Re-claiming our Power
Ok so idk how this works or who makes the threads. I may be breaking some rule that will result in me being expelled from the 7 cups kingdom forever. If I'm messing up, please forgive me. I beseech you. But since I didn't see a check-in today, I thought I could create one??? If I'm wrong in this, please please please don't hate me or expel me!
I have no research to back this, but I feel trauma steals our power. It keeps us captive through flashbacks, panic attacks, that stupid voice in our heads lying to us, SH or destructive behaviors, isolation, fear,etc.
So, I am realizing the healing journey is facilitated by reclaiming that power.
Maybe, like me, that's learning that I can say no. That I can make a decision on my own. That I can push boundaries meant to trap me in abuse, manipulation, and assault. For you, maybe that's signing up for therapy. Facing the place where it happened. Confiding in a friend. Giving yourself time to heal.
We strip the trauma of it's control when we re-claim our power. So, here are my questions.
1) What is one thing you can do this week to re-claim your power?
2) What ways has trauma stolen your control? What ways do you want to regain control?
3) fun question: what is something you've always wanted to do, but feared you wouldn't be able to?
4) Go to song to cheer you up or energize you?
@FigureskatingEquestrian. Excellent suggestions, thank you. Interesting that you so worried about being banished, I feel I have to watch what I say so I don't violate some unknown or new rule.
Great ideas for distraction. Might take a while to get good at them but don't give up
@FigureskatingEquestrian
You are so awesome for doing this!!!
1) What is one thing you can do this week to re-claim your power?
I can dedicate more effort and insight into helping others. Everyday I try a little harder than the day before.
2) What ways has trauma stolen your control? What ways do you want to regain control?
I had everything I built stripped away in a moment, but I can rebuild a better life and rise from the ashes of that defeat.
3) fun question: what is something you've always wanted to do, but feared you wouldn't be able to?
Be a leader who walks with those they lead.
4) Go to song to cheer you up or energize you?

I really love this check in my friend.
@Understandingempath
Listening to your song suggestion. Thanks!
And thanks for being so encouraging always. You are an amazing helper/leader. I think you are succeeding so well at your goals. Thank you for being you!
I'm so sorry it cost you everything. But I love how you have rebuilt your life so beautifully.
@FigureskatingEquestrian Hey - How are you?
I think you did great :)
You're right it steals our power. It steals everything
Something to reclaim my power - Idk - I need to watch my stress - keep grounded
It's stolen everything. I guess - idk. I try to stay social - it's just here that I talk to people. But Idk - I guess anxiety keeps me quiet alot. I keep quiet to keep other people comfortable I guess. How about maybe getting control over a decision - lol. That seems to be an issue right now
A train trip throught the New England states - during the fall
Oh music - yeah music is a good thing :) Right now it's FFPD - Inside out
Great check in :) you're hired lol!
@mytwistedsoul
Aww thank you.
I know it takes everything. But like a phoenix from the ashes, we emerge broken/scarred but stronger than ever.
I find decisions extremely terrifying and sometimes triggering as well. That's an amazing. Maybe you can make one small, empowering decision every day.
And yes. You should. New England in the fall is magical! Just go for it!
I'm sorry about the social isolation. You are always so encouraging and active here. It blesses everyone with your posts. You always have so much valuable stuff to say. Thank you for sharing your voice with us
Great post! Thank you♡
1) What is one thing you can do this week to re-claim your power?
Keep telling myself my feelings are okay. It's okay to be sad, it's okay to be scared.
2) What ways has trauma stolen your control? What ways do you want to regain control?
The trauma has stolen my feelings from me and also a childhood. I shut off, I dissociated to cope and I left a 13-year old behind to go on with life. I kept my feelings supressed because they were just to much to handle.
I want to be "reunited" with my inner child. She's still young and vulnerable. She needs to know I'm here for her. EMDR-therapy is helping me getting there.
3) fun question: what is something you've always wanted to do, but feared you wouldn't be able to?
Hard, but fun, question. Travel around the world working here and there, just living life day by day.
4) Go to song to cheer you up or energize you?

@Kickan75
Thank you. Comforting hugs, if you want them.
And thank you thank thank you for sharing. I'm not the only one. I lost all emotions (just now able to start to feel again, and it's like a floodgate.) I'm not sure what to do with then all. Yes. I hate that we disassociate and lose so much. I still go to my safe disassociation place. I still engage in the coping skills that saved me then. But I'm trying too learn new healthier ones.
So, keep embracing the feelings! Because with the difficult comes beautiful ones too! Love that beautiful 13 year old. I do feel like we get a bit stuck at the age of our trauma. So love her. Let yourself be free! Play. Laugh with abandon.
what is EmDR?
And yes! Travel the world. Be free! Such an awesome goal.
and I love this song! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you ❤
Sometimes it comforting just to know you are not alone experiencing things. I have a great psycologist who explains things and helps me to understand. Why the anxiety comes creeping and how to connect with my feelings. Anxiety is bodysignals that makes the true feelings unavailable. It's feelings in disguise.
"Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
During EMDR therapy sessions, you relive traumatic or triggering experiences in brief doses while the therapist directs your eye movements.
EMDR is thought to be effective because recalling distressing events is often less emotionally upsetting when your attention is diverted. This allows you to be exposed to the memories or thoughts without having a strong psychological response.
Over time, this technique is believed to lessen the impact that the memories or thoughts have on you."
I think the EMDR has been very effective for me. Both the panic attacks and the Flashbacks are fewer. When they come they are less frightening. I couldn't shower without having Flashbacks but after EMDR I haven't experienced them as bad. It has also helped me have in finding my feelings again.
I am so thankful I found someone who actually listened to me and offered to help. ❤
