Why is my psychiatrist trying to kill me

I went to my very first meet with her today. Told her how I wasn't getting much sleep with the new medication (buspirone). she suggested that I take these sleeping pills (trazodone). I asked her about the risk with both of the and she said there isn't any. so why am I'm reading their is major risk with the combo of both. I really need to sleep but I see the risk too great to take.

@Hikingtofixme thanks for the response! I realize all of this now. my sleep have been getting better since I switched medication and using headspace/relax melodies. I'm still on the fence on it since my therapist has suggested that I give it a try. I used to have to take a sleeping pill and melatonin every night. but I went cold turkey once my anxiety/panic worsen.

@only2or3 have you read the paper within them?

@Brilliantsmile94 no what is that?

@only2or3 I mean when you buy pills or something similar there's must be a paper within them.. that explain the instructions.

@Brilliantsmile94. yeah I read them it told me not to take it with certain medications. at the time I was taking like 3 of the medications listed on the paper. which is why I made the post at that time 😂 lack of sleep and having panic attacks 24/7 got my judgement not right.

I am always cautious about medication too. I did take trazondone for sleep for a number or years and it worked. I think as far as risk profile, it is much better than some options, such as ambien. Sometimes medication can be the lesser of the evils in the sense that it is not helpful for the brain and body to not get enough sleep either...moodwise and healthwise. Everyone has their own take on medications. As far as sleeping meds though trazodone is fairly benign. However, there are some natural options, don't know if you've gone that route. Some people swear by melatonin. Didn't work for me. But I tried Inositol recently and I felt very sleepy with that. There was some mild dizziness with it too, though I understand that goes away with time. Inositol is a B vitamin. Some people also use it for general anxiety, OCD and panic attacks.

Best of luck to you in finding something that works and that you are comfortable :).

@only2or3 Hi i recommend looking at CBD. It has minimal side effects, way less than meds. Good luck my friend

@HigherSelf6 what is cbd

HigherSelf6 May 18th, 2019

@only2or3 Cbd is non psychoactive plant coming from either hemp or cannabis plants, you should research it and try to find others in your situation who resonate with you and start with low dosage and work your way up to find your ratio. I don't want to say too much so you can find your own view and perspective on it. Sending you love and good vibes your way my friend :)

@HigherSelf6 my dad was talking to me about that.

@only2or3 I Googled the combination of buspirone and trazodone, and I read that there is some risk theoretically, but I also read that this combination is sometimes prescribed and that some people find it helpful if the doses are right. So it seems to me the situation is not very clear and you would need to discuss it with your psychiatrist, or perhaps with a different psychiatrist. There are many alternative medications for sleep that you could perhaps try.

Talk to your pharmacist to get a second opinion. The best time for this is when you pick up the new prescription that you're worried about, but you can do it any time. It helps a lot if the pharmacy has both (all, if the two you mention aren't the only drugs you're taking, and include herbal supplements if you're taking those) of your prescriptions, otherwise bring in the bottles.

Pharmacists are experts on drugs and their interactions; they can usually give you better information than a specialist in some other field.
