@mary31 I just turn 13 and languages are fun to learn because they have different thoughts if that makes sense. I was born in Spain but on the east coast so no one spoke portuguese where I lived then.

Hello everyone!

I'm String. I come from Colorado in the United States. I am fluent in English, mostly fluent in French, and I can read Spanish. I am working hard to learn Japanese, and if I ever find the time, I would like to go back to working on Russian, Greek, and Irish Gaelic, which I tried to teach myself years ago but at that point I did not have any resources to learn from other than the occasional book at the public library.

Hey String!

That's brilliant that you're interested in so many languages! I hope you find time to learn them!

@HarveyM All of them! :D

Ireland, returning to France, New Zealand, and Japan are my top countries to visit, but I would love to go just about everywhere and see and learn. I am absolutely fascinated by other cultures, but I hate being perceived like those Americans who just gawk at things like it's all somehow for their entertainment. I genuinely would love to be able to understand and be comfortable in different cultures, but being a white American girl makes it difficult sometimes to integrate with other cultures because there are so many stereotypes (albeit justified ones in most cases). Where would you like to visit?

Wow! That's a nice list!

I'm sorry to hear you feel stereotyped at times, though!

I'd like to revisit Milan, Italy and New York, Seychelles and Sweden!

@HarveyM Hola,

*Abrazos*

@HarveyM Sorry I need to stick to English so I can learn it correctly. I was thinking in Spanish last night and it is so much easier than English just because it is my first language. Even mommy will not speak spanish to me so I can think in English unless i am upset. Still you keep learning spanish and I will keep learning English. hopefully I will get it right one day smiley.

@staywithyou I know spanish and french but I am not good at teaching. the best way is to go to Spain or France and just listen but you can do that maybe with books or other things maybe they have some things on the television in spanish or french. You will not understand it of course but that is the point because then you start to work it out slowly until you get some of it then it will come quickly. So it is like you are a baby and you have to learn it so you can under stand rather than comparing it to the language you know now if that make sense. That is why my mommy only speaks English to me here so i can work it out and then know it. but if think of the word desayuno and think that means breakfast so say breakfast because i am trying to speak English then it means a different thing. Like desayuno is the morning meal in Spain but it has a different image and meaning that breakfast does in canada.

Wow!! That is sooo cool that you speak Spanish and French!! It will be nice if I can go to Spain or Frence one day. Yep, I do think going to the country does help. That's how I learn English. :P :P <3

@staywithyou You learnt English you can learn Spanish and French when you go there, most people do speak English in both Spain and France but try to just listen and feel the sounds smiley even if you do not under stand what people are saying you can see how they are different from what you know. Like music you do not know how to play the sounds but to learn you first have to know what sounds what can be made.

Hey y'all!

I'm from Ohio in the United States. English is the only language I'm fluent in, but I speak some Italian and can understand some Spanish though I can't really speak it. I'd like to learn Irish Gaelic and Japanese someday, too!

I've been to Italy and Ireland (my dad was from Dublin!), and I'd love to go back to both places as well as Japan someday. :) I'm also interested in moving to Canada, but I haven't committed to the idea yet.

I do like the US as well, I'd really like to go to New York again!
