Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Tuesday February 26th

Ayla February 26th, 2019

Hello, dear Trauma Team Family!

Happy Tuesday!

I went on a fabulous hike over the hills by the beach, and for good couple hours did nothing but listen to the waves, Sketch in my old sketchbook and take photos of the gorgeous scenery. It was a good day. The weather here is finally getting back to normal and outdoor activities are starting to become possible again! Yay!

What do you enjoy doing the most if you like spending time outdoors?

If you're not an outdoors person, how do you usually relax at home?

I hope everyone is having a good day, and if you're not, please know that we are right here with you and you can come and talk about whatever. Always.

Is there anything you would like to share with us? What is on your mind? How are you doing?

I can't wait to hear from you all, I am sending safe hugs to everyone who wants one and remember - We believe in you.

- Love,

Ayla.

I am not a huge fan of outdoors but I do appreciate quite scenic places when it's possible. I enjoy sitting out in the patio bundled up in my robe. I drink my coffee and ready a book as my "outdoor" time.

How cold is where you are? I am here in southern CA and we just had a big rain storm after the fire. Such a mess but everyone's homes were safe. So glad the storm stopped.

Hi @Jackie , thank you for checking in! I appreciate scenic places, too, they make me so calm. Drinking coffee, while reading and sitting in the patio sounds so great! I usually do that, too, when it isn't too windy.

It is currently between 10 and 15 degrees C ( I believe that is 50 - 60 F ) but still quite windy.

I am really glad to hear that everyone's homes were safe after the storm. We had a massive storm here a couple weeks ago with roads closed, due to fallen trees, but thankfully no one was injured.

I hope you're doing well and I wish you a great rest of the week! <3

Hi Ayla

It's great to think about getting outdoors again.

For my outdoor time, I enjoy hiking in the woods and sitting by the water - river's edge, a bay, lake - and feel nature surround me; I also enjoy gardening: herbs, flowers, vegetables. For now though, I have winter in full force with several inches above ice below it! That's ok, since I have many indoor projects to finish, and if spring arrives too soon, I will be eager to be outdoors and forget all about my indoor projects that are needing to be completed (cleaning up woodwork/painting inside my house)! So, I'm content with winter yet.

I can't get my brain to concentrate on anything deep enough for the sitting work that I need to do, along with the brain fog. So I'm moving around the house a lot, hopping from one thing to another (and I do not have A.D.D. but do have severe insomnia).

@WoodViolet Hey!

It sounds like we enjoy similar outdoors activities! I love snow, we only got snow this year once and it would never cover the ground except for the mountain tops.

What does it help you concentrate? Listening to piano music helps me stay focused, though some people find music distracting.

Insomnia is tough. It makes it even harder to concentrate. Anything you found that helps you sleep?

@Ayla

Yes music sometimes helps for concentration...depending upon the mood or day! And sometimes different genre of music helps me at different times. Some days, I just have to let it go, which is hard because I am an 'Achiever' and feel like I have to accomplish something productive every day!

Hi Ayla.

Im glad you were able to get out and enjoy some time outdoors. Its still pretty cold here, but I am hoping to go cross country skiing with some friends tomorrow so that should be fine. When we have warmer weather, I love to do anything that involves being in the water. My family does a lot of water skiing but I also love just being at the beach or sticking my feet in the water. Kayaking is another thing I enjoy, as long as the pain in my elbows hasnt flared up.

I also like your positive, happy little GIF. Hes very cute.

Im not really sure how Im doing today. Overall, Im definitely better than I was even a couple months ago. Im grateful for that because things have been hard for a long time and theyre finally to a point where there are challenges but it is bearable. Its been years since life has felt bearable. Its been a really long day. Not bad, just busy. So Im kind of exhausted right now. Probably too tired to process much, even of what happened today.

Dealing with some anger lately about what happened to me in the past. frustration over what I perceive to be inequities in life. Ive been in a lot of pain for a long time, coping by forcing myself not to be aware of how I felt. Things are getting better now, but you realize how hard things have been for so long. Anger at struggling and being in pain so much. When it wasnt even my fault in the first place. At least I finally know that.

Skiing sounds like so much fun! I love winter sports! I love doing things that involve being in the water, too. Thankfully, I live near the coast and there are many, many beaches around, as well as lakes and mountains.

I'm so glad to hear that you're better. I hear you, things have been rough for quite a while. It's okay to be angry. I know it isn't a nice emotion to have but all of your feelings are important and valid. It's okay to be frustrated, too. Sometimes it's easy to blame ourselves for how we feel or put our emotions in a "mental box" and ignore them until it builds up and gets worse over time. I just want to congratulate you on acknowledging that it really wasn't your fault. No one deserves to get hurt. I hope the pain fades, I hope it becomes even more bearable. I'm so happy that it's getting better for you.

You deserve to feel free, happy, loved...And it's okay to feel.

There's an exercise I really like when feelings and emotions get too much - You pick a thought, the first thing that comes to your mind and is currently upsetting you/making you angry, picture yourself putting that thought into a balloon and watching it float away. I know it sounds silly but little by little and with some practice, it could make you feel more relaxed when things get overwhelming. What do you think about it?

And again, please remember that we're here for you when you need us.

Safe hugs if needed.

@Ayla

Hugs yes please.

I dont feel so good tonight. Feel like I dont want to be here anymore. Wont act on it but pain is bad tonight. More memories? It hurts. I just want some peace.
