Next Week - New Reviews Features!

Hi All -

I am excited to make this announcement! Did you know that the 7 Cups review feature has not changed in over 4 years? That is a long time! Today, I am excited to announce that we are going to tweak the review tool functionality! The goal is to make it easier for members to leave more helpful reviews for listeners and to ensure the reviews generated are fairly delivered.

Here are some of the changes we are thinking of giving a try -

Timing of reviews:

For every L-M connection, the member can only leave one review per 48-hour time frame. The goal here is to reduce duplicate reviews and ensure that members know that each review matters. If you are going to leave your listener a review, you need to make it count.

If something goes wrong in the chat after a review is submitted, the member can always use the block feature or wait 48 hours to leave another review.

Star ratings & text reviews:

We were able to look at star rating data on the whole and determine that star ratings are misused by members. At present they are not the best tool for determining the quality of the listener. We need to tighten them up to better reflect each listener's skills. We did some research on how to best collect star ratings and what other sites do. And we thought about how to incorporate that information into 7 Cups star reviews.

We will remove the 4-star rating categories (helpfulness, response time, empathy & professionalism). Instead, it will be one-star rating measure out of 5. Members will choose one of the above:

1 Star - This was not a helpful chat

2 Stars - Could have gone better

3 Stars - It went okay.

4 Stars - I liked it, helpful chat

5 Stars - Loved it! Awesome chat!

The Review box will have these directions:

Help others select a good listener by leaving a review. If you liked the chat, say what was good about it.

If you thought the listener could improve, please mention your feedback here.

Depending on which star they choose, a different pop-up text will appear in the text box.

If rating <=3 stars, show this modal on submission-

We are sorry your experience was not great. Click here to connect with a verified listener.

If rating >= 4 stars, show this tip-

Thanks for your feedback! We are glad you are getting the help you are looking for!

--

Please share any feedback on the ideas mentioned above. As always we want to try something new and see the impact on the site and in the community. Your feedback and ideas are welcome!

Since the website has been updated 7 cups has deleted a large chunk of a chat log I have with a fellow mbr which is quite disturbing to find. WHY??? I find it a bit frustrating when I login to be directed to the Los Angeles County support system?? I have lived in Utah for over 3 yrs? The website now has me back at step 1???? I don't know who did the upgrade but 7Cups needs them to correct some issues please! I give them no stars as I personally don't appreciate what has been done to my account!

@bgdave

I also have seen some of my chats disappear. One day I couldn't even connect into any of them at all - I could get the emails people had messaged me, but I wasn't able to see it at all.

Also wasn't the site supposed to have updated to save the last 100 messages versus 10? I still only have the last 10 or so saved per conversation and it deletes any older ones.

All of this not to mention Noni hasn't worked for me in forever.

@Dawn04 There was actually an update since then, where it is now supposed to be for a year. That's not working for me either, the number of messages saved is small and the rest actually disappear during the chat.

While I hate to hear it's happening to you, kind of glad I am not the only one. I really think instead of doing more and more updates, they should be working on fixing all the bugs from previous updates. Like I haven't gotten anyone to be able to tell me why it both took me a good month or two after everyone else to get Noni and then she disappeared a couple weeks later on me.

I agree. Quality remains generally disappointing.

Some applications sacrifice quality for agility, but we don't seem to get agility either.

I love this! I feel the categories are a little arbitrary, and that having it all assimilated will really work.

I do think having an explanation of what each star rating means for the member would be really helpful- it would encourage realistic reviewing!

@Laura My concern is that even with these categories the members sometimes come here with an expectation of us solving their problems magically for them. So the reviews can sometimes be judgemental with nice or not helpful etc without any explanation. I would suggest something that does require clarification from them furthermore so that listeners have a fair trial too.

Very interesting and I like that banner that will show up for members when they choose a star. I'm not sure how much this will work but I'm open to it. Also in my opinion, waiting for 48 hours to give another review is a lot, I'd prefer it stay as it is or be able to leave feedback 2-3 times within 24 hours.

I think, only one thing need to be change is that, members can review only when they exchange 30+ messages with listeners. It should be compulsory for all members to leave a review. Otherwise, they can't continue their chat with that particular listener. Once, they reviewed their listener, only and only that time, members can continue having conversation with that listener. That will not just help all listeners to understand about their knowledge and capabilites, but also it can help with self awareness about being a listener and i think, thats the most important fact to keep in my mind when you are accepting a new chats.
But Again, that same member can't review that listener, till they exchange 30+ messages. Im giving this idea, because as per my knowledge and experience here on 7cups, one thing that came in my mind which bothers me that, some members doesn't even bother to leave a review, even you know that you are so helpful for them on time to time, in every way possible. So, that let me think, that i was really helpful to that member in any manner or not, and that throws me in different direction, which confuses me about my own knowledge, and about being helpful, not just for that particular member but other members and listeners as well.

So, that's why I think this idea would be helpful for everyone.

@ViewScenic09

I think 30 messages is too few messages to really know how a chat is going sometimes and to have enough info to assess it.

I mean some chats start of slow, by the time you getpast explaining the situation often 30 messages have come and gonebut you havent really gotten to the heart of the chat yet.

I also think if some members/guests dont want to leave a review then that should be respected.

What do you mean by I havent really gotten to the heart of the chat ? What are you implying here?

Ah my friend its my slang I guess thats caused confusion, I wasnt referring to you. I was saying in general often after even 30 messages people,listener and member often havent yet gotten to the root of the issue, depending on the length of messages I guess.

But I promise I wasnt implying anything about you ❤

I am concerned that this update might effect listeners ability to know what they need to work on.

Because you dont allow listeners view negative reviews how will they really know where they are going wrong?

Someone could give 3 stars solely because that listener is slow at typing/responding then give a written review just stating "they were ok" whereas the current sytem they have to assess each category individually which no matter what they write you can see what the listener possibly needs to improve on.

Reviews often arent very wordy or very long and I fear this update will deprive the listener of valuable info in order to try and improve.

I also think waiting 48hrs before another review is allowed is wrong, you prompt members to leave a review after a few messages and if they regret their initial review either in a positive or negative way then they should be able to change it.

Something like being able to change the review until the chat has ended could help with that issue there.

@Laura

I like the current (old) star rating. Could you tell how the old star rating was abused and how the new star rating would be better or immune from the same kind of abuses?
