What's your disability?
I have a learning disability.
What is the most difficult part of your disability?
For me its being slow when my brain sometimes either moves toooo fast or not fast enough and I have to take longer on stuff.
I was put on disability for PTSD and OCD. My diagnoses a bit later on were GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) & SZA (schizoaffective disorder). I also have chronic derealization, and my pdoc knows about it and recognizes it as a symptom, but hasn't diagnosed me with anything related to it as of yet.
I was born with flat back syndrome, which means that the natural curve of my spine is partially missing. During the past few years it started to develope into scoliosis, because the muscles on my back are underdeveloped, because of the syndrome. I was diagnosed a bit over a year ago. There is not much information available (which really, really annoys me!), but according to what I found and according to my physical therapist this is also the reason for the pain in my hands and in my right leg. In the future it's probably going to get worse. It's probably going to affect my nerves and cause me problems walking.
I'm used to it, because I don't know anything else. But it would be really cool, if there was somebody with the same diagnosis. I feel kind of alone. Most of the time "flat back syndrome" is caused by a surgery gone wrong or by cancer or arthritis, but I was just born with it. There just is no cause in my case. I want someone to talk to, someone who might understand what my life is like.
@sincerePark336 I hope you find others! Go ahead and start a new topic too, it might make it easier for those who have this to connect.
I have 10% of my vision caused by a degenerative condition called cone dystrophy. What vision I do have is grey scale and I have to wear sunglasses while inside, and double up on them if I go out into natural light (I also have to wear a baseball cap to keep the light from getting in through the gap at the top of my glasses)
@greyjay98 Welcome! Did you choose your user name in relationship to your disability?
@AffyAvo Nah, it's a really old handle I picked back when I was a kid because Bluejay was taken at the time, it's just sorta come with me since then for this that or the other thing. Although it is sort of a funny coincidence huh?
Multiple personality disorder. Anxiety attacks. depression. pansexual (lol), Paraniod. trauma has me crying all the time.
@Mistyhidesthepain1003 Aww sorry you felt like pansexual belongs here, but I can understand that being 'disabling' in some situations. I hope you find some good ways to cope, it sounds like you're having a rough time.
Deaf, blind/low vision, vertigo, spasms, knee weakness
@BadgerPurple I've only had acute problems with my hearing and sight. Many of the tools I see tend to rely on one to accomodate for the other. Do you mind if I ask how you manage having both low site and being deaf?
@AffyAvo hello,
I have enough residual hearing to understand speech face-face or closed captioning required or transcript. I use sign language mostly though here that isnt doable. I do use hearing aids but rarely only for work or important events.
I also have enough residual sight to see things on here or computer. I use magnification tool to enlarge text or invert screen to the colour of my preference (black background white text).
@BadgerPurple Thanks for sharing the things that work for you!
i have Marfan Syndrome, depression, anxiety
I have High Functioning Autism
@TaylorTheLemonSlayer Welcome!
My main disabilities are Chronic Migranes, Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, Gastroparesis, and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction.
@ThatRedhead28 Migrain + Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome + Gastropariesis sounds like a combo that could really overlap amplifying symptoms.
Autism spectrum disorder
In some ways it's not a disablility at all. It just means I'm a bit different and it can cause some communication problems if I'm not careful.
Undiagnosed gallbladder- and bowel related illness
