I would like to share the challenges I face with being disabled.

calmMango9611 December 2nd, 2022

Hi Community:

My name is Mango, and I am one of many community leaders, within the 50+Community here at 7cups.

I would like to take this time to share my Challenges I face, everyday with my disability.

For those who do not know, I have a learning disability.

The challenges I face with that:

I have a hard time with numbers.

I can read, but I have some issues with remembering what I read, sometimes.

Tests are sometimes hard for me.

I sometimes do not understand, what people are saying to me.

I do not drive.

I am on disability retirement.

I have to have help filling out the paperwork, when it is needed, to keep my benefits coming.

I love to help others, but I am limited, because I do not drive, so I am grateful to 7cups, and for the internet.

I have had both health challenges and mental health challenges.

When I was a teen, I suffered from really bad depression, for which I got help for.

I learned coping skills, and how to communicate my feelings.

Now, as an adult, I try my best to help others.

What I would like from this community:

Empathy

Respect

Love

Online-Hugs.

Kindness

Understanding

So when I do not respond to your questions, right away, I am either busy or my disability is acting up, which does happen to me. I will get to them as soon as I can.

So please be understanding and do not get offended, if I have to ask you to repeat something more than once, while in the chatroom.

Also, please forgive my spelling mistakes, if I make them in the chatroom and in the forum, spelling can be a challenge for me.

Please be mindful, that I sometimes have to leave events early.

If I forget to come to an event please be understanding, that I did not do it on purpose, but it was my memory.

I was born with my disability.

Doctors claim, that my disability, was due to a lack of air at birth, but who really knows, the true reasons behind disabilities, and including learning disabilities.

Please do use people's first language, when speaking to me.

You can look up on google to find out, what people first language is all about, and what to say and not say to people who are different/disabled.

You can also, look up what ways will help people with disabilities, and what ways will not.

If you have any questions, please ask them below, and I will do my best to answer them.

Thanks everyone for listening and taking the time to read this.

My friend, I am so glad I met you. You are a really great person. I am so happy I know you and always looking forward to see you in chat rooms. Can I tell you a story? When I was in mental hospital I had a room mate. We called her Mango. She was around 60 years old and we became so close. She was such a nice person and friend. Anyways. You remind me of her. Thank you for all you do for 7cups. 🤗❤️

I help people with disabilities. I have a lot of respect for people who have challenges that many people do not.
