Sorry not in an exotic way but sympathetic

I need a hug. I need comfort. And sensibility. And strength not to avoid. Some gardeners in an apartment complex said one Spanish word under his breath, "trabajo" which I know means work. But, I feel uncomfortable. I don't know why he muttered that. Yes, yes I was dog walking there that week (for a customer) and so it was the second time the worker seen me. His other co-workers scattered around the garden didn't approach me or say anything, which felt good and is something I have to remember. Because it tells me that that muttering co-worker is not a reflection of the group of men. I never know what to do, so I pick up my speed and fast-walk to an area where I'm not seen while with the dog. I can't say all Hispaic men are like this, but my brain sends fear all around and it makes me feel very cautious. Do I say something? Did I do right by ignoring him? Why doesn't the interaction or on my side silent wall not be in ease....welp I'd like a virtual hug x)
