Trauma Support Community Check-In Wed May 19- Thurs May 20, 2021
Good morning everyone!
The topic for today's check-in is familial bonding. For survivors of trauma inducing experiences this can be incredibly difficult and painful. Many of us have lost family here, eventually we lose touch with all of them. This is a most difficult truth, but that does not mean we cannot connect with them by honoring all of those we have lost. We honor them when we show that we can still cling to life and truly enjoy all it has to offer. Seeing the light hidden in the darkness is sometimes the only thing that keeps us going as a whole.
For so long I've looked at our species as a whole trying to break it down in my head just what drives our core motivations. Where does this desire to feed on others tragedy come from. People eat the news up and relish in the animosity it creates while telling you to take your medicine at the same time. I see so many people struggling in the darkness, clinging to whatever olive branch they can find for stability. It is in burying these grudges and dropping these stones that we truly excel in life. This isn't an easy path and I would be lying if I said it was. The path of least resistance is the path with no change just accepting the world as it is. The path in the face of adversity my friends, is the one with the most positive change.
I have personally put my entire focus on family as of late. Where I once saw character flaws I am now seeing that children never fully mature and are simply kids in older bodies. Kids make mistakes, lots of them. The ability to grow from those mistakes together and ensure we aren't handing future generations a raw deal is a responsibility we all carry together. We do this by strengthening what family we do have left. I do it by trying to pull all of my family together despite their differences. Each person forges their own destiny based on their decisions. Sometimes sharing how we truly feel in a way that is not leading to conflict bears more fruitful results. We never know until we try.
I ask of you the following three questions:
1. How are you feeling today truly?
2. Who do you go to for support when all seems lost?
3. Why do you go to them? Cherish all who sacrifice to support you.
As always, may today be better than yesterday, in hopes of a better and brighter tomorrow!

1. How are you feeling today truly? Truly? Depressed. It's been hanging on for awhile now. Drinking too much and harming. Used to only do that when anxiety was bad but lately - Idk - I guess maybe because pain is the only thing I want to feel or the only thing I can feel right now
2. Who do you go to for support when all seems lost? There's not alot of people I can. No family, no friends. Used to come here more but Idk - everyone has their own things they're dealing with. Easier to just keep to yourself ya know? There is the therapist we have
3. Why do you go to them? He's paid for lol

@RedHawk6547 Thank you for sitting with me ❤ I'm having a really hard time with emotions. There's so many sometimes and I dont know what to do with them - they confuse me - because Idk if they're right or if I'm allowed to feel certain ones - so I push them down and try to ignore them. It's all just so mixed up in my head all the time

2. Who do you go to for support when all seems lost? either my guidance counselor at school or my therapist.
3. Why do you go to them? Because I need to talk to someone which I usually don't do.
Hi. I hope it's ok to answer a day late. I'm fairly good today. I just got back from a short trip away, and I feel reset. I've been doing lots of reflecting and understanding things better.
Hands-down, I go to my partner. They're really my only person. In my experience it's hard to find people who really care about someone besides themselves. Like maybe people care to a degree, enough to say they care or think about you, but not enough to slightly inconvenience themselves. Usually I'm the person others go to for support. I always think that it's going to be appreciated, and maybe it is but somehow it never gets reciprocated. I don't really have family anymore. I'm really thankful for my partner. They've been through a lot in their life too, and I'm in awe of they stay so positive and have a balanced outlook on things. I hope to be more like them in many ways.

I feel good today. Just busy. I go to friends for support when lost. I go to them for external support - I don't want to funnel myself into a closed loop.
