Frequently Asked Questions - Group Support
by ASilentObserver
Last post
...See more Here are the questions that I came across during one-on-one, Group Chats, and Forum Posts. I hope you'll be able to find the answer to your query here! Please read the thread through carefully, and if your query isn't answered here, ask below or PM a member of the CM team. We will keep updating this thread to ensure frequently asked questions get answered and documented. 1. Why should I join Group Support? You should join Group Support for the following reasons- * To know you are not alone. Many others may be struggling and going through the same things as you. * To discuss your concerns, experiences, and emotions to get support. * To provide support to someone who might be going through challenging times. Join group chats to experience and find out more!  [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php] 2. Why am I unable to see any of the Group Support Chats? Probably you do not meet the criteria to unlock the group support chats yet. Please check this thread [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/NewCriteriatoAccessGroupChatsLiveNow_281153/] to learn about all the criteria you need to unlock the group chats. If you experience any challenges, you can send a direct message to @ASilentObserver [http://7cups.com/@ASilentObserver] 3. Why are group support chats badges locked? Group Support Chats are badge-locked to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for community members. We want to provide the best support to our members.  4. Where can I find the weekly schedule of the community mods? Here you can check the latest schedule [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/CommunityModeratorWeeklySchedule_1640/CommunityModScheduleWeekofJan06_214569/]of the community mods. 5. Why did I receive a warning? Please check this post [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/WhydidIgetthiswarning_44686/] to learn about it. Also, you can reach out to the moderator who warned you to discuss the reasons in a private message. To avoid warnings & mutes, please maintain supportive, inclusive, and respectful behavior in the group chats. 6. Why should I not discuss or share personal information in the group chats? We request you not share your personal or contact information as we do not allow offsite contacts. We value our member's privacy and safety. Also, it will be a violation of 7 Cups Group Chats and Community Guidelines [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/]. Read more here! [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/ObsDesk_2008/ImportantupdateonGroupSupportRooms_215418/] 7. Why can I not discuss topics like Politics, Religion, Sex, etc.? We ask you not to engage in these topics as: * They are debating topics and due to differences in opinions, it could lead to unwanted conflicts. * These topics can be uncomfortable or triggering for some of the members. * We don't want to miss an opportunity to provide support to someone in need.  * So, to ensure a friendly and supportive environment and foster inclusive participation, it is better not to discuss these topics. * But, if you are interested in discussing current events and their impact on your well-being, you can request a Community moderator to open the Current Events Group chat for you. 8. What happens if I receive a warning? A warning in itself is nothing to worry about. It does not affect your account and will expire in 6 hours. If, however, you continue to receive warnings you may be muted. You would need to be warned 3 times to receive a mute. A mute lasts for 24 hours from the time of the mute. 6 hours without a warning will clear the slate for you. 9. What happens if I get muted? The first or second mute will last for 24 hours. After this time, you will be able to use the group chats again as usual.  10. Someone is upsetting me. What should I do? If someone is being hurtful towards you, click mute/report in their message. You can personally mute them in this way, which means you will not be able to see anything they type. Additionally, you can file a report on the person if their behavior violates Community Guidelines. [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307] 11. There is a problem in the group chat. How can I contact a moderator? There are two ways you can get help: * Check in another group chat for a moderator or community moderator. * Submit an emergency help request [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6mgwzVCA-TTDzahtCH7mXdmxE5jTakstcQDWoQ_nXk2CfdA/viewform]. The emergency form is also located in the group chat rules.  12. Some members have badges beside their names. What do these mean and how can I earn one? The badges are to recognize contributions to group support. You can earn the badges by being kind and supportive in the group chat. Learn more here. [http://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/ShinyNewMemberBadges_36271/1/] 13. Where can I find out what discussions and support sessions are happening? * Take a look at the community events calendar [https://tockify.com/7cups/agenda] to find out what's on. * Alternatively, you can click on "Join live guided discussions" from the side list to see what is on right now. * You can check the community page [https://www.7cups.com/community/] to find the active discussions going on in the group chats.   14. What can moderators do? Learn about what moderators [http://www.7cups.com/forum/Welcome_27/GroupSupportChat_195/GroupSupportModeratorRole_33260/] can and cannot do in this forum post. 15. Can I leave a review for a moderator or listener in Group Support? Yes! You can leave reviews for moderators, listeners, and room supporters in the Group Support Review form. [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmfpQqScgcFxOSHveQfbP52m-XNu-DBC6oK7ieTHrGQ4hJ3w/viewform] This can be found in the group chat rules. We use the information you leave here for quality control purposes and to pass on feedback anonymously to moderators.  Or, you can simply leave a shout-out in this thread: Group Support Champions!  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/IntroducingGroupSupportChampions_326199/] 16. Who can see the reports I file? All reports now need to be submitted through the Helpdesk page [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307]. Learn more about the process here! Only the team can see the reports to review and process them as per standard protocols and guidelines.  17. How is a Community Moderator different from a volunteer moderator? Community Moderators are assigned specific time blocks while volunteer moderators participate whenever they like! Secondly, they are present to extend the support to the community leaders and community as per the needs. 18.  How can I access a doorkeeper to promote a group chat? To access the doorkeeper, there are two ways:  * You can become a group chat leader like a Room supporter, or Chatroom moderator [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/], and as the role privileges you get the doorkeeper privileges too.  * You can apply for a doorkeeper role through this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScm9ZtncP_uT2Bjl6M1t1z2jcofHdSFgGYTw-2VqCiIqBQR8A/viewform]. To be a doorkeeper, you need to host at least 5 sessions per month. Out of two, one should be in a pop-up group chat.   20) What is Sharing Circle? Sharing Circle is an hourly session where members can join a queue to get 7 minutes to share anything that’s on their minds. While that member is sharing, the rest of the group chat can send short supportive comments, but not ask questions or interrupt. If you want to know more, you can check out this post here: https://tinyurl.com/Sharing-Circles   21) Why can't people join along the Sharing Circle queue? We do not allow that because of the following potential reasons:  - The host might miss someone to include in the queue if they are busy listening and supporting the sharer.  - If the host is a community mod, then it will be hard for them to maintain a consistent queue without missing anyone as they moderate other group chats too.  - If all who are interested in joining the queue, keep typing * during a share, the sharing will get disrupted and the sharer might get distracted from the share as they will feel that no one is listening to them.  So to maintain fairness and consistency for all sharers and everyone,  we request all to be patient during the ongoing share and after the share is completed, the queue can be re-opened to invite all to join.  22) Why can't we speak other languages in group chats?  We are a global community, and group chats are inclusive spaces. As all of us are from different regions, our native language is different too. So, interacting in that language might be easier and comforting for us but others who may not know that language, will feel excluded in the group chats and may not be able to have supportive or inclusive chats with you and others.  So, to avoid such situations, we request and encourage all to use English as it is a common language to bridge our communication gap and allow us to have inclusive chats and conversations. 23) How can I apply for Group Support leadership roles?  Please check the Become a Leader - Member Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/] page to learn more about all roles, their criteria, and application form links.  24) Why is the room supporter badge not visible for Member Room Supporters?  As member account is primarily focused on getting personal support, while the room supporter role is focused on providing support and fostering supportive and inclusive conversation in the group chats. So to create a balance between both purposes where a member can get personal support as and when they can as well as able to perform room supporter’s responsibilities, we do not show the badge on member accounts. It allows members to switch to seek personal support anytime.  25) Can as a listener we can share our personal experiences?  I would say listeners can take part but remember your role is also to maintain boundaries and encourage members to share more. Ask open questions to the group to foster deep conversations with members. If you feel to share more in order to get personal support, we encourage you to switch to your member accounts to do that.  -------------------------   Some resources for you to check! - * A note on triggers in Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/InformationUpdates_822/ANoteonTriggersinGroupSupport_41379/1/] * What can I expect from a moderator? Post #2: Clarification on the Community Leader Badge
by ASilentObserver
Last post
...See more Hello everyone, I hope you are all taking care of your well-being. If you have spent time in the group support chats, you may have likely seen some members with a Community Leader role listed under their usernames.  Community Leader is a badge that acts as an umbrella for all group chat badges that used to be visible in the rooms. You can read more about it here.  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/GroupSupportInformationandUpdates_822/WhatistheCommunityLeaderBadge_305740/] But this post is to address a challenge that members with the Community Leader badge have been experiencing lately. We received some feedback that they are seen as people who can’t have challenges if they possess this badge. This is a common misconception. The badge is actually a form of recognition to appreciate the above-and-beyond efforts of a member for their compassionate support in the group chats through certain activities like hosting a Sharing Circle session. It is a token of gratitude and an umbrella badge for some of the badges they might hold due to their group chat activities. Here is the list of all roles/ badges that fall under it.  [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B1mgSyCwIYJzeli0bqK2QTB3mRATiBu3DkaYz6lo6h4/] However, it doesn’t mean a member with the CL badge can’t have struggles or can be less than any other member to get support in the group chats. A member is a member first and a community leader second. We hope this clears it up! I hope this helps. So let’s continue to be kind and supportive to them like other members as well as recognize and appreciate their dedication. Let’s continue to care for each other and be part of each other’s healing and recovery journey.

I don't know how to help my husband, he suffers from depression and anxiety and I'm trying to recover from my cesarean section.

...See more I have had difficult days and sometimes I lose strength. I do not want to be selfish but sometimes I can not. I do not know how to help my husband. I do everything wrong. He wants me to be his support and give him peace but I always make mistakes and that makes him feel bad and he drinks and tells me the worst rudeness I have ever heard. I came to think that I deserve it, that I am the bad one. Little things that for me are for him trigger an ugly fight. If I do not fix my hair, if I talk about the news, if I went to buy him a meal, if I tell him not to drink but to do exercises, etc. Since my pregnancy I do not sleep. I dealt with his possible suicide, that caused me to have a premature birth. Then in my recovery I could not because first there are his crises and since I do everything wrong, I have no one to turn to because I do not want his family to see him badly, my soul is shattered, he has treated me like the worst woman. I do not know what to do.

Is it possible to mute a moderator?
by Antonio7Cups
Last post
August 31st
...See more I've seen this question asked and briefly answered in rooms quite a few times, but I certainly think it's best to answer the question and clarify the answer: To the question: Is it possible to mute a moderator? the answer is: No, it's not possible. The main function of moderators in a chat room is to ensure compliance with the rules of that room. It's important to remember that each room in 7 Cups has its own specific rules depending on the purpose or topics discussed in each chat room. So, how could moderators effectively fulfill their duty if they could be muted by anyone? I've made up an example, so that it can be better understood why a moderator cannot be muted: A Newbie, who is a user who has been in the community for less than a month, starts writing all of his messages in capital letters. As you may know, regardless of the chat room, you cannot write in all caps because this could be triggering for some members/listeners, as among other things, it could be interpreted as you are shouting. When someone breaks a community rule, they are given two or three reminders before being given a warning, as we believe that sometimes it is less difficult to address things through verbal reminders. Imagine that the user Newbie had muted the moderator before they started typing in all caps. Well, this would mean that the user Newbie would not be able to see the reminders provided by the moderator, and therefore, since the user Newbie would not notice the reminders, they would continue typing in all caps. In the end, all this would lead to the moderator having no choice but to give them the warning. However, this would lead to an even bigger misunderstanding, as the Newbie would see on them screen that he had received a warning and would not know why he had received it, as he had muted the moderator and could not see the reminders prior to the warning and moderators cannot customize the texts that appear when a warning is placed, they are predetermined texts depending on the reason for the warning you select. ------------------------- If you know someone who has this question, don't hesitate to tag them in this post or share the link to the post. I hope this text has been helpful to you. ❤️ Greetings, Antonio. (Group Support Teen Star) Tagging some people I think would be interested in this post: @ASilentObserver @Suryansh @Lou73

Guide to finding a moderator for a session.
by Antonio7Cups
Last post
August 30th
...See more Sometimes finding a moderator for a session that requires one can be a real challenge, whether it's due to availability, time zone differences, or other reasons. After all, we are a global community, and like everything, it has its advantages and disadvantages. Today, I want to share with you all some methods that can help you find a moderator for your session easily. It is important to emphasize that these are just methods, and that this post does not guarantee 100% that there will always be a moderator available for your session. First method: Find a Community Moderator and send them a message letting them know that you need moderation for a session. Community Moderators are 7 Cups employees whose sole function is to moderate 7 Cups chat rooms, nothing more than that. If you want to know more information about Community Mods and their role, you can check it out here: https://tinyurl.com/CommunityModInfo One way to find one that is active, since as employees, they have their schedule, is to check the Community Mod Schedule and see which Community Moderator is active. Remember that, the time will always be in Eastern Time (ET). You can use a time converter to convert your country's time to ET or vice versa. Below is a link to a converter created by @rarelycharlie that does this easily: https://rarelycharlie.github.io/7cupstime In the schedule post you will also find a list of Community Moderators, so you can find out how to contact them by looking at the schedule. Here is the link to check the schedule: https://tinyurl.com/CommunityModSchedule If this doesn't work for you, since you sent a message to the Community Mod and they didn't reply, try looking for them in the chat rooms and ask them something like: Hi "Community Mod", I need your help please, can I message you privately? After all, the work area of Community Mods are the chat rooms, and many times they must be so busy with moderation that they can't be checking their private messages constantly, since they don't know if someone is messaging them about something really important, really important, so important that they are absent for a moment from their main function, the moderation of the chat rooms. Second method: Find someone who is like a Community Moderator, but a volunteer. Community Moderators are Global Moderators, that is, they moderate all the Group Support chat rooms of the 7 Cups. The good news is that there are also Global Moderators in 7 Cups who are volunteers, that is, they perform the same function as a Community Moderator but without expecting any benefit. It is true that volunteer Global Moderators, if they are not mentors for a listener room, will not be able to moderate in the listener chat rooms, they will only be able to moderate the rooms intended for members. And you may ask yourself: How can I find or identify a Global Mod? Well, Global Moderators wear a badge called "Group Mod" on their profile page. To find a Global Moderator, you can click on the link below, where you will see a list of Global Moderators: https://tinyurl.com/GlobalModList If you see a green dot on someone's profile picture, it means they are active and free and therefore more likely to get back to you quickly. If the dot appears yellow, it means they are busy. If the dot appears red, it mostly means they are not online. However, it never hurts to message the people on that list as a last resort even if the dot appears red, since many people can put their dot in red and be online, since that can be changed manually by the user. Note: Community Moderators will also appear on that list, since both volunteers and 7 Cups employees are considered Global Moderators and will therefore always have the same badge. Third method: Use the Group Support Moderator/Doorkeeper Request form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6mgwzVCA-TTDzahtCH7mXdmxE5jTakstcQDWoQ_nXk2CfdA/viewform] (clickable). This form is used, among other things, to notify a moderator to open/close a room at the start or end of a session. It is important that you always check the "Need help to open or close a group chat" option in the first question and that you also fill out all the required information so that your request can be processed successfully and everything goes correctly. In the last question, where you are asked if you have any comments, say that you need moderation for the entire session and anything else specific that the moderator has to do, if the rules of that session ask for it, such as putting up a banner or anything else. It is understood that since this is a form also used for emergencies in the chat rooms, there must be a quick response, normally a maximum of 15 minutes. I hope this guide has been helpful to you! Please, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me [https://www.7cups.com/@Antonio7Cups]. Sincerely, Antonio. (Group Support Teen Star)
