Frequently Asked Questions - Group Support
by ASilentObserver
Last post
December 23rd, 2024
...See more Here are the questions that I came across during one-on-one, Group Chats, and Forum Posts. I hope you'll be able to find the answer to your query here! Please read the thread through carefully, and if your query isn't answered here, ask below or PM a member of the CM team. We will keep updating this thread to ensure frequently asked questions get answered and documented. 1. Why should I join Group Support? You should join Group Support for the following reasons- * To know you are not alone. Many others may be struggling and going through the same things as you. * To discuss your concerns, experiences, and emotions to get support. * To provide support to someone who might be going through challenging times. Join group chats to experience and find out more!  [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php] 2. Why am I unable to see any of the Group Support Chats? Probably you do not meet the criteria to unlock the group support chats yet. Please check this thread [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/NewCriteriatoAccessGroupChatsLiveNow_281153/] to learn about all the criteria you need to unlock the group chats. If you experience any challenges, you can send a direct message to @ASilentObserver [http://7cups.com/@ASilentObserver] 3. Why are group support chats badges locked? Group Support Chats are badge-locked to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for community members. We want to provide the best support to our members.  4. Where can I find the weekly schedule of the community mods? Here you can check the latest schedule [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/CommunityModeratorWeeklySchedule_1640/CommunityModScheduleWeekofJan06_214569/]of the community mods. 5. Why did I receive a warning? Please check this post [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/WhydidIgetthiswarning_44686/] to learn about it. Also, you can reach out to the moderator who warned you to discuss the reasons in a private message. To avoid warnings & mutes, please maintain supportive, inclusive, and respectful behavior in the group chats. 6. Why should I not discuss or share personal information in the group chats? We request you not share your personal or contact information as we do not allow offsite contacts. We value our member's privacy and safety. Also, it will be a violation of 7 Cups Group Chats and Community Guidelines [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/]. Read more here! [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/ObsDesk_2008/ImportantupdateonGroupSupportRooms_215418/] 7. Why can I not discuss topics like Politics, Religion, Sex, etc.? We ask you not to engage in these topics as: * They are debating topics and due to differences in opinions, it could lead to unwanted conflicts. * These topics can be uncomfortable or triggering for some of the members. * We don't want to miss an opportunity to provide support to someone in need.  * So, to ensure a friendly and supportive environment and foster inclusive participation, it is better not to discuss these topics. * But, if you are interested in discussing current events and their impact on your well-being, you can request a Community moderator to open the Current Events Group chat for you. 8. What happens if I receive a warning? A warning in itself is nothing to worry about. It does not affect your account and will expire in 6 hours. If, however, you continue to receive warnings you may be muted. You would need to be warned 3 times to receive a mute. A mute lasts for 24 hours from the time of the mute. 6 hours without a warning will clear the slate for you. 9. What happens if I get muted? The first or second mute will last for 24 hours. After this time, you will be able to use the group chats again as usual.  10. Someone is upsetting me. What should I do? If someone is being hurtful towards you, click mute/report in their message. You can personally mute them in this way, which means you will not be able to see anything they type. Additionally, you can file a report on the person if their behavior violates Community Guidelines. [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307] 11. There is a problem in the group chat. How can I contact a moderator? There are two ways you can get help: * Check in another group chat for a moderator or community moderator. * Submit an emergency help request [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6mgwzVCA-TTDzahtCH7mXdmxE5jTakstcQDWoQ_nXk2CfdA/viewform]. The emergency form is also located in the group chat rules.  12. Some members have badges beside their names. What do these mean and how can I earn one? The badges are to recognize contributions to group support. You can earn the badges by being kind and supportive in the group chat. Learn more here. [http://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/ShinyNewMemberBadges_36271/1/] 13. Where can I find out what discussions and support sessions are happening? * Take a look at the community events calendar [https://tockify.com/7cups/agenda] to find out what's on. * Alternatively, you can click on "Join live guided discussions" from the side list to see what is on right now. * You can check the community page [https://www.7cups.com/community/] to find the active discussions going on in the group chats.   14. What can moderators do? Learn about what moderators [http://www.7cups.com/forum/Welcome_27/GroupSupportChat_195/GroupSupportModeratorRole_33260/] can and cannot do in this forum post. 15. Can I leave a review for a moderator or listener in Group Support? Yes! You can leave reviews for moderators, listeners, and room supporters in the Group Support Review form. [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmfpQqScgcFxOSHveQfbP52m-XNu-DBC6oK7ieTHrGQ4hJ3w/viewform] This can be found in the group chat rules. We use the information you leave here for quality control purposes and to pass on feedback anonymously to moderators.  Or, you can simply leave a shout-out in this thread: Group Support Champions!  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/IntroducingGroupSupportChampions_326199/] 16. Who can see the reports I file? All reports now need to be submitted through the Helpdesk page [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307]. Learn more about the process here! Only the team can see the reports to review and process them as per standard protocols and guidelines.  17. How is a Community Moderator different from a volunteer moderator? Community Moderators are assigned specific time blocks while volunteer moderators participate whenever they like! Secondly, they are present to extend the support to the community leaders and community as per the needs. 18.  How can I access a doorkeeper to promote a group chat? To access the doorkeeper, there are two ways:  * You can become a group chat leader like a Room supporter, or Chatroom moderator [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/], and as the role privileges you get the doorkeeper privileges too.  * You can apply for a doorkeeper role through this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScm9ZtncP_uT2Bjl6M1t1z2jcofHdSFgGYTw-2VqCiIqBQR8A/viewform]. To be a doorkeeper, you need to host at least 5 sessions per month. Out of two, one should be in a pop-up group chat.   20) What is Sharing Circle? Sharing Circle is an hourly session where members can join a queue to get 7 minutes to share anything that’s on their minds. While that member is sharing, the rest of the group chat can send short supportive comments, but not ask questions or interrupt. If you want to know more, you can check out this post here: https://tinyurl.com/Sharing-Circles   21) Why can't people join along the Sharing Circle queue? We do not allow that because of the following potential reasons:  - The host might miss someone to include in the queue if they are busy listening and supporting the sharer.  - If the host is a community mod, then it will be hard for them to maintain a consistent queue without missing anyone as they moderate other group chats too.  - If all who are interested in joining the queue, keep typing * during a share, the sharing will get disrupted and the sharer might get distracted from the share as they will feel that no one is listening to them.  So to maintain fairness and consistency for all sharers and everyone,  we request all to be patient during the ongoing share and after the share is completed, the queue can be re-opened to invite all to join.  22) Why can't we speak other languages in group chats?  We are a global community, and group chats are inclusive spaces. As all of us are from different regions, our native language is different too. So, interacting in that language might be easier and comforting for us but others who may not know that language, will feel excluded in the group chats and may not be able to have supportive or inclusive chats with you and others.  So, to avoid such situations, we request and encourage all to use English as it is a common language to bridge our communication gap and allow us to have inclusive chats and conversations. 23) How can I apply for Group Support leadership roles?  Please check the Become a Leader - Member Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/] page to learn more about all roles, their criteria, and application form links.  24) Why is the room supporter badge not visible for Member Room Supporters?  As member account is primarily focused on getting personal support, while the room supporter role is focused on providing support and fostering supportive and inclusive conversation in the group chats. So to create a balance between both purposes where a member can get personal support as and when they can as well as able to perform room supporter’s responsibilities, we do not show the badge on member accounts. It allows members to switch to seek personal support anytime.  25) Can as a listener we can share our personal experiences?  I would say listeners can take part but remember your role is also to maintain boundaries and encourage members to share more. Ask open questions to the group to foster deep conversations with members. If you feel to share more in order to get personal support, we encourage you to switch to your member accounts to do that.  -------------------------   Some resources for you to check! - * A note on triggers in Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/InformationUpdates_822/ANoteonTriggersinGroupSupport_41379/1/] * What can I expect from a moderator? Cupsgiving 2024: Gratitude Train for Group Support
by ASilentObserver
Last post
November 23rd, 2024
...See more Hello all,  Group Support is a significant part of 7Cups to get support. I have been part of Group Support for 7 years and witnessed how it evolved into a strong, inclusive, and therapeutic place to feel comforted, heard, and empowered.  Here are the 5 key lessons I picked up from my personal experience in group support.  * We are the group support. Group Support is not the responsibility of one person or a handful of users to maintain its therapeutic environment. It is a collective effort and everyone is responsible and accountable for it. * Compassion drives group support. We have different demographics and experience diverse challenges in our daily lives. But it is our thoughtful participation and compassion that help everyone to feel encouraged and empowered. It is our compassion that allows us to listen to someone attentively and make them feel heard. Because we know what it feels like to be unheard.  * The problem is the path. It is the core value of our community and every time there is a challenge in the group support, everyone comes together to figure out a way to tackle the problem and go above and beyond in their efforts to ensure the support.  * Continuous scaling of the support. I know many members of the group support who initially joined to share and receive support and later became part of giving support to others. Many of them became listeners and many continued to support through their member accounts in the group support. Every time someone feels heard and comforted, it means more hands joined to support others. Many inspired by group support experiences, created offline support groups for their neighborhood to bring support to their block, city, or town.  * Group Support builds connections. Many members are regulars of the group support space and they built some healthy and meaningful connections to rely on for support and accountability buddies for each other. I like the way how group support fosters care, support, upliftment, and companionship.  Group support is the outcome of the efforts including members, listeners, and leaders in different group support roles. So as we celebrate Cupsgiving, join us to recognize the efforts of the entire group support with a few special mentions for their above-and-beyond efforts.  Group Support Moderation We would like to share our gratitude for all our group support moderators for their careful and eye-to-detail work in the group chats. Their above-and-beyond efforts in moderation help to foster an inclusive and uplifting environment in the group support for all. Their proactive presence and swift actions help to de-escalate any potential disruptions to the therapeutic environment. Some of the awesome moderators of 2024 are: * @Communitymodanne * @Communitymodwillow * @CommunitymodEver  * @Suryansh, and * @Kaylabella as the top 5 moderators for their contributions in responding to the moderator requests form. 280 out of 385 requests were responded to by them until now this year.  Some of the other names included in the list are CommunitymodEden, CommunitymodIris, Kenzolena, CommunitymodCharlie, Lou73, and so on. The entire community is grateful to you for your help and support and for giving us a safe space to participate and feel empowered and heard.  Also thank you to all users who reported and helped moderators to de-escalate the situations that required immediate attention. Thank you for helping us keeping the group support safe and inclusive for all. Some of the key mentions are  * @Greenimpulse * @Heartsandrosesandpaws * @Mytwistedsoul * @Hotaru419 * @SleepingPersonForever * @Nephiliminblack * @Disneywoman * @Apeatrice Listener Support Requests We are also grateful to all listener group chat leaders for their active presence and guidance in the Listener Group Support chats. Their contributions and help in responding to Listener Support Requests helped many listeners feel heard, supported, and guided on their queries. Some of the proactive leaders of 2024 so far are:  * @Heartsandrosesandpaws * @JustSophia * @Fuechsin * @Jenna * @LittleBirdie30 are the top 5 Listener Group Support Leaders who offered peer support, chat support, and guidance to 89 listeners out of 229 requests submitted through the Listener Support Request form until now in 2024.  Also a big shout out to all listeners who reach out with their questions and seek help and guidance. It is okay to ask questions. Questions help us to explore, learn, and grow, so thank you for taking steps to grow in your listener journey.  We will continue to add more gratitude shares for our group support leaders here in the upcoming days. If you notice anyone doing great work or you are grateful for their efforts, please join us and share your appreciation and gratitude for them.  Thank you for uplifting and empowering group support chats..  @suryansh @emmae @hopedreamlove @Lou73 @Heather225 @Justsophia @Kieran000 @Kenzolena

...See more Hello everyone! We are excited to announce that on September 4th, in honour of World Sexual Health Day, we will be hosting a full day of discussions centred around sexual health (for Adults Only). This day is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space where we can learn, share, and empower one another on topics that matter deeply. Why Sexual Health? Sexual health is an essential aspect of our overall well-being. By understanding and discussing it openly, we can break down barriers, challenge stigmas, and support one another in our journeys toward healthy and fulfilling lives. Venue: Special Events room (Adults). What to Expect: • Engaging Discussions: Participate in various discussions throughout the day, covering topics like sexual education, consent, safe practices, and the importance of communication in relationships. • Shared Experiences: Listen and share personal stories in a safe space, learning from one another’s experiences and insights. • Sharing of Insights: We will also have sessions led by our experienced hosts who will guide the conversations and provide valuable information. ------------------------- Guidelines for Participation To ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone during these discussions, please adhere to the following guidelines: 1. Respect for All: Approach every conversation with respect and kindness. Avoid making assumptions about others’ experiences or identities. 2. Consent to Share: Share your own experiences and thoughts only if you’re comfortable. No one is obligated to participate beyond their comfort level. 3. Trigger Warnings: If your comment may contain sensitive content, please include a trigger warning at the beginning. This helps others navigate the conversation safely. 4. Avoid Graphic Details: While open discussions are encouraged, please refrain from sharing explicit or graphic details that may be distressing to others. 5. Focus on Learning: This event is about mutual learning and support. Approach discussions with an open mind and be willing to listen to different perspectives. 6. ...See more Hello all As we completed the "Kindness, Courage, Connection" group support event, [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/GroupSupportCommunityEvents_2295/FebruaryGroupSupportEventKindnessCourageConnection_323080/] I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the collective efforts we made to raise awareness and foster discussions around: * Safer Internet Week: We covered the importance of creating a safe and positive online environment, fostering digital responsibility, and promoting respectful interactions. * Random Acts of Kindness Week: We celebrated the power of kindness, big and small, and its ability to create positive change in our communities and within ourselves. * Eating Disorder Awareness Week: We discussed the sensitive topic of eating disorders, raising awareness, promoting understanding, and fostering support for individuals struggling with these issues. The event was a good start, filled with insightful discussions and a sense of empowerment and belonging. It wasn't just a month-long endeavor but it served as a springboard for ongoing support.  We hosted a total of 96 sessions throughout the month for these events I was moved by the courage all shared in sharing their experiences and the kindness & support they offered one another. Also a special thank you to everyone for your efforts and encouragement: * The hosts and content creators: Your dedication, insights, and support led the way for meaningful conversations and created a safe space for sharing. Thank you to @rebekah, @KristenHR, @Fristo, @danCat1128 & team for your collaborative efforts, leadership, and careful efforts to make this event possible.  * The participants: Your active participation, open minds, empowerment, and willingness to share your stories made the discussions meaningful and impactful. Here are some of my key takeaways from this event: * The power of connection: Through sharing our stories and experiences, we create a sense of belonging and support, reminding everyone that they are not alone and we are together in this journey. * The importance of kindness: Simple acts of kindness can have a profound impact on ourselves and others, creating a ripple effect of positivity throughout our communities. * The need for awareness: By openly discussing topics like online safety and eating disorders, we can break down stigma, encourage open dialogue, and share resources with those in need. Also, the winners of the Share Your Positivity for Safer Internet Week Contest [https://www.7cups.com/forum/safe7cups/IVSafetyResourcesEvents_1059/ShareYourPositivityforSaferInternetWeekContest_323230/] are @YourCaringConfidant  & @Takitoteka with 11 & 9 upvotes. Everyone loved their balanced effort of creativity and spreading awareness in a caring way. Congratulations to both!  Please know that each individual has the power to make a difference. We encourage you to continue sharing your experiences, engaging in open dialogue, and seeking resources to support yourself and others. Let's continue the journey together and inspire others to join us in creating a kinder, more supportive world, one step at a time. T h a n k  Y o u  T e a m!!! 🙏🙏🙏
