Bio
Hi all,
My name is jwsgson126 and I work in a psychology research lab in Galveston, TX. I'm studying psychology and I hope to go on to study clinical psychology at the doctoral level. My two main passions are music and neuroscience. I've been playing guitar for about a decade now, and I have taken up learning the drums, bass guitar, and saxophone. I've also been singing in choirs since I was 11.
I'm originally from New Orleans, LA where I grew up. I'm no stranger to anxiety and traumatic experiences as well, as I vividly remember growing up through Hurricane Katrina and losing my best friend's father to a zip-lining accident.
I especially feel my passions for neuroscience and music stemmed from having my grandfather suffer from a severe traumatic brain injury when I was a child and having him undergo dire personality changes, memory difficulties, and depression as a result of his developing Alzheimer's disease. Playing the guitar for him was the best way I could make him smile, and it brought him so much joy to hear my music.
I promise to be an active, thoughtful, and conscientious listener to anyone who wants to share information with me. Truthfully, I'm hoping my time with this program will give me first-hand experience into learning how to be a successive counselor.
