been busy tonight. I have to go to church in the morning for healing and anointing, and the shelter meal Monday and... Thanksgiving meal to plan for church, but that will be easy and fun. I'm hoping for a break to get a little rest.

I am glad you got some little cakes for your sister and you could be together. I remember 50, and now that is a distant memory! I do hope your goat will be OK. I know our pets feel the loss too, and it does make you sad to see them sad and grieving.  I'm making it through my shift with constant comment chai tea, but its not like your 'Im sure.  Savor the moments, I'm looking forward to sleep.
