Getting Older
Everytime my birthday comes I tell myself that I'm leveling up in the game of Life. I have stronger armor, a long list of skills, and more potions than ever. I'm happy to get older/survive this earthly world. My hit points are high and it takes alot to knock me down. I know how to persevere through pain. I have a disabled parking permit, natural silver highlights, and unwanted facial hair that I battle regularly. I am a daughter, mother, friend, and a lover. I'm happy to wake up and breath every day and I'll continue to feel that way with every passing day until the Final Boss calls me home.
So...how are you?
@SweetPea321
Hi there SweetPea321!
Happy birthday to you ππ!!
Thanks for spreading such positiveness and good vibes π
Love your thread!!
Thanks. My birthday passed awhile ago. Just was thinking about getting older when I received my disability parking permit. Getting older doesn't have to be all that bad. It's good to accept it and be happy for each day we get.
Hope you're having a lovely day.
@SweetPea321
Sounds good to have this perspective, glad you feel that way π
Another day has passed, so I just got older lol.
@SweetPea321
Getting older seems to be about adjusting too loss.
Loss of friends and loved ones due to the progression of time.
Loss of ones physical abilities with the new and added bonus of constant physical pain.
Loss of income potential due to reduced abilities mentality and physically.
Loss of hope for life to get better.
I once hoped to retire and do great things afterwards but that seems to have been a pipe dream.
Loss is experienced throughout life, but I hear what you are saying. Thanks for your perspective. There's still plenty to be thankful for as we get older. You get to see your kids grow up, and their kids grow up, and if you live long enough, you get to see great grand kids.
I, myself, am middle aged and dealing with Loss of my parents. My Dad passed in May and my mother is on hospice.
How are you?
@SweetPea321 Wow, it sounds like you have a wonderful perspective on birthdays and life ππ¦ΈββοΈ You have strong armor, a list of skills, and lots of potions to help you face any challenges that come your way. It's amazing to hear that you're happy to get older and that you're grateful for each day you wake up and breathe. You're a warrior who knows how to persevere through pain! πͺ
Good evening. It's just past 5:30 here. I am relaxing after going to the YMCA. The water felt good on my bad knee. Especially the whirlpool. My days haven't always been bright. During the winter, I went through a bad depression wave, but I knew that it would end eventually and things would be ok. And they are! Sometimes you just gotta tell yourself to hang in there. My daughter and I go to the Y on M, W, F. It's been a good thing to keep us busy. I'm PCA for my own daughter (she's autistic) so I don't have an outside job.
How are you today?
@SweetPea321 If you tell yourself all that & believe it, congrats. My birthdays are nowhere near as positive...tbh, I don't see a reason to celebrate any past 35.
@SweetPea321
Yay for silence π
I also appreciate it, silence is surely part of good me-time moments! So relaxing and inspiring! Good to meditate and to reflect on things calmly!
Right now I'm relaxing with music on. I'm listening to Pandora's Oldies station. The Oldies station and Chill Out radio are my favorites. I grew up listening to Oldies because my parents listened to them. I like all genres of music, but current music is just boring to me. I can find a song here or there that's good, but the majority just doesn't appeal to me. I don't like autotune.
@SweetPea321
Hey thanks for sharing your preference for music!! πΆπ΅
Thumbs up to you for choosing to go for what you like more, that way you can enjoy music fully π
Yep. Autotune, drum tracks, anything-tracks...bleh. I hear you on that. Techno/house stuff is good when I'm in the mood for it. But most of the time I don't want to hear anything that mindless & synthetic.
Today is my youngest daughter's birthday. I took her to a movie, Elemental, and at the end of it I waited for everybody to leave before we left because I knew I would make an old people noise getting up out of the low chair. My poor bone on bone arthritis knee can't handle low chairs. #stillgettingolder
@SweetPea321
You really makes my day by your positive views towards life after dealing with alot of problems in the life..you are indeed a good human being
Thank for the kind words. I'm good and bad. Like anybody else I suppose π€ Today I brought my mother's ashes home and I've been putting together a Memories book for her memorial. Life is full of so many memories. They can't take those away from us when our loved ones pass away. The death of my parents this year reminds me to stop and smell the roses and be in the present.
@SweetPea321
Hello, thank you for sharing this with us. I like how even though you mostly had positive thoughts, you still incorporated something that you didn't like, but in a way that you kind of implied " It;s okay that I have unwanted facial hair, even if this bothers me sometimes, I have many other things to remind me that I'll push through this "
I personally am feeling okay today. Especially coming on here helps sometimes. Thank you for asking :)
You're welcome π I enjoy this board as well. Yeah we can't let depression keep us down. It can get us down, but we gotta keep trying to rise up. I've had some depression waves that lasted for awhile, especially during winter. This summer my daughter and I are staying busy so that's been good for my mental health.
I found out that the anti-psychotic Risperidone I was taking was causing my prolactin to go up and that could be contributing to the facial hair. My psych provider switched me to a different drug.
