Welcome to the Therapist Sub-community August 2021

soulsings May 5th, 2021

Welcome and thank you for joining the 7cups Online Therapy Sub Community!

Some people have questions about what therapy is like. Here is a post explaining more about therapy by LisaMeighanMBPsS , clinical director of therapy at 7cups:

Therapy is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviours, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and anything that is on your mind. It can be a great place to have a safe space to talk about the things that have been bothering you. Beginning therapy can be a big step toward being the healthiest version of yourself and living the best life that you can, no matter what challenges you're experiencing. It might feel daunting at first as even positive change can be really tough! Through therapy, you can change self-destructive behaviors and habits, resolve uncomfortable feelings and improve your relationships.

Your relationship with your therapist will be a close and trusting connection but sometimes it can take time to develop or you feel like it might not be a great fit between you and your therapist, it's important you find the right therapeutic fit. smiley Please let us know if you have any more questions!

I have bpd, OCD, ADHD, treatment resistant depression, anxiety so bad I'm an actual hermit, addiction problems .. But I cant get therapy because i can't afford it and it's not fair for people like me. I want tye help. I need the help.. Butbjo where gives therapy for thw extra $40 a month I have to my name. It should be based on what someone can afford and how much they need therapy. Im never going to get better until that happens and it won't.

Hi everyone!! I am excited and a bit anxious to be here. I have been part of an online community such as this many years ago and it helped me a great deal. I have been in and out of therapy for nearly 30 years... each time has been both extremely helpful and overwhelmingly difficult for me. I am nearly 46 years old and much of my life has been filled with trauma... I tell people that life has been trying to end my existence literally since the day I was born. I was a preemie, born breach, and rushed to a hospital more capable of my care directly after birth. My first SA encounter was at 18 months old, and there have been two other SA abusers in my life of varying degrees and time periods encompassing several years of my life span. At 12 years of age, I had to testify in open court against the worst of my abusers... after which he stalked me for several years until I finally quit looking over my shoulder. I have experienced various forms of abuse throughout my life. I have several dxes, including major depression (with and without suicidal tendencies), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to name a few. Surprisingly, I have only been hospitalized twice for psychiatric issues (once as a teenager and once as an adult)... that's not to say that I hadn't needed to be hospitalized more, which were extremely stressful times for my therapeutic teams and myself to say the least. Needless to say, I have major trust and boundary issues among other things. There are also times when I suffer from selective mutism, which as you may imagine can be terribly frustrating at best. I am a mother of two amazing (I may be a bit biased) young adult children, and a soon to be ex-wife to a man I married nearly 24 years ago. I have hit rock bottom more times than I can count, but somehow I always seem to find my footing again regardless of how long it takes. I have struggled with self-harm (SI) at many times in my life, but am currently in remission (if there is such a thing). I am a college graduate with two separate degrees in Criminal Justice, neither of which I use in my current employment. I like to write, paint, create, play games, read, watch television, etc... My mother is even teaching me how to quilt. By far though, my favorite activity is spending time with my children and their friends (I am everyone's mother... my children not only brought home stray animals while growing up, but also stray children as well). I have very few friends... maintaining relationships is tedious for me, so I tend to lose great people in my life because I allow them to drift away. My family is extremely important to me, and I have been known to be chastised because I tend to center my world around them. Anyway, enough rambling from me for now... thank you all for taking the time to read me insanely long and over-stated introduction. I wish you all the best along your healing journey!!

I am a 32 year old woman and I have more issues than I would of ever imagined for anyone to have to cope with in life. I have a lot of past trauma and current coping issues I was diagnosed many years ago with ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and then later also diagnosed with PTSD, and social anxiety along with Anger Disorder and borderline personality disorder and insomnia. I also have addiction issues and I really don’t even understand why I am even alive, like what my purpose is here after so much pain and struggle in life to just simply be considered a really messed up person with the mindset I have . I have survived many battles and road blocks and never really have been able to just enjoy life. Everyday is a battle to get up go to work and pretend life is fun and interesting for me. All the challenges I have already faced and nothing to show for them. I want to see myself smile no make good memories I want to love myself again so other can love me too. I have become a non social person stuck in a endless circle of bad memories mad terrible nightmares that will not allow me to ever forget everything life has gave me so far. I have done counseling and medications some and I also have tried changes things in my life and people no matter what I do try nothing makes me feel better or have any more hope than before. I am going to try this for the first time and see if It will help me any any way possible. I am stuck and I need more help than I thought. Please help guide me in the right directions on here thank you

@BeautifulCreation999 I hear your struggles and desire to get on a solid footing. That is very admirable. As a peer support community there is not a simple solution to your request. Maybe a therapist would be better qualified to answer your question. Here are some resources that may start you in the direction you want to go.
