@soulsings.   For practical problems I sometimes study different approaches and solutions if time permits. For mental problems I sometimes do the same. I also do breathing meditations to calm down. If very anxious I do a short chair yoga video as well. I say affirmations throughout my day . I keep a gratitude journal to balance out what I consider the negative parts of my life with some good things that I have.

@soulsings

I learned a lot from DIY Youtube videos how to deal with practical problems, but I think the best "Skill" is "How can I make it work".

Breathing exercises, affirmations and talking to myself like a good coach meaning acknowledging when in pain but also focusing on the good in life helps me most.

  • Which of your skills comes in handy dealing with practical problems?

That would depend on what the practical problem is specifically but generally speaking I value all the skills I’ve learned and have that I use all of them even the ones that aren’t needed for the situation I’m in. I don’t like to leave valuable things out and believe any skill can be used in any situation even if they’re not thought of as “needed.” This is just for non mental problems most of the time though.

  • What skills do you turn to when you face mental health challenges?

Generally speaking it’s the same answer as the answer above to the practical problems question. But more specifically it’s typically mental skills since we’re dealing with mental health challenges here. Like for one example if I’m stressed I’ll think about something happy whether it’s something that actually happened or I’m just imagining it.

For practical problems, research skills and asking others for help.

For mental health challenges, I have a hard time remembering tools I have in the first place. My memory becomes inaccessible in periods of high stress and when symptoms flare. In the past, I've relied on a DBT cheat sheet to remind myself of things I can do, and I used to be able to access an app which reminded me of coping skills and rewarded me for using them. Sadly, that app is no longer supported. I'll see what I can do to keep reminders of skills up to prompt me when I'm overwhelmed.

I also turn to 7Cups to share what I'm going through, and crisis services when extra support is needed for my mental health.

@Zeraphim yes momory is rough when I am stressed so that is why I try to create a routine that happens automatically

@soulsings I think the approach of not giving up works in both cases. The answers and solutions sometimes hide very well but they are there waiting to be found<3

  • Which of your skills comes in handy dealing with practical problems?

    As counter as it is, the bigger the problem is, the calmer I become -  more focused to addressing immediate needs for immediate survival (firstly), followed by secondary needs (reassurance, de-escalating, etc.)

  • What skills do you turn to when you face mental health challenges?

   I turn to the resources offered by my employer (albeit, short term, immediate coverage)., as other skills, albeit 'helpful', no longer are helpful to thrive - maybe survive - but no longer helpful to thrive.

My two cents.
