Welcome to the Therapist Sub-community August 2021

soulsings May 5th, 2021

Welcome and thank you for joining the 7cups Online Therapy Sub Community!

Some people have questions about what therapy is like. Here is a post explaining more about therapy by LisaMeighanMBPsS , clinical director of therapy at 7cups:

Therapy is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviours, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and anything that is on your mind. It can be a great place to have a safe space to talk about the things that have been bothering you. Beginning therapy can be a big step toward being the healthiest version of yourself and living the best life that you can, no matter what challenges you're experiencing. It might feel daunting at first as even positive change can be really tough! Through therapy, you can change self-destructive behaviors and habits, resolve uncomfortable feelings and improve your relationships.

Your relationship with your therapist will be a close and trusting connection but sometimes it can take time to develop or you feel like it might not be a great fit between you and your therapist, it's important you find the right therapeutic fit. smiley Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Hi! I’m Whitney.

I’m married and have a 3-year-old. I am going to school studying English Education and minoring in Japanese, with a goal to teach English in Japan.

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder last year, after being diagnosed with PTSD, and have struggled with the diagnosis. I need to find people to go on this healing journey with. I struggle, and things are bad on some days, but I want to do the best I can to feel good in the life God has given me.

Therapy overall has shown me that I am much more than what I think I am, I do have values and I have the ability to fight for I want most all in life. Yet I still have some doubts when the counselor/therapist comes off as aggressive overall.

@lavenderPapaya362 I hear you. Therapy can be very helpful but it is important to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with. At 7cups there are many therapists and if you try one you can change therapists if you find it necessary to locate a therapist you feel comfortable with.

@blueCucumber6814 glad you expressed interes

With 7 Cups online therapy you get personal message responses 1-2 times per day Monday - Friday and the real benefits of online therapy at 7 Cups is that you can get the support when you need it. You do not have to wait for a time slot in the week to discuss what is on your mind with your therapist. No waiting times, no waiting rooms, and support whenever you need it as your therapist will respond with a thoughtful response 1-2 times a day on weekdays.

We are also available at support@7cups.com if you have any other questions.

Hi,

I just got out of a long relationship and have been struggling with depression and anxiety since. I feel guilty because I was selfish and immature in the relationship. I'm trying to heal and hope I can find the help and support on here to achieve that.

Hello, im new here.

Thank you for allowing me here. My name is Kim and im 21, female.

I lost my mother in march 2021 to MRSA, which caused her to go into septic shock. It was believed to be caused by her diabetes but the concensus wasnt found out.

She was put on life support in the ICU for several days until her heart kept stopping. I had to fly to the hospital that was out of state to sign the paperwork and take her off of life support. All the while not knowing she was there until the last 2 days of her being hospitalized. The meds she was on to keep the MRSA at bay was cutting circulation to her hands and feet. And her heart stopping so often dropped her survival rate to about 5-10%.

I was told i had to make that decision the same day i flew there and got to see her in the hospital. I was informed too late, to even get any time with her. Her boyfriend at the time, lied to the hospital about any other family or next of kin. He told them he was her husband, which delayed the hospital in notifying me, my brother, and my grandparents and aunts.

I never would have known if i didnt have a gut feeling to call my mother that day. He told me after i wanted to talk to her. I had to be the one to call my entire family and tell them she was dying and wouldnt make it.

What hurts more is that she died out of state, and my family is very poor. So the cost to transport her body was too much, and we ended up cremating her rather than having a funeral and burial. Which i feel would have been more special. And on top of it, i had to fight with my grandmother for 3 months for just a few spoonfuls of her ashes. Even after being told i was getting some since i dont live in the family home. Now the holidays are approaching, and i am feeling lost and alone even with family near. I just need someone to help me understand what to do. I have mental illnesses that interfere with my mind and make it difficult to go through this without guidance. My mother was my best friend and my rock. My shoulder to cry on, now i would give anything to hear her just say I love you one more time. Thank you for listening

@TormentedSoul74

My heart goes out to you for your loss and all the pains caused to you. This should have never happened the way it did, I am so so sorry. I can understand that you would have rather get her body back home for the funeral and honor her life in the comfort of your family, hugs (if accepted). It’s important now to take time for grief and being particularly kind to yourself. You suffered a lot and in many ways in the last time and your wounds need healing. We are here for you ❤️. Joining a support group or talking to a listener in a 1:1 chat can be helpful.

Thank you for your kind words. I have been through a lot and this is only one of the many things im dealing with. It is the main source of my pain currently. I used to self harm and its been even harder not to relapse after losing my mom.

@TormentedSoul74

Grief cause lots of painful emotions and it takes a lot of strength to not to fall into the trap of sh again. I hope you will connect to a listener to talk if needed, you don't need to go through this alone. This is a link to our self-harm recovery community https://www.7cups.com/home/selfharm/ and here you find a number of coping skills https://www.7cups.com/forum/7CupsOnlineTherapy_157/DevelopingHealthyCopingSkills_2253/.
