Grant me the serenity to accept the things I CAN NOT CHANGE!!

purplesunny98 February 14th

My whole life I've tried to control everything. People, places, things, but especially people. I felt that I had no control of myself, so if I controlled other people, I'd be safe. I had the ego to believe that I knew better than everyone when in reality, I can not control anyone's actions.

I try to achieve the serenity to accept the things I can not change. When I move from expectence to acceptance, things generally go well.

What was a time you accepted a lack of control and things worked out for you?

@purplesunny98 It sounds like controlling others has been a way you have tried to feel safe and in control when you were feeling uncertain or scared inside. I can understand why this strategy might have temporarily helped you feel more secure, but it also seems like it has had negative consequences, especially in terms of your relationships. How are you feeling as you consider accepting more?

Ultimately a lot more serenity. Sometimes it makes me more anxious because there's nothing I can do about it and that's scary! But a lot of times it's "welp. What's going to happen is going to happen and I have no way of influencing or changing the outcome. So I will gently prepare for the worst and hope for the best"

One time, I let go when I was overwhelmed at a concert.  Too close and extremely loud .I used self preservation and patience I let  all the aspects out of my control happen until the situation ended.
