Group Projects Can Be So Frustrating!

As a final-year MBA student, group projects are nothing new to me, but this one is really testing my patience. We were assigned a secondary research topic, and I spent a lot of time working on the research report, making sure to cover all the necessary points. However, one of my team members—who didn’t contribute much initially—decided to call my entire report “wrong.”

To her credit, she has rewritten a significant portion of the report, but now she expects me and our other teammate to step in and finalize it. This is especially frustrating because I’ve already put in so much effort, and to top it off, I have a job interview tomorrow. Between preparing for the interview and dealing with this project, I feel completely drained.

Sometimes it feels like no matter how much effort you put in, group dynamics can still make things unnecessarily complicated. I know this is part of the learning experience, but it can be exhausting. Just needed to get this off my chest.

I think any of us that have worked on a group project understands your issue and can relate to your situation.

@Silverwillows8128 I hate group projects. They have never been pleasant. At least I studied most of my degree when there were public health restrictions keeping people from working together.

Am I correct in saying that she already knows that she and/or the project is testing your patience, you’ve already put in so much effort into this project and that you have a job interview tomorrow that you must prepare for or you won’t pass it and get hired for the job???

If she doesn’t know any of that or only knows some of it, maybe it’s best she knows all of it for the purpose of understanding you and with that understanding take it easier or be kinder to you??? Your thoughts on this??

While I didn’t dislike all the group projects or group members I’ve ever had, I did not like them all either and regarding the ones I disliked and tested my patience are the ones where I understand you the most bc I’ve been there myself more than once. But the best thing happened: Once I told all the members the same thing I’m suggesting you tell yours especially the one testing your patience with the “I already put in so much effort. If you don’t wanna finalize it, I understand bc you rewrote most of it so how about another member or members that aren’t you and I finalize it??” That’s what I told some of my members that I disliked that tested my patience throughout my academic years. And it worked! That’s why I’m suggesting you try that too in hopes that it works out for you too bc after all you’ve endured, especially with a job interview on the horizon that you need to prepare for, you at the very least deserve to have this suggestion work for you along with passing your job interview.

Best of luck to you with both ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hey. I have finished my job interview, but unfortunately, I didn't clear it—though that's a different story. Currently, there are three of us who have rewritten the entire report, with my teammates doing most of the work along with the PowerPoint presentation. We have that presentation scheduled for tomorrow, and we might also have another one on Saturday that was originally set for Sunday. Right now, I'm in a meeting working on our PPT slides as I write this. Additionally, I have a presentation on Monday that my team and I worked on for about an hour today. There's also an individual presentation next Thursday, but I'm not too worried about that one since I can focus on it after Monday's presentation. Sorry for the lengthy message!

Thank you so much! I still have three more presentations to go—one tomorrow (Sunday), another on Monday, and the last one on Thursday. It’s really starting to take a toll on me.

When I had multiple projects like you do now I’d work on them one at a time and once I finished one I’d work on the next one and then the last one afterwards and I’d be done with all of them before I knew it!!
