CLOSED to new questions AMA with Cynthia Stocker on 7cups Online Therapy works with Depression and Anxiety
Happy New Year! My name is soulsings, the ambassador liaison with 7cups therapy program. I am thrilled to introduce a new AMA therapy thread that can help you better understand how 7cups online therapy can help with Anxiety and Depression issues that you experience in your life. Cynthia Stocker, a licensed therapist that provides online therapy services for 7 Cups, can explain how 7cups online therapy can help you cope with different challenges in your life. See her bio at the end of this post!
This format gives you 3 days to ask your question and give Cynthia 3 days to answer your questions you may have about finding therapy options for depression and anxiety. Cynthia is also available to sign up for therapy if you are feeling like you might benefit from online therapy. So you can start asking questions anytime after this post goes up and Cynthia will start answering them on Tuesday.
So if you have your questions ready, feel free to post them now. Cynthia will answer them as quickly as she can. Remember this is a 3 day thread, so get your questions in early. Cynthia will answer questions in the order received from Tuesday to Thursday so the sooner you post your question, the sooner you will get a reply.
Sometimes people ask the same or similar questions, so please read through this thread pages before submitting your questions so you can benefit from all the answers presented here and we can limit duplicate questions from happening.
Thanks for participating in this thread. I look forward to your questions and Cynthia's answers.
bio for Cynthia: I have worked in the field for about 30 years and I have experience with anxiety, PTSD, depression, OCD, relationship issues, communication issues, parenting problems, work/life issues, assertive issues, ADHD, learning disabilities and much more.
I live in the beautiful state of Idaho where my husband and I enjoy backcountry horse trips, white water rafting, hiking scuba diving and international travel. Some fun facts about me; I am a licensed falconer, I learned to swim at 30 and now I am PADI certified, and I went skydiving for the first time at the age of 54!
In addition to working with 7 Cups clients, I maintain a private practice in a tiny isolated rural town, where I completed domestic violence assessments for the court as well as attending to my face to face clients. I offer traditional therapy as well as Equine and Canine therapy. These are wonderful mechanisms for change!

I'll post again if I may. Thank you Cynthia for responding to my question. You suggested 7cups therapy but it was my understanding that you cannot do it it anonymously, that 7cups admin need your identity. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that. Also, yuo mentioned "tailoring" treatment to meet my needs. I've chatted with many listeners who have been in therapy and the treatment and strategies seems to be all the same ones I find on my own and have tried before. Can you maybe mention one (not for me specifically obviously as you don't even know me) but one strategy you've used in your practice that cannot be found with a Google search?
@FrozenGhost That is my understanding too—you cannot do 7 Cups therapy anonymously.
Tailored treatment plans are typically based on what is technically termed a formulation or case conceptualization. These are standard techniques and you can find them with a Google search. However the resulting treatment plan is unique to each client, and Google cannot tell you what yours might be.
My impression is that many therapists don't do formulation at all, or they don't take it very seriously, or they are not very good at it. If you can find a therapist who is good at it, then I would suggest that therapy will not just consist of all the standard advice, and it is much more likely to be effective.
Of course, I understand that being unable to do therapy at all because you would have to be anonymous is a big problem. I suppose you would have to use a false identity and pay with cash or a cryptocurrency. I think some of the therapists I know here in the UK might accept that, but I'm not completely sure, and I suppose in some places it might not even be allowed.

Hi. A couple years ago I let anxiety completely run my life and it played a roll in turning my relationship into a very unhealthy one. My boyfriend did his part and verbally, mentally, and physically abused me. We broke up after a year of it and I went to therapy. A month later we got back together and step by step the dynamic changed entirely. It's been almost 2 years now and everyday I feel like I see things clearer and clearer. Sometimes I have to process stuff that I guess I didn't take the time to deal with when I was anxious all the time.
I assumed finding a long term listener would be nice, but do you have any advice on navigating this?
@tophat22
Good evening and thank you for reaching out. you are so brave for sharing. I hope I am understanding what you are asking. I think I am hearing you say that after being in an abusive relationship and leaving it, you got back together after getting help, but you are still trying to process the trauma. It sounds like you are still becoming triggered and have some memories that you may not have been aware of?
It is normal when we are in a traumatic situation to not only be unable to process what happened fully but for many memories, triggers and events to that we didnt even remember to come up later. Processing these emotions is super important and this can happen in several ways. Depending on where you live and your access to services you can try any number of things; equine therapy, EMDR, art therapy, join a recovery group and traditional talk therapy. You can also be assessed for medication if you feel your anxiety is too high. I hope this helps!

Thank you for replying so quick. That's exactly what I meant. Sometimes a little thing can jog my memory and put me right back in a past moment. I'll try out your suggestions though! Thank you very much again
@tophat22 I agree with your comment about a long term listener. As you have been to therapy and now you see things clearer and clearer every day, you could share the stuff you are processing with a listener.
To find a suitable listener, a good way might be to use the Browse Listeners page and message any experienced listener who has been active recently and whose profile you like the look of. You might have to try a few before you find one you really like.
There is a Long Term Support filter on that page, but it might not be very useful because the formal Long Term Support program no longer operates.
You are welcome to chat to me, if you like. Click on my profile picture, have a look at my profile, and message me.
