Talk back to your worries!

blossombreathe March 25th, 2017

Hello Everyone! laugh

The lovely @ZizyTheTurtle and I decided we would collaborate together to create a positive thread where you talk back to your worries! heart

Anxiety is a type of fear usually associated with the thought of a threat or something happening in the future, but can also arise from something happening in the present moment.

Negative self-talk is a major contributor to daily anxiety. Because its routine for most people, some dont even realize that theyre doing it. It can often result from long-held fears and worries.

What can be done to counter these negative thoughts about ourselves, our future, and the world in general? The answer: talking back to your worries.

In this forum thread, you will be able to voice your worries to the community while also showing others how youre combating your negative thoughts.

Important note:
If you dont know how to respond positively to your worries and try to overcome them, one of the forum supporters will help you see what youre worrying about in a different light. Just give it a go! (there are no wrong answers)

An example of this would be:

Thought: Im worried about seeing my niece for the first time tomorrow. She might not like me.

Positive replacement: Its okay to feel like this. I get to feel more connected with my family and enjoy precious time with them. I care about her and will have a great day!

Thank you for reading this thread: wed love to hear your positive responses!

I often feel that I am so different from everyone else and no one else has my back.

I can use these moments to present a different perspective to others and, perhaps change their minds.

@redpill I've always been different. I was bullied for it all throughout gradeschool because of it. I've learned to embrase it though, my strange qualities make me unique and that means I have a view and perspective on life that others don't. It makes us special.

@ComfortKitten

Sorry to hear about your bullying. I've dealt with that, too. There are times where I'm glad that I don't just fall in line with everyone else. But, there are many more times where I feel complete disconnected and incompatible with everyone around me. That's when I become overwhelmed with anxiety and depression. There's a lot to be said for looking at the positives, since it's easier to just focus on the negatives. Thanks for the encouragement 😉

@redpill I can completely understand the anxiety and depression. I am 30 now and I guess I've just learned to accept who I am and I've noticed that through embracing it I actually draw people in. I can also turn some people off at first, those who only see the initial outward expression and don't take the time to get to know all of my depths. That is still painful, I haven't quite accepted that not everyone will like me though it's just a reality.

@redpill

Definitely! Being different is not a bad thing. It's great to be unique and bring something new to the table. ♥

@redpill

Difference is what makes us unique. It is what makes us not robots or carbon copies of our parents or our friends. It is what makes us wonderful.

I agree. Feeling pain is okay and you will get through this no matter how strongly you feel that you won't. Keep your chin up! ♥

I am a model but hell i am so insecure. Ever since i was a child i worry people would not find me okay and modelling just gives me pressure as well and i begin to hate myself coz of that

@7tea

Being a model isn't easy. It's literally your job to get judged, so it's no wonder that it might worry you! Remember that you're awesome enough to have made it this far, though, so you must be doing something right. ♥

I have recently been bullied severely for being a lesbian. I have been removed from the situation but I have had to leave a group of friends and a space within school that I was comfortable with. Even before I came out, I was bullied just for being different. People used to yell things across the street at me before I moved and I have always had trouble socialising and making friends. Now i just dislike being around people at all and am self conscious of how people might react to my interests and mannerisms. I used to burn myself. I just failed some exams because of stress.

@Raven236

I'm sorry that times have been rough for you. When I was in junior high a rumor started about my own orientation which turned school into a bit of a hell for me so I know how cruel some of them can be. I also have friends now that are trans who go through that on semi-regular basis it seems and it makes me angry that the world hasn't changed fast enough to be more inclusive. I'm an ally and accept all that you are. <3

magnificentWriting47 March 26th, 2017

@Raven236 Being a lesbien doesnt define you and coming out is an incredibly courageous thing to do. Ignore the haters and be who you are!:)

I am afraid of confrontation with my husband, he has been so moody lately, I feel like I have to walk on egg shells, I guess I fear he will desert me and my kids.

I know I can do whatever I have to do, I raised my older daughter pretty much on my own , so the worst that can happen is he doesn't love me, and I already suspect that,.I am strong enough to be ok!

Yes--you're okay! Never forget that. smiley You may not have the kind of affection that you need from your partner, but you can always love yourself. ♥

reservedexcitment March 27th, 2017

@jr50

The option of leaving and loosing dead weight, is still an option. You would be loosing the stress, critism, and bad role model for your kids. Sometimes loosing is winning!

jr50 March 28th, 2017

@reservedexcitment. Yes that is true also, I have considered that, right now my children imitate him and that scarey, they are so young and impressionable, I am trying to get myself in a better State to make a sensible decision,thank you for your support

I have a meeting at work on Monday that I am dreading with my supervisor and manager, god please help me!:) I hope the fear goes away once the meeting is over and I stop having anxiety over the whole weekend! Help me to remember no matter what happens it will be ok, it will all be ok and I am ok. I have every right to stick up for myself, speak calmly and clear the air so there is no bad blood with my supervisor who is never at his desk.

I had to take a year off from work to deal with depression and anxiety. I'm now trying to get back into the work force but it's been over a month and it could be more than a month before I get anything. I'm financially struggling and I have this huge life changing goal that hinges on getting a job. I can't help but worry that my future goals are going to derail and all of my hard work this past year is going to be for nothing, that I'm going to slip right back. And I'm terrified that once I start my new career path it will take so long to get to the end that I'll be too damned old to have kids.

It's only been a month and if it takes another month then it takes another month. You've done the math, you know you can still go to school next fall even if you have one less month of income towards it. The only way your education plans won't come to fruition is if you sabatoge them. There's still 17 more months. Just breathe. No one knows what the future may hold. Who says you can't have a child while your getting your bachelors or your masters? Life will work itself out, you just have to work on each step one at a time and try not to concentrate on the what-ifs.

@ComfortKitten

I recently took a pay cut, and it's never a good thing, for anyone. But I did find out,I now qualify for a whole bunch of home reno incentives for my home! I also qualify for free art/sport classes funded by the government, and that there's assistance to help with my electricity bill. I'm so going to get these done before I get hired at a new, hire paying job. What you have that others don't have is more flexible time. When I was unemployed, I got to go to events that I would normally have to take time off work for, my working friends were jealous. Yes, it means no income and you still have bills but there's social services, food banks, parents, free food at university events and events in rich neighborhoods, so if worst comes to worse, there are still options. Just look at the good, because everything has it's downside. When you're employed, there's lots of chances to complain about your awful boss an coworkers, or being overworked.

ComfortKitten March 27th, 2017

@reservedexcitment I do have a lot of free time that is true. Unfortunately I don't drive and I live in an urban neighborhood that is far removed from a lot of things social. I've attempted to make the best of it but it is difficult to get out. I like what you mentioned about not having to complain about a boss though, once I start working I will miss this time to myself.

I met a friend online that I really like (as a friend) and we've been talking a little bit for a week now. But I suddenly had anxiety and I feel like the conversation is starting to stray away (I talk about random things as respond weird when I have anxiety) so I don't know how to make friends and I really want to keep this one.

Postitve: Normally, I freak out over nothing and it usually turns out fine in the end. This week I had similar mini panics about this but they turned out to be fine. In the past year, I've gotten better with conversing and controlling my emotions so I should be okay.

I was wondering if you guys have any tips to start another smooth-flowing conversation?

reservedexcitment March 27th, 2017

@WildMushroom

If someone doesn't want to be your friend, they would tell you, so if they didn't say anything and not ignoring you, then they want to hear from you!

I'm scared to death of men in any type of physical way coming into contact with me. Yes, I know that it's an irrational anxiety but I can't seem to help it. In the past almost every single time when I let my guard down around any man, usually I was paid back with painful regrets. I'm not sure how to overcome this anxiety, any suggestions would be appreciated?

@lynsay31 have you had truma in relation to this worry? Perhaps there is healing that needs to be done there?
