@MusicCandy @SadMe70 A place to communicate
@MusicCandy Hello! I have to get ready for work but will post more later!
So glad you are having some quality time with your son and your husband. I'm feeling better - I think it was a 24 hr. bug I. went to church today and I am taking a breather on specific food and exercise today. I already walked 10,000 steps, just work and life, but I normally walk/stair climb close to 20,000 on a double week-end shift. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week-end, and get better!
I'm so glad you are feeling better! I have not felt too bad yesterday and so far today. Still tired and plenty of extra mucous to go around, but definitely improved. I did not exercse yesterday, but I'm headed to the Y before work this morning.
My son made 3, count them, 3, sweet potato pies yesterday. We cut the first one last night and it's so delicious. The second we are taking with us tonight to dinner at a friend's house, but that still leaves 1 1/2 pies sitting around here and I know I can't resist them. I did so well at school, but I'm very weak at home.
Wow we had a great dinner last night! Our first visit to our Indian friends' home. They were so gracious, and the food was amazing. There were two meat dishes, a lentil dish, two vegetable dishes, various chutneys, and some Indian sweets. It was a huge spread and every single dish was delicious. I ate too much but other than the sweets it was all fairly healthy. Also I avoided eating the mini donuts that were at work. There is still one more sweet potato pie here at the house waiting to ambush me tonight.
I also had a good workout at the gym yesterday. Not very vigorous thanks to my neck and shoulder, but I did some weights.
How wonderful to have raised a son that can make pies! I love sweet potatoe pies too - grew up in N. C. around my grandparent's farm where "farm to table" was just normal. That dinner sounds delightful. I love lentils and pretty much any vegetable. I'll have to give the Indian cuisine another try. Good for you getting in some exercise. I had a half hr at the pool with Rachael last night - but that;s all. I still don't feel great, and now its cough/sniffles, but everyone seems to have a cold. I did get errands done today before 3-11 shift where I am now - this is an extra one to help a coworker. We all help each other so it will be my turn later.
Still, just taking it easy until I feel better. I have some spa treats the rest of this week whener I can fit them it - a sound therapy chair , a vibratherapy exercise and a salt pod float - that will be new to me. Can't wait to try it.
Both of my sons worked for a couple of summers for a local small scale bread baker who sold at farmers' markets so they are both good breakmakers. My younger son has tried some other baking too, like the pies. For Thanksgiving he made my mom's roll recipe too and did a really good job of it. He worked last summer at a Thai restaurant and has tried his hand at a couple of Thai dishes.
I am still not feeling great. I think my nasal passages and throat just don't like the cold dry air. I did the first half of a cardio interval workout online today, a whole 6 minutes. Not much but something. I received gifts from about 10 people at work this week, and most had some candy or cookies in them. I am not doing well resisting stuff that I've brought home. I think the next 2 weeks will not be good. I'd better start getting my new year's weight loss resolutions in line or I won't have any pants left that fit me soon!
Those spa treatments sound neat! I've never tried any of those! Let me know how each one goes! I am not even sure what any of those are!
The spa is a relaxing type warm atmosphere with a lot of options in her place. You can google Resonance Float & Sound for a brief description. The newest treatment is the lfloat salt pod. There aren't a lot of them yet, but its supposed to be good for your allergies and skin and a "sensory block"for the brain waves. The sound bed with earphones is also a brain thing. .I can walk there from my house, so that's a plus too. I'll let you know.
I'm with you babe on the "don't even know how to try to resist or keep goals" right now. I don't feel great either and I usually feel good most of the time. So just hang in there and we will get back on after the Holidays - at least we have each other as a reminder.
Wow all that spa stuff sounds so nice! Enjoy!!
I survived the pies only eating one piece because everyone else gobbled it down. Now he is onto making a Christmas bread that has raisins and cranberries soaked in Grand Marnier, with the dough wrapped around almond paste. It is soooo good. I ate 4 pieces last night. Sigh.
I went to the Y on Monday. No exercise Tues or Wed. Today my younger son and I are going to Washington for some sightseeing so I'll do lots of walking. Taking my ibuprofen along for my bad knee! We are touring Ford's Theater and then to the Portrait Gallery. Cross your fingers for us that we find parking at the metro station!
I saw in your other post that you had a great time with your son - so happy for you. That Christmas bread sounds like to die for - I have had something similar but it wasn't homemade. I'm afraid there would be some sipping on the side if I made it!
I just feel yucky still. Christmas Eve and at work and crazy people coming in the ER.And I'll be back for the same tomorrow. . I don't even feel like trying the stairs like usual, and that always makes me feel in a beter mood- but I'm coughing. Lots of food on counters so I am just eating mindlessly. . So it is what it is and it will get better. I am drinking cup after cup of tea so that's something. I hope you have a lovely Christmas with your family. I'll have something later with my family and by then I'll feel better!
Thinking of you on Christmas Day, giving up your day to work so others can be home, even though you don't feel well. You are a wonderful person!
We've gone through 2 rounds of the Christmas bread and opened two boxes/baskets full of treats from family or friends. Last night we went to a Thai place where my son worked this summer. The chef's wife, who does the desserts, sent out two plates of desserts for us and on the way out gave us a big box of chocolate fondant that she made. Will power is out the window. I did at least do a little exercise yesterday morning before I ate anything. There is a cardio interval workout online that I like. It's two rounds of 8 minutes and usually I only do the first round but I did the whole thing yesterday. It felt good, especially since I knew I'd be so bad the rest of the day. I started typing up some ideas for myself for the new year.
Thanks for your kind words and loving support when I have to work on Christmas. My Mom called me and said something similar. she moved into the Masonic Home last year, and thankfully it is in Richmond- she was living in Norfolk before. She is a demanding person and has NPD so it has been a challenge growing up,but I am able to handle her moods better now. She realized the sacrifice I make by working off hrs since now she in in the care of other professionals who also give up their family time.
I am feeling better, and I did my stair exercise which definitely elevated my mood anyway. I'm also debating tactics for the new year. I was reading about food sensitivity panels, and saw more questionable data than I realized. You can get a home test, but the results are not reliable or always true and not very practical. I am looking at a functional medical approach, but I haven't come upon a practioner yet. I do have a book that gives a detox/ elimination plan for 14 days that looks like it would be do-able "Zero Belly Smoothies"- it includes a detailed diet plan and tracker. I am close to trying that, but I would need a buddy for sure, since it is an exact plan- no cheating if you want real results. That would be a low to no cost way to get back on track but major committment. There's always some cost.
Enjoy the days off, and keep in touch.
