Disability Support Community Yearly Review!
Over the past year I have had the privilege to hold the roles of Community Mentor Leader (leading the forums), and Group Support Mentor, (leading the rooms) of the Disability Community. We have grown from strength to strength. We have covered many topics and had many discussions, promoted many Awareness Days, as well as interviewed many different people about their disability or illness.
Team - We are a small Team and I would like to recognise @AffyAvo as our Community Mentor who has been a pleasure to work with. Also @compassionateMoon4024 joined us as a Room Supporter.
We are always actively seeking more people to join our Team, member or listener, so please ask us if you are interested or for more information please read more about us here:- Join Our Team!
Interviews - We are looking for more people to be interviewed about their disability or condition and how it affects their life so that others may learn more. Feel free to pm myself https://www.7cups.com/@MistyMagic or https://www.7cups.com/@AffyAvo or fill in our form here https://forms.gle/Hcgt979FuFLnL4gy7 The interviews are anonymous for listeners and can be anonymous for members too if you do not wish to be recognised. You've been doing such an amazing job with posting all these amazing threads and raising awareness for so many conditions. It's been a pleasure reading your posts. Thank you so much for your work!

To be honest, I'm not looking forward to 2025. I predict more austerity and almost surely a global economic collapse for countries whose reserve currency is in USD and not their own dollars, given incoming drastic economic changes (trade wars, sanctions) which - if implemented as promised - would inflate the USD, cause a recession or even the next Great Depression, and an inevitable bailout to protect the richest from losing their businesses and profits.
More cuts to social security seem likely. Which means even more of a struggle for people with disabilities.
@Zeraphim I understand where you were coming from and you are most probably right.
Can I just say though that one thing I have learned (the hard way too) is that the only thing I can always change is my perspective and the way I react to events, changes, pain, more bad news. Soooo I do try and remain positive as much as I can.
@Zeraphim. In the US during our election it was promised that there would be no cuts to social security. I’m holding on to hope that it is true.
@Zeraphim Try not to catastrophize. '25 will have challenges for sure, but I don't think a total economic collapse is in the cards. We will have a recession at some point, whether it's in 2025 or later. What people don't understand is that recession is a part of economic cycles.
In 1929, just before the market collapse which led to the Great Depression, the stock market was valued at 81% of US GDP. It fell to 21% in 1933.
The US stock market is valued at over 200% of US GDP today.
The US stock market is inflated more than double the country's GDP. Tax cuts for the rich risks it will only inflate further. A prominent US hedge fund manager Mark Spitznagel, credited with correctly predicting the crashes in 2000 and 2008, calls it the greatest bubble in human history and says it's close to bursting.
Billionaires have been quietly selling off billions of dollars worth of stocks, including Warren Buffett and his investment team at Berkshire Hathaway, selling off a total $166 billion in stocks in 2022-2023. The Buffett Indicator, which is used to determine if the market is in a bubble, is named after him. And he warned investors a decade ago about the US stock market rising over 100% of GDP.
Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk have all cashed out billions of dollars of investments in their own companies.
The US Dollar is the world's reserve currency. When the Great Depression
happened, it affected the entire world economy. The US currently accounts for
nearly 70% of the leading global stock index, MSCI World.
The US economy itself is incredibly financialized. It doesn't produce much. And top picks for the next US government includes many billionaires. They don't have the incentive to take on Wall Street. The line must continue going up, until it doesn't.
Yes, a market correction is inevitable. However, it is almost certain that - at some point in the near future - the bubble will burst. The alternative is for the stock market to inflate even further, compounding the problem. There will likely be a bailout, just like there was in 2008. The US economy depends on reinflating that bubble through the US Treasury after a crash. And just like the bubble itself, that bailout will also be the biggest in human history, and just like in 2008, it will come at the expense of everyone but the rich.
But okay, I guess I'm just "catastrophizing."
