How does this work

So I’m new to online therapy. I’m just not sure how this whole app works. The limited and very sporadic response time from the therapist I’m paying for monthly confuses me. Isn’t therapy supposed to be for an hour? I get a few moments with this person then poof! gone. I just need help understanding how this whole thing is supposed to work I suppose

I'm new here and I'm not a therapist, but I wonder if you're accidentally chatting to a listener instead? I believe they are volunteers and it's possible that they might be chatting to more than one person at a time (maybe) if demand is high.

@GoldenNest2727 It's true that listeners are volunteers, and it's also true that we can chat to more than one person at a time.

But demand is always low compared to the number of listeners available. For example, right now as I type this there are 9 chat requests in the queue and 74 listeners online with Chat Now buttons.

We are strongly encouraged to give our full attention to one member in a chat. If a listener does not seem be giving their full attention, it would be good reason to report the listener so they can be helped to do better.

@RarelyCharlie

That's very kind of you guys! I just figured the user just clicked on the wrong button and selected "listener" rather than "therapist". I have a small phone screen though (I usually rely on my laptop). Thanks for being a listener!

@ravenclaw2k18 How it works is described on the main Online Therapy page:

"Messaging with your therapist is only $150/month, no matter how many messages you send. No overages & no hidden fees."

"Message as often as you’d like with your therapist in your private chat room. Therapists reply once or twice a day, Monday through Friday."

You are paying to be able to send unlimited messages to a therapist, and to receive one or two replies each weekday. There is no designated hour, because you and your therapist have access to your messages at all times.

Hi there!

Welcome to 7 Cups! Thank you for your question. As RarelyCharlie mentioned the responses are 1-2 times per day Monday - Friday and the real benefits of online therapy at 7 Cups is that you can get the support when you need it. You do not have to wait for a timeslot in the week to discuss what is on your mind with your therapist. No waiting times, no waiting rooms, and support whenever you need it as your therapist will respond with a thoughtful response 1-2 times a day on weekdays.

We are also available at support@7cups.com if you have any other questions.

Feeling better starts with a single message. Check out my profile and reviews.

I realize this is a very old thread (not sure why it surfaces for me or how I got it to come up) but I was just wondering this yesterday... How do you know how much you'd have to pay? Is there a ratio or something with the in office/hourly rate that's listed on some of the profiles? And if you pick one and didn't like them, do you get your money back, or is it at least prorated and credited to a new therapist? Do you at least get to have a full session initially to see if you even want them to be your therapist?

Basically, how does STARTING online therapy work???
