Weekly Prompt #38: What are some things you've learned about yourself through experiencing anxiety?
Hello all and welcome back to another discussion,
A couple of weeks ago, we discussed: Add your worry to this Worry Jar! Thank you to all who participated and shared your thoughts with us. I appreciate you all. I hope all who may read it find it relatable too. If anyone hasn't shared yet, please share them here and I look forward to reading and discussing them with you.
This week's prompt: What are some things you've learned about yourself through experiencing anxiety?
Anxiety can be challenging to navigate but have you wondered if it taught you something as well? Maybe helped you become self-aware of something, helped you learn one or two things to deal with your anxiety, how you view the world and events, etc. Let us know your learning and insights here with us
I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
I finally figured out after all these years why I have anxiety when my Parents are home late and I have no way of contacting them. Its because we don't have any plans on excatly how it would "look" Luna (my sister) being my caregiver.
Like I'm assuming Luna and her dogs would move back in the house with me. Her apartment in Port Debit (code name) is an one bedroom apartment. How would we work out her having over nights elsewhere for catering? I need someone home to help me put stuff in my eyes at night or else I sleep with my eyes open-espically if the tube is getting low.
@Disneywoman I am glad you have made a valuable connection between specific circumstances and your anxiety. Recognizing triggers can bring clarity. How do you feel now that you understand this connection better?
@ASilentObserver just creates more anxiety for me. Since the fam has never yet sat down to talk about the "issues" that would need to be address if Luna was to be my caregiver. And my Dad's a bit busy at the moment with dealing with trying to get his late friend's house ready for sale
@ASilentObserver
Anxiety has thought me regardless of how strong you are or claim to be it can still have an effect on you! It can also make you doubt your every ability.
@ASilentObserver I've learned I have limits to my abilities and that bothers me but also gives me something to work with.
@reallyoverallofit It seems like recognizing your limitations has brought up some mixed feelings. On one hand, it provides a starting point for growth, yet on the other hand, it may stir up frustration. Would you share more about what feels bothersome to you?
@ASilentObserver I am older and still coming to terms with being limited in energy and physical ability. When I was younger I could pull all nighters and be good the next day. I was invincible when I was younger. Now, if I am no careful and I overdo it I can really cause myself issues with health and mental sanity. It's tough to accept this because it wasn't always like that.
@ASilentObserver
I suffer from depression and anxiety. I recently learned with help, that the root cause of both of these is PTSD from childhood. I also found out that many of the things that I am struggling with now, are similar to events in my past. However, the one thing that changed is my reaction to them. Now, when faced with a trigger event, I tend to shut down.
