Some muscles are just boring!
Hello everybody!
So, my problem with exercise is... I like sport, I do a lot of sport actually (marathon and such), but... but it is mostly legs. Because others are just boring. So now I am trying to do some bodyweight routine, I am trying to improve my ability to do push-ups (I am getting somewhere, but it is slow) as it is a pretty basic thing for doing anything (we are talking about bodyweight exercises - I cannot afford to join a gym now, you cannot cancel in less than one year and I am likely going to move away in two months). I kinda liked boxing but no option for that now :-/
This is not just some cosmetic thing (although my ribs are visible and it just looks nasty, but no one can see that), I have scoliosis and although it does not hurt (yet), I really should have good muscles around the spine. So... I am trying to improve this >.<
@carefulBike3504 It seems like you enjoy any sport/exercise that requires you to use your legs and your legs only, explains how you enjoy marathons, what exactly do you think you are looking to do? It seems like you are wanting to broaden your range of exercises and muscles workouts, but you become easily bored working the other muscles that are not your legs? Have you tried swimming or something like triathlons? Swimming works out practically every muscle group which gives you an all-around body tone. That is awesome that you do marathons!

I think that I generally enjoy sports that are like transport (running and bicycling - I always do that outside, I've actually never tried using a treadmill or a stationary bicycle) plus both of them are easily available, while other sports require going somewhere (during specific hours) which is harder to organize plus often requires membership (I used to do fitbox, when I had to possibility to just go to some lessons when it fits my schedule).
I can't think about any appropriate sport that would not require equipment and / or gym membership. So I trying to stick with calisthenics.

As suggested above Swimming "IS" a "Great" option. (If you are able to swim, or have access to a pool) Swimming is a great low impact workout that truly works out every muscle group. Upper and Lower body..... You can try anything from swimming laps to, Aqua Zumba, to Aqua Aerobics etc.... there are alot of water programs if you are near a local community center or perhaps look online in your area for a class near you. Some allow you to pay per class, (without any type of membership).....
Honestly its about what you want to do, and what types of things you find of interest. Even Dancing... Something like Zumba perhaps? In Zumba, you are working alot of groups here as well. Even though dancing keeps you on your feet and you are working the legs, but in Zumba or Jazzercise, or Aerobics etc... you are also moving your arms ALOT!..... I teach Zumba, so I can personally vouch for that. If you want to incorporate MORE arm work, you could look for a ZUMBA 'Toning" class as well. Where you work on lifting light toning sticks or weights to work the upper body as well as working the lower..........and once again here, most classes allow you to "Pay Per Class" without membership.
And last, if you feel you need to go a "Cheaper" route, there are ALWAYS "Plenty" of videos on YOUTUBE, or PINTEREST, OR POPSUGAR FITNESS which are ALWAYS "FREE".....Also there alot of DVD's/Cd's workout videos.... you can search online and read up on the ones you would like to work with.. as well as Plenty of "Apps" to get you started to.... So you have alot of choices to work with. Good luck!
@PoliteOcean
The "pay per class" is sadly not an option now (I currently live in Germany and it is generally different), actually even joining a:s a member and going to *any* classes (or booking them online) is often not an option, and I am not able to fit into "class XXX every Tuesday 18:30-20:00".
I did not have this problem when I could "pay per class", I was doing fitbox and it was fine, but it is not an option anymore... I also like rowing, but again, same problem.
You are totally right with Youtube etc. videos, I am trying to do that, but it is like a thing I don't want to do and I am postponing that etc. - I guess that many people have this problem with exercise in general, so it is not something really special :-) I just have this problem only with some exercises.

That's so disappointing! I used to almost exclusively use drop in classes as they are known here when I had a bit of a sporadic schedule and was doing many things at a time.
Another option is to get a workout in at a playground. Lots of options there!

Maybe a good idea would be to walk to your destination or use the bike if you don`t do these already.
After you see a change and make exercising other parts of your body a part of your life, it won't be so boring. It's hard work, it's not suppose to be fun at first, that's why we fall off the wagon time and time again. When I started exercising I hated it!!!!! ITS HARD and not fun!!! However, if you keep doing it anyways, you'll improve and that's EXCITING! Improvement is what motivates me to keep going and now I freakin' love exercising. I can't imagine my life without it. It's like brushing my teeth in the morning... a must. On pinterest there are a TON of at home works outs you can do for free! :)
