Question for 7 cups message
There's one thing I've noticed when chatting with a listener here in 7 cups. That is when i try to go back to the message, and backread our talks, for some reason it always only show half of the conversation and not all the way to beginning?
May I know why that happens?
@rod123 I don't know. A while ago a community manager told us we would have access to our chats for a month which was then updated for a year. This never got implemented. Instead, it's 40 messages that we can see after we click off of a chat, even a chat that's currently in progress.
It was never explained well to me. Maybe @7CupsCommunity can explain why we can't even access a full chat for 24 hours.
I personally think it's a problem for reporting, if we click off to grab a form or something we lose the ability to screenshot.
I also know many people who would like to save something they found to be meaningful to a chat to help them on their journey. It would be nice if we're not required to review it immediately.
@AffyAvo
The messages are deleted for member's privacy but as mentioned in the Privacy Policy "Private messages are stored up for up to one year. Group messages (in chatrooms, groupchat) are stored for up to 30 days".
@7CupsCommunity When we voted on it though, and the announcement was made, it was about being able to view, it doesn't seem like it was just what was stored on the server.
@rod123 Yes, the server stores the last 40 messages, even if many more messages are still on your screen. If you reload the chat for any reason, you can only see the last 40 messages that were stored on the server.
I assume the limit of 40 messages is a compromise between providing some context for the chat to continue and keeping storage costs down, but I don't know that for sure, and I would have thought storage is cheap.
Long ago, up to 75 messages (if I remember right) were stored locally on your device, but this was a privacy risk because a hacker who got hold of your device might be able to read your chats without a password, and it caused problems if you switched between devices. So now it's just the 40 messages on the server.
I agree that the storage limit can be problematic. I try to keep important information in 7 Cups' confidential My Notes facility, but I don't always remember.
Chats themselves seem to be stored for a year. In the oldest chat I can see in my list, the last message was sent on October 2 a year ago.

@RarelyCharlie Oh so, by the end of this year, all of my chats will disappear?
@rod123 As far as I know, each chat disappears a year after the last message. This means that if there are listeners you chat to at least every few months or so, those chats never disappear.
